I find the Sonata to be the car for people who said "Hm, I need a new car. Ew, I hate Nissans! Wow, that Hhu-ndai is a good deal. Honda makes pretty good cars!"

The engine was eating oil at 70k miles. Hyundai said that it was not part of the recall, but after going back and forth with Hyundai, the dealer replaced the engine as Goodwill, and I had to pay $1k. No more engine leak. It is at 105k miles now.

Honestly I would take this over a Camry and accord. The Camry are nice cars but the interiors are out dated. The accords were unreliable when I had them. I had a 2009 it had some sort of battery problem and after we replaced the battery it still had the same problem. Then I got a 2012 accord and it had the same exact problem. I'll never buy a Honda again. I had a 2003 sonata and it was probably the best car I ever owned.

Seems like a great car. Right now, my favourite cars are the BMW 3 series, 1997 and 2016 Holden Commodore and the current model Camry and Aurion. My cousin owns a 2004 Santa Fe. The horn in that is actually horrible. Anyway, love the car. I'm not sure if I like the front of the car though.

Hyundai has come a loooong way since the Excel (Mitsubitchy Precis). I'm not all that impressed with their "fluidic" body designs, I especially hate the Veloster's look... But their initial build quality, interior design, reliability, and base model features have increased dramatically. For instance, a friend of mine had an early-00s Sonata that, by 2008, had two rotted-out control arms... And I know someone else that had an '02 Accent that he was driving to the junkyard (2014) when the engine cradle rotted through and dropped the motor and tranny on the street, 1/4 mile from the junkyard, and they had to shove it with their Trailblazer the rest of the way there! However, one of my exes bought a new '05 Accent GT, and I actually liked driving it. Not something I would own, but if I had it as a rental or borrowed one from a friend, I would be OK with it. I'm glad I got to drive it before he wrecked it (driving stoned and drunk)... And wrecked it again (driving stoned, drunk, and on Ecstasy)... And wrecked it yet again (not his fault). The third time did it in completely (control arms rotted out & snapped, he lost control).

Yeah, I know that in the past Hyundai made cheapo cars so I would have never considered one, however, I still wouldn't get one! It may be nice to lease one but with what I've heard on the longevity of these cars I wouldn't want to own one.

The meep sound when you lock the doors is not the same sound you get from blowing the horn when its running. Hyundai, and other makers, use a quieter sound when locking. Frankly I like it that way.
@LetsDriveSomewhere
@LetsDriveSomewhere 7 жыл бұрын
Doug N I love the electronic beeping sounds Hondas and Toyotas make but I hate it when they beep the horn when locking. I occasionally like it when they have a quiet, lower tone horn beep.
@dougn2350
@dougn2350 7 жыл бұрын
Bad Drivers of Albuquerque ...I did not know that Honda/Toyota used an electronic tone instead of a horn beep. What a great idea. But if you only press the lock button once on any car you won't get a toot. just a flash if the parking lights. And normally that's enough.

For owning a 2013 Sonata Limited, I HATE the 2015-2016 sonata's. (I take the dealerships courtesy rentals if the dealer has my car for a long period of time) I thought 15-16's were nice at first but real SE base models customers buy do not have the touch screen, they are extremely small no-touch screen (like 5 inches wide and 5 inches down). Im pretty sure they put the touch screen in few models for rentals so people like the car. The car is WAY to light in the winter, slides around too much on brand new tires. The instrument cluster is too busy and you cant turn any of it off. I don's know, I guess I just like my Limited model and going to a base model doesn't do it for me. Haha. Good review overall. :-)

Damn the Peugeot 208 has a better horn, but it sounds a lot weirder, almost not like a horn. I have the turn signals set to three, because if you want to cancel it goes on 3 times in the other direction -.-

ryukdluffy That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I don’t personally know of Hyundai reliability but I’ve heard they’re one of the most reliable - on par with Toyota and Honda. If you like what you saw in this video then I’d go for it!

