You could write a PhD dissertation on why these guys matter. And the further our culture descends the more they will. They are the embodiment of intelligence, compassion, humor and family. Tom and Ray are priceless, timeless treasures.

Hi Gus. Thanks so much for putting into words what many folks feel, and whose lives were touched by Tom, Ray and the Car Talk family. Sure, the show was about cars and car repair. But it was also about how cars are such a part of our culture, whether we're drivers, passengers or pedestrians. It was about our relationships with each other. I feel very fortunate to have been able to listen to them each weekend for so many years, many times in my car.

Thanks, I wrote it because Tom and Ray will never get the public recognition they deserve. Perhaps I’ll write that dissertation, as they are a true marker of the best of us and what what’s missing in our culture and in our dialogue. They were among the smartest, most educated guys in the room (in what could be called the Misinformation Age) the funniest, extremely talented, yet refreshingly humble, down to earth, and accessible. They are a reminder of the best of us, a canary in our coal mine of what’s missing. Remembering them is bittersweet, but mostly sweet, and we can relive them whenever we want. A gift, truly.

I've listened since they started. I would be late to work so I could hear the end of the show. Well worth my demerits. I listen to the podcast every week. Those guys are 2 of a kind. RIP Tommy.

Thank you so much for uploading this! I've been trying to find "live" Car Talk programs and this it the only one I could find. Keep it up and have a great day!

These 2 guys from Cambridge, MA might have done more to unite the country than anybody. Self-depreciating humor, respect for thier callers, and car smarts.Loved all over the country.Tommy's laugh.

Yeah but it's been ripped apart since then, NPR has done more than its share to screw it all up.

the word you were looking for is deprecating, not depreciating

Two guys from Boston could not have created so much radio magic for so long either before or after. They were the two right guys at the right time, preserved for all time. So that, as our culture becomes at the same time more and more vulgar and also thinner-skinned, we have the example of two modest, smart, real guys to anchor us to a better time.

Is there video footage of this?

Hi there. There may be some type of archival video out there somewhere. But since this was for radio, I've never heard about it. I believe there is footage of the Magliozzi brothers at other venues, but I've only seen photos from this one. Glad you enjoyed it.
