You can get pretty good deals on most NEW cars today! And some brands like Stellantis, you can get outrageously good deals (some even better than pre-pandemic). It is only a couple of brands like TOYOTA and HONDA that are still trying to screw over the customer! 🙄 ……but mark my words, they cannot do this forever. They can get away with this (FOR NOW) because of their “quality and reliability” and many people will only buy these brands. But eventually some of these people will realize that it is still much cheaper to buy another brand with a 10-year/100K bumper to bumper extended warranty, to address the “reliability” question.

When I worked for a machine shop a few years ago, the owner and I were talking about quality of goods produced over the years. I'm 51, I've seen the quality go down over the decades, things just aren't built to last like before. Now cars have so much technology in them that it's no wonder they're breaking down more than before. Too many computer components that need replacing probably more than their old counterparts needed replacing.

Due to high prices and interest rates mainly. Most people are maxed out in credit. Toninclude myself. So loans are hardervto get or at even higher than market prices. What are you talking about? Prices have come down, a lot actually, and they will come down even more! We are in a recession, and even the Fed is starting to admit it, which is why they are lowering rates aggressively all of a sudden. Things have been coming to a head and they are going to get bad in the next year. They have no idea what they are talking about with used car pricing, there is a ton of inventory sitting on dealer lots. If new prices fall, used will fall as well, otherwise why buy used when you can get new for only slightly more? These guys are looking at current numbers, they don't factor in what is coming.

Right now new cars are slightly more attractive than used cars because some manufacturers are offering lower interest rates. With used cars, there is no support from the manufacture so you’re basically at the market rate. When inventory builds up at other brands and prices “crash”, Toyota and Honda will EVENTUALLY be forced lower prices too! Maybe not “crash”, but they will have to offer SIGNIFICANT discounts! Why? Because, as they say, everyone has a price they will fall for! If the price differential between a comparable Honda/Toyota and another brand is great enough, SOME people will bite, and a “chain reaction” will result! If you are getting a comparable VW Jetta for $6K less (real world price) than a Corolla, then there will be a good number of people that will switch, thereby building up Toyota’s inventory, forcing them, in turn, to offer discounts on the Corolla! Simple logic!

We keep hearing about prices crashing but not seeing it. The timeline keeps moving out. The prices keep getting higher, and they keep turning out crap that doesn't last. New vehicles are a total waste of money, especially with the quality and how fast they depreciate.

Getting crazy lowball offers from dealers on used vehicles. They are trying to make way too much profit on them. I'll just clean them up and list them myself. Their greed will hurt them when we can sell them ourselves.

I have been in the market for a new Honda Accord or Toyota Camry I decided to wait. My local town dealers have a $3000-$5000 markup over MSRP. I also considered a two or three year old model but prices are too high. It’s not normal for used cars to appreciate in value. I will continue to wait.

Zach and Ray: I think you're both spot-on. But why does Toyota continue to be the exception? Yes, sales are high and inventory is low. But why is that? You would think other manufacturers would want to be competitive by making a vehicle with the Toyota-like ingredients that make them desirable and reliable. I don't own a Toyota, so I can't speak to their reliability. But they appear to be in great demand. Thank guys!

I went to a Toyota dealer yesterday and they were chomping at the bit to get me. I never felt like I has so much power buying a car. I was looking at a Tacoma Trailhunter. The truck was listed at $79k (nuts) without really saying much they dropped it to msrp $68500. Been on lot for 10 days. Walked.

Toyota has earned that legendary reputation over decades. While many manufacturers have gotten better with their reliability, they can't touch Toyota's reputation because it was built over such a long time with successive CEOs continuing along that same path (The Toyota Way). It's not something you can easily copy, you have to put in the work, the time, and resources. It means changing the whole culture of a company, which is not easy, especially after leadership changes.

Prices would have to come down at least 20% just to be fair. Prices are mega inflated with the quality going down as well.. Screw the greedy dealerships . Manufacturers should sell direct to the public with a no BS price. The price is what everybody pays. No haggling and no BS. They would sell way more vehicles that way.

course its not like dealers didnt have a hand in this debacle. they added market adjustment (could be as much as the vehicles MSRP) and they add on so much others costs (nitrogen in tires, extended warranty, etc, etc) and off these were mandatory wouldnt sell the vehicle without them. so dealers have a big hand in how sales turn out now!

Everyday i get emails from Honda trying to entice me to buy with steadily increasing incentives towards my deposit, but only if i buy with their finance, i am not that daft.! I can wait until the makers and dealers start to close, then i might buy one. Until then, the only way is down on MSRP and out of the door prices.
