Simple, Social Media has ruined everything. People do things for themselves, for the likes, the views, the popularity aspect. Not just car culture but almost everything in life. People will spend $3k for a concert ticket, not because they want to see the concert but simply just to show everyone they were there.

19 right now. I remember I used to look at listings of cars I would love as a first car throughout middle school and highschool when I get a first job. First job rolls around; almost all of those affordable sports cars are now like triple or more what they used to be for even worst conditions. Talk about bad timing :')

It's to capitalize on new drivers which kinda sucks knowing it's the older folks and their kids gatekeeping. Maybe that's why new cars with pop tunes get more attention because it's pre made and not built...

I honestly I am disappointed in the car community, I was always excited to go to car meets and car shows but now approaching driving age I would rather just go out for a meetup with my friends. I live in europe, thank god there are no takeovers but I do really hate rigged car show winners and the pure toxicity in the car community. I have found a lot of good friends because of the car community, but you cant do that anymore, everyone is a clout chaser, blowing their cars up for attention, creating chaos and making rules even more strict.

Car culture is still very alive at the right venue. Go to a morning Cars n Coffee, and you will have a blast! Go to an organized car show, and you will have a blast. Avoid night meets at all costs! This is where you can get yourself into serious trouble.

What sucks the most about the car scene is I don't want my 17, 15, and 14 year okds thinking that's the normal. Gone are the days where we would meet in the dunking donuts parking lot, grab a donut & drink and just chill. But that was 2002 Era for me. Nothing like that at all. I've been to a few meets with the oldest and his Del Sol but it's been just what you state in the video.

Yep, it’s a huge bummer. There’s still a couple really good “meets” in my area but they’re more like organized events rather than just hanging with your buddies in a parking lot. Miss those days.

The problem is, everybody is so hooked on social media, clout chasing and don't know how to socialize. Bro, me and my homies back in the day, we had awesome meets, always meeting new people, people came from out of state to hang out. We had responsible races and shit, and the relationships, we had, the stuff the happened back then, it was like A soap opera. A good one though, and don't get me wrong, the car scene has always had issues here and there but now? It's like every part of being an auto enthusiast sucks these days. From the fucked up car market, the fucked up people, and the criminal stupidity.. this is why me and my guys are doing totally different shit now. We do cruises, touge, etc. We have small, quiet meets. We actually have no beef with the law either. It's good. But you gotta associate with the right kinda people I guess. And it's easier said than done at the point, with all the idiots out there these days.

you completely missed arguably the biggest problem, car builds are no longer inspired by motorsport, i went to a meet the other day and thought "where are the cool cars?" it's like people don't realize their basic lame ass commuter car isnt remotely cool, and it only gets worse when you cover it in anime stickers and rainbow LEDs.

It sucks. when I got out of high school, 20k USD would get you an R32 GTR. Not a clean one, and maybe not one worth buying, but that was obtainable, given the economy and my job prospects. I met a guy recently that just got his, and he paid 60 grand for a slightly modified example. It was clean as hell, but so many people are getting priced out of the market because dealers and private sellers know that some tiktoker will buy their car 10-30 thousand dollars over sticker just so they can make shitty 60 second videos on it.

I appreciate much of what you said and the fact that you're willing to say it. I used to live in Montana and stopped going to meets because people like me who showed up without a nice car were completely ignored and treated like we shouldn't be there. Fast forward and now I daily drive an Aston Martin and take it to meets here in Wisconsin. I always make it a point to approach people who bring totally common, boring, unmodded cars and talk to them about it because I remember what it was like to be the subject of ridicule just because I rolled up to a meet in a 2003 Honda Accord. People here, thankfully, are overall much better to meet up with. We still have the kids looking for attention, but we are lucky to have a good community of young adults to retired ladies and gents who love cars and want to chat about cars.

Also as a Hellcat owner, I would never, and I mean never bring my car to a night meet. That is just asking for trouble. Again, great video bro!

Exactly, you know what makes a stock special? You don't need to add performance or any that affects performance. You can have useful mods that give you better lighting, cleaning the car to brand new all over, or updating it's maintenance to more easier accessible places. I rather add shit than do performance.

If you seek takeovers you will find them. If you seek cars & coffee or meetups and cruises you will find those as well. I do recognize that living in SoCal gives me many options. But i know i can easily avoid takeovers and rowdy events. It's nowhere near as dire as some make it out to be.

I especially agree with the hate and negativity point you made because of a recent experience I had, I’ll put my own personal example here: I recently got to buy one of my dream cars, a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle 300 Deluxe (it has the 250 turbo thrift engine), and I was really excited about it so I thought of entering a group of classic cars to get some tips on basic cares and stuff, and also to get inspiration from other people’s builds and lastly, to share my passion over classic cars and Chevelles. And what did I got on my first post? I got bashed by lots of self-centered elitist assholes calling me a moron for buying a 4 door Chevelle, they were insulting both me and the car saying that it was junk and I should just throw it away, and all of that just for posting how I was excited about finally getting my dream car. Honestly I just felt disappointed about the amount of hate everybody had and just left the group, but I’m still keeping this car and putting lots of effort and love to restore it into its finest shape. But I can assure lots of people in my place would feel bad about it and would get discouraged by all the negative comments, that is why car culture right now absolutely sucks.

It’s a paradoxical issue. The bad apples caused the government to crack down on car meets and hightened lot security. Leading to stupid kids moving the car meets to intersections, causing the full circle of the government cracking down even further. Those bad apples are the reason so and sadly you can’t just ask everybody to behave at the meets so the “good ol days” are never coming back

I have noticed takeovers are really a problem in super populated areas. I used to live in Maryland near DC. I now live in Iowa and it's completely different. The car scene in small towns in America are still cool. You can go on a cruise to a another small town or drag race on some country backroad with two or three other people. The people out in the country are generally nicer and will help you with your builds and maintaining your car. Oh and there aren't many clout chasers.

My point is not that people are modding their cars, it’s that it seems like if you don’t have bags, wheels, and a wrap, you’re shunned in the community.
