I want to say thank you first off! I have been without CarPlay for about a week now and had to navigate in San Francisco with my phone on my lap and try not to get in an accident. After listening to several “techs” on KZbin you are the first person that said “hold the volume button “ to reset. Holy cow and it worked!!! My wired CarPlay kept disconnecting, but it wasn’t a worn cable. Turns out, any lightning cable I inserted into my phone felt a little wobbly and loose, and it was due to dust and gunk in the port that built up over time and years of repeated inserting of the lightning cable. A minute or so with the pointy end of a dental floss pick cleared out the gunk. Works like new!

@@frustyak This! It’s always my first recommendation when someone says they have wired CarPlay connection issues. Most will say they charge fine wired and they don’t think it’s the issue. It requires a much more solid connection for CarPlay compared to charging and it seems cleaning out the port is this issue almost every time. I’ve yet to have a cable fail in my vehicle just because it doesn’t see much wear always being left plugged into my car and I bought a few different cables years ago until I discovered the dirty port issue.

I carrier my iPhone in my pants pocket where cable port collects dust, lint and dirt over time filling up the cable port. The port will get so full your cable will not connect properly masking you think it's abad cable. Switching cables may make it work momentarily but it's the dirt in the port that needs to be cleaned out. There's a special tool you can use and most refer to it as the reset pin tool, you can us that with little eyeglass cleaners and dig the dirt out out of the cable port.

Thanks for this video. I was able to change several settings in my Car Play. The offload maps information was especially helpful. I loose phone signals the last 48 miles to my camp. I was able to put that whole area on a map that is actually on my phone. Keep posting those helpful videos.

Quick question … bought 2024 Subaru wilderness and has wireless car play .. the mic will randomly stop working when on phone . If I switch phone to speaker phone then back to car play works again then will randomly stop again.. have not seen solution or fix .. seems like 2024 cars not just Subaru are having same issue .. have you heard of this and or anyone else found a fix

@@storytimewithkirk6659 I have a 2024 Subaru Outback and I was running into the same issue when I first bought it. It was 100% a Subaru software issue. Subaru recently came out with a new software update that fixed that issue. Go to your dealership and they should be able to help.

Great video! Love the ability to create shortcuts. I feel a little differently than you do though. I like the music to start playing again when I get back in the car. Wondering if you noticed something even worse. Since iOS 18 when using Spotify or Apple Music CarPlay will start the song again BUT the screen defaults to the home screen (icons) vs going back to the screen you had open like Spotify or Apple Music. I called Apple and they said “that’s how it works”. Hasn’t worked this way until 18. Does anyone else find this frustrating, ridiculous, a bug? Can’t be on purpose.

Guys, the reason it happens is because you let the itinerary on in Carplay. Click "end route" on Carplay for your phone to close the app

I have a bug where if I adjust the volume while Siri is giving map directions, it might mute audio until I do long-press reset. It's critical to adjust the volume nob gently, and not abrupt. It's been that way through several iOS. So it's a bug in the dash.

i have a question: i have an old peugeot 206 with carplay installed. It worked fine when i just connectetd my phone to carplay. In the last week something went wrong. Connecting to the car is fine, spotify etc plays fine. The problem lies with the navigation. I can hear the audio cues for directions just fine but it wont show me the map on the screen. Neither can i see the little interface at the left side of the screen at 1:50. Is there something i clicked or done to make this happen. I cant figure out what i did or how to fix it.

Before iOS 18 my 2020 traverse always read my texts and then said “would you like to reply?” Now after the upgrade it won’t do that. I know it’s the upgrade because I had someone with the same phone try and they hadn’t went to 18. It worked just like before.

I have a problem with CarPlay 18 = if I’m listening to a podcast or audiobook the car speakers work fine until I pick up my phone to look at anything (like a different podcast) and then the speaker shifts to only the front driver side speaker. I can’t figure out how to get the audio to come out through all the speakers again. Plus CarPlay grays out my car settings so I can’t adjust the speakers there. I have wireless CarPlay.

Great video, the Apple watch in CarPlay was really bothering me. Also, I didn't understand the offload maps. I live around mountains and driving through them, my maps and cell coverage are all offline. I will give this a try to see how it works. Here is an issue I found that no one has talked about. While listening to the Podcast app, I don't get any text notifications! Phone calls come through, but no text pop ups. have missed so many important notifications and even reached out to Apple. They never admit failure and typically don't fix issues brought forward, but I thought I would share this with the community.

