This installer is smart. He is not covering the whole door like all the other installers are doing. He is covering metal and holes that reverberate. No need to use too much material. Very good job! Science is applied properly. All the other installers should learn from him.

Yes it would, but I don't think that there would be much difference in readings. A 3db reduction cuts the noise in half. Thats substantial. A 6 db reduction would be miraculous.

A 2-3dB reduction is at the edge of being noticable for the human ear, a 10dB reduction is perceived as half as loud as before.

1) Text instructions on how to install soundproofing material on door claims I should use: aeroflex + accent + biplast. Video presents that I should use different layers: aero + aeroflex + biplast. Facebook response claims accent is not preferred in combination with biplast as they are too similar products. So what should I choose as the middle layer: accent or aeroflex? I don't care about thermal isolation so maybe I can use just 2 layers: aero + biplast. 2) Between the plastic door cover and metal middle part of doors I got an average of 10 mm of free space. I want to install biplast on plastic door covers. Which one should I choose 10 or 20 mm biplast? Biplast is open-cell material so in other words, the question is: does thicker, squeezed biplast will still silence sound better than not squeezed one? 3) If I want to silence car doors should I choose STP aero or STP profi? Profi is heavier but it seems it's reasonable better than aero to choose profi than aero. 4) My external metal layer of the door have few holes in it. Holes are used to keep external plastic door cover (something like citroen cactus external plastic door cover). Which material should I use to cover only those single holes (without covering whole door). Holes are 0,5 x 0,5 cm big, plastic pin goes through them and as they are on the external layer of door (hide under the plastic cover), they are exposed to weather conditions. 5) Should I install stp aero/profi on plastic cover that is put outside on my doors (something like citroen cactus plastic cover). It's plastic so maybe it's not so important as maybe it's not vibrating so much? 6) I want to install only a few small squares (20 x 20 cm) of stp aero/profi on my metal doors. Just to reduce vibration and not increase weight too much. If I do that should I also install small accent/aeroflex squares on those aero/profi squares or it's not expected to bring any effort due to too small square size? 7) Your informations on the pages are quite poor. There is too little information regarding materials and their purpose. Also, text manuals present different information than videos. There are no efficiency graphs between materials so I can't really choose materials on my own. Tech help in countries is weak and not enough.

Okay, 1st layer is for vibro deadening, 2nd layer is for sound absorption. In order to get good results you should use 2 types of materials, because first you should remove lowfrequancy vibrations from the metal, then you should disperse high frequency waves.

I'm still learning about this process. How to you gain access to the inside of the door when you cover it all up with this adhesive mat? I realize you can just cut a hole but doesn't that ruin the integrity of the barrier? Would you have to peel it all off and do it again? It seem like going over it with a new piece would make the sound proofing too thick in some model vehicles and prevent you from getting the door cover back on.
@standartplast
@standartplast 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! First of all, you don’t need to “open” the door too often. The second - some car model have special plastic plugs for technical holes in doors. In this case, you don’t need to install soundproofing materials on the metal panel outside. Thereby, you have an access. But, if you have already soundproofed the metal door card inside - you should remove the material and install the new one. Because is not permissible to apply used soundproofing material.

In the video, you cover almost 100% of every panel surface with alubutyl vibration damping materials. I read on many places that only 25% to 50% of panel coverage with alubutyl is enough for effective vibration damping. Can you please explain why you used almost 100% coverage with alubutyl? It appears to be excessive waste of expensive material.
@standartplast
@standartplast 5 жыл бұрын
First of all, there is no 100% covering, for example we don't cover bracing struts and A-, B-, C-, D-pillars. In addition, thereis the antirusting effect from sound deadening. So if you put some small parts of vibro-deadening materials on the metal surface and after that you cover with sound absorbing materials, gaps (places without vibro-deadening materials can gather moisture.
@bobbygeiser8478
@bobbygeiser8478 5 жыл бұрын
25-50% of panel coverage with butyl deadener will achieve 75-80% of 100% coverage. You will acheive more deadening the more you add, but there is diminishing returns. Focus more on strategic areas (large flat areas, or areas above parts that make noise, like the exhaust or wheel wells) if you're trying to save a bit of money. The foam and vinyl layers are a sound barrier, and will have a much more linear/parallel reduction to coverage ratio. I wouldn't worry about the anti rusting properties that sound deadening can give you, there are much cheaper solutions for that if it concerns you.
@NihadH
@NihadH 5 жыл бұрын
Bobby Geiser All nicely sad. I agree with your statements, except that I think that 100% coverage is essential for sound blocking (foams and vinyl). Even small gaps in coverage will cause significant "leakage" of sound through, just like water leaks through cracks in membranes.

car $25,000, insulation material and labor $20,000. On a serious note this all nice and dandy, but to be realistic you need to drive the car with a "before" decibel rating and an "after" decibel rating and then see if it is truely worthwhile.

Yes, absolutely. I got curious I did a little measuring on two of my cars with a sound meter app on my phone. I was looking for a comparison, not an absolute answer. One of the cars is a 2003 Lexus ES300. Its a very quiet car at any speed. The other is a 2006 Honda Pilot. Its noisy. At speeds up to 50 mph, the Lexus measured 3 to 4 db lower than the Honda. Tje Honda was substantially louder even sitting at a traffic light. At 80 mph on the highway both cars measured within 1db of each other. The difference is that the Lexus always sounded substantially quieter all speeds despite the same readings. It has a much better quality sound. I don't think you need to apply as much insulation as this guy is doing, though I reserve that right in the future. In any case, the objective is to reduce noise incursion and increase sound quality. If those objectives are met, its a win

Hello, thanks for the question. Noise insulation of the fire-wall is necessary if you want to get rid of the engine noise in the cabin. First of all you need to eliminate the noise associated with a malfunction of the engine. Then the fire-wall is processed with 2 layers, the first is vibro-deadening (for example, Bomb Aero), the second is sound-absorbing (for example, Aeroflex). For the full effect, we also recommend to use STP materials for the hood and front wheel arches.

Hi, thank you for the question. As for roof, it can resonate under high speed and emit low-frequency energy. It approximately 10-15% of the total contribution. And we recommend use vibro-deadening material (STP Aero, STP Black Gold, STP Black Silver) as a 1st layer, and sound-absorbing material (STP Biplast, STP Biplast Wave) as a 2nd layer for the roof. It protects of the rain noise and contributes to improving the sound.

It is not correct information, that normal car has 40 dB when engine is running. The most quiet car has 62 dB during driving with 130 km/h speed. Even car with blank movement has 45 dB. 40 dB is the noise pressure level, when it is quiet in your room and you go to sleep. Noise reduction by 10 dB as you have mentioned is 3 times noise reduction. With any soundproofing materials, nobody can achieve such result. Materials which can provide such result must have large thickness and high weight. Such materials can not physically be applied on any car.
