Car squeaks constantly while driving

My car squeaks when I drive on the interstate. It drives me NUTS.
EDIT: I have since sold this car and never had this fixed. There are some great suggestions in the comments! Thanks guys!

Had this exact same noise that was happening at random times (also hard to tell where exactly it was coming from). Was driving me nuts. I tried lubricating all the suspension parts; control arms; drive belt pulleys, and still had the noise. I took it to one of my mechanics, and it turned out to be a loose radiator fan. Once he tightened that bolt up, no more noise. Hope this helps someone!

Thank god this video existed to show the garage the noise! I had this for ages and it was driving me mad, and the car never made the noise for the mechanics, typical! I had new brake pads (needed them anyway) and a new clutch put in and it was solved! They reckon it was the clutch bearing making the noise. But it’s gone! Now to diagnose the other noise it’s making now 🙈

Had literally the same sound from my '01 Ford Explorer. Narrowed the sound to my steering column. A week prior I'd replaced the burnt out odometer light bulbs. Now I can actually see how fast I'm going & how much gas I have when I turn my headlights on at night! Behind the plastic lower dash panel (panel above the pedals) is a metal sheet, or at least on my car. The metal sheet & bracket below my steering column were rubbing against each other I'm not sure if I reinstalled the metal sheet wrong or what? But I took the metal sheet off, & tightened the bracket below the steering column. Put rubber foam weather seal (same width as regular tape) on the steering column bracket & on where the 5 screws go for the metal sheet. Creating a gap so the two peices of metal weren't rubbing against each other. Put everything back together, & now no more chirping/squeaking! Again, for me, it was basically metal on metal rubbing against each other causing that annoying sound. Hope this helps!!

I had the same...2014 Ford Escape...I sat all the way to the back of the car while my wife drove. The "noise stopped." Am 99% sure it is the foam creaking in the back around the spare tire. I am going to wrap the foam in cloth, maybe put some cloth around the area too....and some weight over it...

I heard this exact same thing on my 99 Honda Accord several weeks back. It worsened from occasionally like this at high speeds to a constant squeak at all speeds. I noticed if I stepped on my breaks it did not go away. I determined IT WAS NOT THE BREAKS because I jacked up both sides and spun the wheel and gradually took break parts off until I heard the squeak stop. I ended up taking all the break parts off and the squeak still remained. I talked to an auto store worker who said it was probably a bearing (though they don't usually squeak when they're bad) or the boot on the CV axle.

I have the same squeaking noise in a Mini Cooper 2013 and it's not as loud in side the car as it is outside, it happens when letting go of the gas pedal but not when accelerating, breaking, pressing or depressing the clutch. The mechanic said the suspension is fine and would not touch it any more. As another person drove with me in the car he suggested it might the one of the pulleys as the sound is coming from the right side of the car.

It could be lots of things! Broken or loosed nuts, belts, pulleys, even bushings! My 81 Celica had the same problem. I replaced the front control arm bushings, the sway bar bushings and strut rod bushings, and the squeaking stopped. Note: if It's the bushing!...try getting them greased. If broken. Replace the bushings with greaseble fittings!

My 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe started this irritating squeaking last week. It sounded like it was coming from the rear suspension. The squeaking was worse when I went over bumps and took sharp turns. Finally, I went under the car in the back to check the shocks, springs, and other suspension parts. When I was pushing the car up and down on the rear shocks, I noticed that the spare tire was moving so I pushed on the spare tire and it squeaked. Most of the air had gone out of the tire and that allowed it to move and squeak. I re-inflated the spare tire to 60 PSI and tightened the lift cable and the squeaking was magically gone.

Really late on this one, but maybe it’ll help someone. Had the same squeaky noise while driving my trailblazer. In my case it was a bolt that holds the sway bar bushing. It was loose and made the squeaky sound. I was replacing the lower control arm when by chance I grabbed the sway bar and heard the sound. It took care of it. I was going crazy trying to figure out what it was. Hopefully this helps anyone with the same problem.