It was tough to understand because he was using the wrong term. It's not "Offload Maps" it's "Offline Maps". Offline maps should work great in your situation as you can download the maps you need onto your phone, so when you lose signal, and the streaming maps, it will revert to the Offline Maps you previously downloaded, assuming you're in the same area that the downloaded maps cover. I think he combined Offline with Download causing him to come up with Offload. Offload sounds like you're getting rid of maps though, which is the opposite of what you're trying to accomplish.

But, unless I am missing something, there is a significant oversight in CarPlay (which I recently notified Apple of, which means they will not take action on this for several years, if ever) which forces me to ONLY operate CarPlay when I need to use NAVIGATION (maps). Whenever you are operating CarPlay with your iPhone, it is ALWAYS using navigation, no matter whether you are actively using navigation or not, and no matter whether a maps app is open on your phone, or not. THIS means that your cellular DATA plan is being consumed full-time supporting navigation that is always operating in the background. THIS has created a significant IMPACT to my cell phone DATA plan. AND, I will not turn off Cellular use of Data, then having to turn it back on (on the phone) when I want to use navigation. CarPlay should have a very visible, quickly accessed, on-screen setting stating Navigation On / Navigation Off. CarPlay should never be using your phone's cellular DATA without you telling it to. And you shouldn't have to download off-line map files to your phone. By the way, when using off-line map apps, you will NOT receive active traffic information, which really is needed. 😐

Problem: Two iPhones in vehicle. Driver & Passenger. Driver (connected to CarPlay) parks and leaves vehicle (with iPhone), but vehicle is running. CarPlay automatically connects Passenger iPhone to vehicle head unit (whether passenger wants this or not).

My CarPlay plays a song or 2 on Apple Music and then switches from shuffle to alphabetical order. Hit shuffle again, switches back to alphabetical. 22 Chevy Silverado. Any idea how to fix this?

Two things I did for CarPlay. Deleted Apple Maps and Music. I live rural and Maps would continuously route me on farm or fire roads. Would have to use Google to get me where I needed to go. I never use and was sick of the auto launch. Happy with my Amazon music

I have noticed that after upgrading to ios 18 if I try to record a video on phone when connected to CarPlay the video has no audio. Prior to ios 18 I would have phone mounted on dash and could record a video on front camera as I drove and it would record my voice as well. Now when I try it only records video and no sound. Have you or anyone else had this problem and know a fix or is it my head unit? I also have issues with talk to text randomly working. I could say "Siri, text wife" and she would activate asking what I wanted to say and upon the tone after I speak and it seems to no longer pick up my voice. I have tried each of these problems hard wired and wirelessly connected to CarPlay and both have these issues.

They need to add a “pause” navigation feature. Quite often I only need directions as I approach the last few kms of the route. I don’t need Siri telling me how to drive through my surrounding suburbs. It would be great to add a navigation route and then have directions paused until I need them.

Now fix the autoplay and volume issue. Sometimes after turning off car, then later start up the autoplay kicks in and its blaring loud. Id also love if it Apple would remember the artist/album flow so you can quickly swipe back or hit back button on head unit.

It has rightfully enraged many people who have taken videos on trips only to find later that none of them have sent. HELP - Old lady trying to figure this out. I’ve had my 2023 Toyota Cross XLE for 18 mths. Since I’m not very techie, at the dealership they were trying to get my car play set up. I just handed him my iPhone 11 and said here, if you don’t mind. For some reason my screen only has a few of my apps, so I’m trying to get it to mirror my IOS screen. I’m not sure if it’s wired or wireless, I think it’s wireless, but I just turn on Cellular data and can use the few apps that are up, like the songs from my iPhone download came over, contact list came over, I have messages but it only displays a new message coming in, and my “settings” app is basic so nothing was mirrored over from that. I do have the IOS Map up and only have to turn Bluetooth on when using it to get correct directions. So if anyone can give me simple instructions on how to mirror all my apps, I’d be forever grateful! Bless you

A way I found to fix the issue of with glitchy CarPlay wirelessly is to turn WiFi on an off it’ll disconnect and reconnect to CarPlay. That’s my car though and your mileage may vary *chuckle*
