Car Not Starting After Sitting for Weeks Months or Years

In this video, I will tell you why your car is not starting after sitting for weeks, months or even years. For example, the car battery can go dead or the gas just needs to be drained and replaced. The electric fuel pump can also fail due to corrosion and the engine bay wires can get chewed up by rodents such as mice.

That was solid video. I have a BMW with a new battery that cranks but wont start after sitting for the winter. Battery is new, all codes are erased unfortunately. Any idea what it might be?

mine has been sitting 3 years. haven't changed the gas yet. it will crank and crank but not start. i hit under the tank with a hammer and it started and ran very good nice and smooth. when i went to start it again it failed to do so. what can it be?

Try changing the gas first

@@Top5AutoRepairs I did what you advised and drained the old gas and put 5 gallons of fresh new ga.. it took like two or three tries before it started as opposed to like 20 with the old gas. But this is the issue currently with my 1995 Lexus sc400. It looks like it has wires running to the spark plugs not coil packs. So I drained the old gas and put 5 gallons of fresh new gas. My car is having a hard time starting. So once it started it ran perfectly fine for 30 minutes or so at normal operating temp. When i revved the engine at idle it would have a small hiccup or cough at the higher rpms, a very faint backfire. Shortly after, the temp gauge started to rise slightly and the car just shut off. Hard to start again, would crank but not start. do you know what it could be now?

Thank you for this valuable information. Do I need my mechanic open the engine and lubricate it manually before driving it it? I heard that if a car sits too long - in my case three years - the engine oil drains to the bottom leaving the engine without any lubrication, which could cause major damage if driven. I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks in Advance 🙏

i bought a new car from dodge its a 2023 durango its been sitting for months on the lot i was supposed to have that car 4 days ago but they said it MAY be ready in 2 days because they need to replace the fuse box and both of the batteries are dead...

Had my 350z sitting for 4 months , it' started but if I try tapping on the gas sounds like it wants to shut off but stays on ...any ideas what I should do ?

sounds like a fuel issue tho i would check the fuel pump or your injectors or could be a bad spark plug causing your timing to be off idk tho but thats what i would check first i just sell car parts
