I look at these fires and find it unfortunate that a neighbor or the home owner didn't use a garden hose to slow the progression of the fire. It may not stop the fire, but cooling the garage door and slowing the spread could save parts of the house, or prevent fire entry into occupied spaces.
@RandymanB6 ай бұрын
I agree. You never see anyone at least attempting to slow the extension with a garden hose. Back with I was a LEO I went to several fires and was able to slow the extension with a garden hose before fire arrived.

Garden hoses do nothing. Obviously you've never been close to a fire like this. It really hot.

@@jimmccabe801 Well, expect the part about being trained as a FF/Paramedic you would be right....... but your not..... while the average flow of 12gpm isn't the same as an 1 3/4, it is wet stuff on red stuff and will slow progression. and if you're concerned about the heat, use the car as a temp heat shield..... now go back to trolling....

Vehicles catching on fire!!! U may have seen one in real life, certainly quite often on the news. Welcome to the world of gasoline fuel injection. From the first model of the VW Ty3 in 1968 to now these systems rely on rubber fuel lines to connect the fuel tank to the injector. The fuel will go through various rubber lines before it is burned in the combustion chamber. Low pressure rubber lines: return lines from the engine to the tank. The fuel is also a coolant; about four times the fuel needed is circulated in the fuel loop. This helps to prevent vapor lock. High Pressure side which is causing these car fires: from the high pressure pump to the injectors the fuel is carried in special high pressure hoses: steel and rubber. If rubber it should be marked with "fuel injection" or color coding to prevent the wrong hose being installed. In carbureted cars the fuel pressure is 3psi to 6psi. In the first F/I VW the pressure was about 30 psi. Eventually almost all manufacturers adopted this Bosch Fuel Injection. Rubber F/I lines have a shelf life of about 6 or 7 years. Then the gasoline starts to leak out, hit the hot exhaust, catch a spark from the ignition, alternator, starter, or relay. BOOM!!! You have a fire. If the job is done correctly with the injector hose also, this can be $300 to $600 job. Without the customer feeling any different is drivability. Hard to sell this job so most don't even try. They wait till the customer smells a fuel drip. Or the vehicle just burns up... hopefully starting slowly give the passengers time to safety exit. Sadly, not always the case. Hence with more using EFI more fires on the road or in the two car garage or the parking deck right beside your new Mercedes.

The other is personal accountability. 911 is who you call in an emergency. However maintaining proper condition of an automobile is paramount to safe travel & safe parking. Not maintaining a vehicle so it’s safe in both instances leads to these issues. Also having a fire extinguisher in your house. Knowing how it’s used & using it might have prevented this tragedy? We had a rolling fire in our oven. I was reheating pizza & went to take a shower. My wife called me down to let me know there was a fire in the oven. She called 911 & I used our kitchen 10 pound fire extinguisher to put the fire out. Instead of having a burned kitchen. We had a burned stove. The fire department was impressed we had the fire out without any extension.

Hard to believe in this day and age, that ANY Fire Fighter will get close to a car fire without being 'On Air'. Carcinogenic is the only way to describe to outgassing from this fire. Watching these guys wearing, but not using, their Air Packs demonstrates a complete failure by the Leadership of this Fire Department to provide for the Health & Safety of their Teams....