Guys some help here. I hear the same noise as the one in the video, like there is a nest with birds in the back of the car. But mine must be some kind of chasis or suspension sqeak because when the car is OFF and I jerk it back and forth it sqeaks. It is a 1989 Nissan micra by the way. I am not that familiar with car parts and thats why I cant guess what it may be. Sounds like there is no lube in the suspension, or something like that. Thanks a lot.

i fixed mine! gladly. Turn out it was the sound from some plates at the engine area was missing a screw. first i thought it was from wheel but we gave some shake on the front hood and find out one of the screw is missing and it banging with the car frames front.

My 2010 Hyundai does this. Mine sounds like it is coming from the steering column or floor board area. It's usually only prominent at high speeds on straight interstate driving.

Hi I have the same problem with my strada 96 pickup model. I hear the sound at around 20 kph onwards. But when I tried to pull the steering wheel towards me it stops. I've changed the adapter and got a new steering wheel and placed it really tight. It stills chirps but when I try to pull the steering wheel towards me it stops. Any thoughts? My car had the same noise, Z rod had been changed and sorted. The ends of it were too soft and wouldn't work properly anymore. So difficult to move the new one's ends as they are hard and how it supposed to be. I used to recieve knocking sound from passenger side when I was Steering to left and right mostly left and the problem was ball joint then coil spring problem followed that. wd 40 would just delay it and would not stop to have an accident. Replacing it with new ones is the healties way.

My Ford focus has a similar noise but faster/more constant on the front right, and it makes the sound only sometimes, whether I'm driving or stopped. It doesn't always happen but when it does, it only dies down and stops when I turn the car off.

It's more of a chirp. Could be caused by pulley misalignment. Could also be a bad waterpump bearing. Bring it in and ask them to check all the pulleys, make sure its aligned properly, and replace the belt.

I'm having the same problem with my Saturn same noise. I was told that my brake pads need to be replaced. I guess there's a small medal piece that starts to make that noise once your brake pads are low.

I recently had the exact same sound coming from my front wheel. Sounded like a cricket in my wheel. Checked the brakes, plenty of pad material left, but they were dirty. I checked the slide pins make sure they operate smoothly. I noticed brake fluid leaking from my caliper piston seal. I pushed the piston back cleaned the brakes and the problem went away. Note to self,, check and clean brakes at least once a year.

@@Swoliosis1 This comment is from several years ago....trying to remember, maybe the rubber seal got positioned back into place. It was the original piston seal and calipers had never been serviced. I removed the piston and cleaned and reassembled the seals. It's the cleaning and repositioning of the seals that helped.

Wheel bearings usually have a hum to them. I am not saying it's not the problem but yeah. That sound in the video is very close to what I am trying to figure out right now with my car--91 Acura Integra GS.I went to the junk yard and got different steering knuckles, put them on, still the same sound. I did this primarily because they are fairly cheap and I needed a bit of time to press out the bearings on the knuckles that was on the car to start with. Since it was squeaking a bit, I decided to go ahead and change the bearings, also the hub is pressed into the knuckle/bearings and I needed to change a stud on each side due to being stripped when I bought the car. I dislike driving with 3 lug nuts on each side on the front, the rear I wouldn't have a huge issue with--but that's me, the front not so much. Anyway, while the hub was off, I went ahead and replaced all the studs even though only around 3 where "bad", 2 completely fucked. Replaced them, put the steering knuckles back on the car, crossed fingers and... Still squeaking. While I was doing it, I did a few checks and at least in my situation the only thing I could find wrong is the upper ball joint on the driver side. That has a bit of play in it, I plan on replacing both at some point in the future with the camber kit deal. So if I remember about it, and after they are on and the squeaking stops I will try and reply here. My squeaky noise is just like this but it depends a bit. steering left or right at speed of say 35mph to 45mph the sounds changes a little bit and or stops some. The sound doesn't change noticeably when going fast like the rate of the squeak so to speak. Also I know for a fact it's not the breaks. I replaced the rotors all the way around with cross drilled slotted rotors, and the pads with carbon ceramic. It doesn't squeak when it's stopped, it only does it while moving, in gear out of gear, clutch depressed not depressed, etc, the only thing that makes it squeak is moving. The dust sheld on both sides are deformed a bit, but I made sure they had quite a bit of clearence and the only way to get them to touch the rotor would be a lot of wind within the wheel to deform it in such a way that pushed it up against it, and seeing as the squeaking is still there at low speeds, I highly doubt that's an issue. It does squeak a bit more when going faster but does not do so at the rate of speed increase. I think it's due to the upper ball joint moving a bit as the car travels down the road, all the little bumps and everything. I think it's either that or the struts/springs. I may spray it with a little lubricant and see what that does.

