Car Overview 5 years after | 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage ES Hatchback

If you absolutely must have a brand-new car, are seduced by the prospect of a decade-long warranty, and for some reason just don’t want a Hyundai, this might be worth a look.
Cons
Even though the Mirage is inexpensive, it’s not a good value. If you can afford any other new car - or even a good certified used car - you should strongly consider it over this one.

I bought a 2024 Mirage. Before you ask why I didn't get a used Corolla, or something better for $30,000.. It's because I want this. It gets epic MPG, and is easy to work on, plus it's new. I put 4,500 miles on it in the first 60 days. It's everything I want.

I paid $9,299 for a brand new 2017 MIrage ES manual 5 years ago. Window sticker was $14,220. After closing costs, it was $10,153.70 OTD. If I had qualified for the three rebates, I would have paid $7,799 for a brand new car that is very reliable & economical to drive. I might add my Mirage was delivered to my home from a dealership 4 hours away for that OTD price. Looking at used cars at the time seemed silly. I don't plan on having a car payment for 12-15 years thanks to my Mirage, and it's extending the life of my older Forester at the same time, too. A Mirage may not be right for everyone, but I appreciate affordable, reliable, economical small cars. I wouldn't pay big money for a Mirage, but a highly discounted one is a great value in my mind! If you take care of it, these cars will go 300,000-400,000 miles with ease. Google the 414,000 mile Mirage. Knock the Mirage if you must, but I really like mine!

You got a great deal Car prices are insane right now. I just paid $10,000 for a used 2017 with 66,000 miles.

Yeah I remember seeing commercials at the time $10,000 / 100,000 mile warranty. Now here I am currently looking to buy and the sticker price is $16,695 and to top it off they axed the manual trans. But buying a used 2019 ES manual with low miles is still $13,500 give or take. I think I will wait closer to the end of the year for a deal.

Great video! I just got a 2015 mirage for 7k and 42k miles.........now I'm at 61k miles and the only major repairs were the brakes and CVT fluid change ( previous owners didn't do much maintenance). I love the car for city driving and parking! Easy to fill up for about $30.

It's a solid car! I highly suggest getting it. This one just didn't work for my family after 5 yeara. We have 2 kiddos and now need massive trunk space and car seats

96k miles? That Mirage had easily another 100k miles in it. It takes 5 mins to wrap the exposed wires with electrical tape and 10 mins to put in a fresh serpentine belt.

yea, easily could go 200k given it's mostly highway miles. just keep them oils (transmission as well) changed and it's good for a long while.

I purchase a 2017 model gt for my kids to learn on , and at the moment it has 35,000 km weirdly we put it up for sale and a tester removed the vvt solenoid and put a rust one back in , but what a great first car

@@rickbar123i paid mine 20k as well for the sedan top trim level. i don’t feel bad about it knowing that the Corolla LE goes for near $30k OTD which is NOT WORTH doing so….maybe Corolla Hybrid but that more $$ anyways. No best choices available unfortunately BUT it DOES BEAT buying used cars with unknown history and issue which is also not worth touching.

They are around $20K in the Dallas area. The dealers have them priced so that for a little more, you can buy a Mitsubishi SUV.

Great overview. You probably would have been better off spending that same 14k and buying a brand new 2017 Chevy Spark LS. I'm planning on buying a 2023 Toyota Corolla LE which has 169 HP, more than double the 78 HP in that Mirage! Put 2 Mirages together and it will still be slower than my Corolla lol.