I do, it looks very nice. I looked at a 2014 Sonata at 14k price with 40k miles. Some damage reported with one recall open i think. Might have been fixed didn't ask the dealer. The 2016 is being sold by Hertz rental and that also has one reported accident or damage lol so don't know which way to lean. Although rentals are good with keeping cars in good shape im lost at what to go after haha

I have a 2011 Elantra and I don't think I will buy a Hyundai again. Yes, the horn sucks, but I also find the build quality pretty low. Within 3 months, the volume button on my steering wheel broke. Parts of the car feel very flimsy. Hyundai lied about the MPG that car is supposed to get and the build-in MPG reading is always 2-3 MPG higher than you are actually getting (compared to my manual calculation). At 30,000 miles, the engine started making this tapping noise when it's below 70 degrees out (sounds like a valve tapping type of sound). Also, after around 30k miles I noticed a sizable decline in MPG that the car gets (yes, I've done fuel injector cleaning and stuff, but no improvement). The rear brake pads wore out in 20,000 miles (you know, the brakes that get the least amount of use). The audio system sound is not very good. It doesn't come with a spare tire. The transmission sometimes doesn't want to shift and you can easily red-line your engine (this is from when it was new so it is not an age/wear thing). In the first 3 years, I had 4 of the tail lights burn out (nitpicky but come on, they should last longer). I have had 2 safety recalls, and the Hyundai dealers here won't give you a loaner car for a safety recall repair but they will happily give you a loaner for a service visit (you know 30k, 60k, etc. , the big $$$ service visits that you have to do to keep your warranty). Not the car's fault but the dealers suck. At the time I purchased it, I also looked at a Camry (didn't like the way it drove) and an Accord that I could have gotten for $1000 more than the Elantra. I took the Elantra because of recommendations and because of the gas mileage (which turned out to be over estimated).
@DallasDashcammer
@DallasDashcammer 8 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it a lemon. Some things just seem to be lower quality parts (light bulbs, brake pads) The engine and transmission are still running good. The new engine starting in the 2011 model (new body style as well) was a big reason for the recommendation for this car. Hyundai admitted to the incorrect MPG and gives all owners a cash reimbursement if/when you take your car into the dealer to have the mileage logged. I just think for the money I could have gotten a Honda or Toyota that would have been better quality. Who knows, the newer models may be better. The crappy dealer hasn't helped either. My three previous cars were Toyotas (Supra, Celica, and Avalon) and my quality experience was better with them.
@LetsDriveSomewhere
@LetsDriveSomewhere 8 жыл бұрын
If I was going to buy it, I would be most concerned about the longevity since I don't know anything about the brand. As far as comfort and attractiveness (which is all I care about in a rental) it's nice!!! Sucks you got stuck with that! Maybe consider trading it in for an Accord!
@DallasDashcammer

It's paid for now, so I plan to just drive it until the wheels fall off. Also, the resale value dropped really quick. Honda and Toyota definitely hold their value longer.

On the safercar(dot)gov website one of the biggest complaits about the car is the engine seizing at 60,000 miles for no reason and needing a whole new engine.

Yeah you can change almost any lights to LED as long as they fill fit and most sedans have that room. I was able to change every vehicle’s lights I owned (this Sonata was just a rental). I recommend VLEDs.com. They’re expensive but fantastic, insanely bright, and easy to install.

Datsun 100a Well they are considerably more reliable aren’t they? At least from what I’ve heard and experienced myself. My family’s Ford and Chrysler products have been pretty unreliable to terrible. (For the exception of our Jeep Liberty which I am told is a miracle.) Our Toyotas and Hondas have been very good so far. I’ve heard the same.
@datsun100a3
@datsun100a3 5 жыл бұрын
@Let's Drive Somewhere You say that but don’t realize those are just moments when specific car models have common problems in general. For example, my moms Ford Focus has a transmission problem. That’s a common problem with the Focus transmission. Start looking forward to American automobiles, as we live here anyway. My dads 02 Tahoe has been alive up to 270k miles and still functions like new. He also had to get rid of his 09 Camry because of transmission problems. It costed too much to replace and he decided it was better to sell it. My step dad has a 2003 Ford Mustang GT that has been left alone for 5 years. He jumped the battery and it fired right up. Horn worked, needed an oil change, few diagnosing and it had no trouble out on the road. I tried it out and it drove like a dream. It handled like a perfect summer car floating like a cloud. My point being that American cars have great taste and power, although Japanese cars usually end up being the noticeably reliable.