Same here. I read somewhere that it could be a jammed rock near the break pads. I live in the middle of the woods on a mountain and my 1 mile driveway is gravel. I usually don't hear the squeal/grinding sound until a few mins after driving. Have you found out what it is for you yet?

nate atkinson I have a 2007 Ford F-150 4x4 with 70,000 miles on it and it is making this same noise too! I just had front end work done in December, that I knew I had to get done in order to pass my inspection. I had to get new brakes and rotors, new upper & lower control arms and ball joints. Truck ran great! Like new for about 3 weeks with no squeaks! while making left turns with foot on and off the brakes and while switching lanes...suddenly, the same squeaking noise came back. Not sure if it could be the brake pin or something else. After spending 1300 bucks to fix these things on my truck, a week before Christmas, I’m going to pay my mechanic a visit and remind him about all the work they did to my truck and the noise I wanted them to fix. I was just wondering if someone here might know what else it could be. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.👍

This is kind of the same problem I'm having. I recently hit a curb & long story short.. After doing so, I had a lot of vibration in the steering wheel & pedals (even at low speeds) & a squeaking noise? like in the video. took it to the shop & the mechanics said it my Wheel Hub assembly + Rotor needed to be replaced. After they took a look & put wheel back on, no more vibration in steering wheel or pedals but I still hear that squeaking noise or I dont know how to describe clunking noise? when going over 40MPH or while braking & slowing down.. & if you look at the wheel from the side, you can tell that its wobbling.. almost as if its bent or about to fall off. Any ideas?

Same, recently hit a curb from a snowstorm. I hit my left side around 20km/h. Right side wheel squeaks exactly like this. I don't know what part it is. I have to replace the entire suspension on my car's left side and may have to do some replacements on the right side too...

I have this same problem with my camaro I lifted the car up on the rear side and accelerated it was coming from the passenger rear side but I haven’t been able to find the problem it only does the noise when driving more then 40MPH and once I stop it goes away it gets louder when there’s other vehicles next to me or a wall or something that makes it echo if anyone have any suggestions please let me know thank you! It’s driving me crazy!

its the sound of brake pads seal to indicate that you have to change pads moreover you also have to polish the drums , because you didnt change brake pads on time and they become very thin causing your drum polish dull

My car does the same thing, i have a 2003 mach 1 mustang and it comes from the front left side. And i've replaced all my shocks and struts and rotors on back and front. They even cleaned up the break pads and lubed up everything and it still makes this noise. Please help its so annoying.

its your ball joints or lower control arm look for cracking in the rubber joints

I found the problem it was the metal brake clips that were broken and causing my car to squeak $15 fix

Not a belt. Belts squeal and the squeal change tones as speed changes. This is a chirp (meaning metal on metal) and while the frequency of the chirps changes their tone does not.

nclullaby1 It is probably the serpentine belt or one of its pulleys gone bad. Maybe the Air conditioner pulley.

These are two different problems. The one in the video is a driving problem you might have a problem with your pully. To make sure go under the hood, you might have to take off the engine cover and using a water bottle drop a little water on the belt when you have the AC on and hear the squeak

Had the same issue two months ago. Change brake pads and rotors fixed mine. If it's not that then check ball joints or wheel bearing/hub. All of its behind the tire and simple to swap out.

The same thing happens to my 2012 jeep wrangler. I just bougth my car 3 weeks ago. I hear this sound only when I'm drinving and the faster I go it seems like it makes a faster sound but not really louder. This sounds seems like it comes from the side of the car like from the wheels. Also I can only hear it if theres something next ot it like a car, sidewalls, something that would make the sound echo louder. on the open flat road I can bearly hear it.

Andy It was the disk plate behind the rotor. After replacing the breaks and rotors. The disk plate was bent so when I made left turns it would squeak a little until it got worn down then it stop
