I live near Boston and have learned not to judge people by their appearance. Some of wealthy people here dress casually and drive modest cars. Sometimes, the old line New England families do not show their money. The centuries old money is protected, hidden, and quiet. The names are Bradford, Proctor, Winthrop, Cabot, Lodge, etc. The guy driving the old pick-up truck may be worth millions.

this literally happened to me when I was only twenty years old. I was making really good money selling one of my first inventory programs to used car dealerships. A friend had bought a new Cadillac Escalade and of course I had to have one too. I went down to the Cadillac dealership and approached the first salesperson I saw. He was showing the new Escalade to another couple. I asked if I could test drive an Escalade and he looked at me with contempt and replied with sarcasm, "You're in the market for an Escalade!?". I said yes and would like to test drive it. I told him I was considering the new Yukon and Navigator as well but really liked the Escalade. He told me there wasn't one available to test drive. I asked about the one that the couple just exited. Salesman replied, sorry it's not available. As I was walking away, he turned to the couple and said to them, "I doubt he could afford an Escalade". Lets just say that more than infuriated me. So, I went down to the Lincoln dealership and walked up to the first salesman and asked him if he wanted to sell a car today. Salesman responded with an emphatic yes. I said, "Great! you can sell me that 2001 Lincoln Navigator", and I pointed right at the SUV. When we went inside to start doing this paperwork, he asked me to start filling out a credit app. I told him I would be paying in CASH and in FULL today. The next day, I drove back to the Cadillac dealership along with a friend. We both parked in front of the General Manager's office. As I walked through the door, the same asshole salesman greeted me and asked if he could help me. I asked to speak to to his manager. I told the GM that my experience yesterday was less than satisfactory and if I could discuss the matter in private. In his office, I pointed to my new Navigator through his window and said, "See that truck, that would have been an Escalade just like my friend's parked next to it but your salesman told me one wasn't available for a test drive and turned to other customers and told them I didn't look like I could afford an Escalade. The GM stopped me and left the office. He came back with the Finance Manager and asked me to start again. After I explained to them how I made my living and I literally told them no salesman should judge a book by it's cover just as this actress did in the video. The GM asked me to wait while they left the office. After about ten minutes they came back into the office with the salesman and fired him in front of me. Normally, I might feel bad about this, but I know that guy was a racist POS. watching this was like reliving that all over again. crazy.

I had a surprising experience in the 70's living in Texas at the time. I was camping with some friends out in an rural area to ride dirt bikes over a weekend. The second day we were there a man drove up in an old pick up truck with worn overalls on looking pretty shabby. He asked us about our bikes and offered to share a watermelon he had back on the bed of the truck. We said ok and we ate the watermelon and as we did, the guy told us about the history of the area and the early history of Texas. He was an interesting guy,no way dumb. He wished us well and drove off after an hour visit. Later that day the property owner came to check in on us and we told him about the old guy who said to call him Boone. The owner said we just ate a watermelon with one on the richest men in America who once owned half of North Texas.. T.Boone Pickens! Yes,never judge a book by its cover.
