Hi Simon Just save some work if you can just open the plastic cap and take off the barrel easily without open the whole door panel. And you just need a key code from the barrel to do the key cut, and sometimes you can find it written down on manual book or metal key tag on key rings

Hi Simon I have an 07 bmw with plastic key....I was told by locksmith only bmw can supply new key. I purchased for $90 on ebay a blank unprogrammed key. Also on ebay I purchased an AUTEL MaxIIM KM100E key programmer for $700. I successfully programmed the bmw key myself. The bmw dealer quoted me $700 to replace the key and 6 weeks wait for key to come from Germany. Please note the Autel key programmer can not do all keys lost, you need a working factory key to program a spare key. It will however start a car (keyless) up to latest models without a key but loses the immo information when turned off. Hoping this info may help you in your business.
