We bought a 2012 Buick Verano with the chrome, leather, and BOSE package for $18,000 and it is a very nice comfy family car. I still see Buick as the little old lady cars but they are changing there image because after driving my moms (verano) i'd take one over most of these new cars i.e. the Dodge Dart

+Toriano Winston If this car has the Nav option there is no tone button as there is a Nav control button taking the spot. It's only accessible on the touchscreen. You can arrange the screen "buttons" and if you want you could put the tone control on the first page of the three available screens.

Wanna know something ironic? No kidding, my wife and I are 35, we did a lot of comparison shopping, and were once exclusively import owners. We're both PhD educated, and as we were shopping we read an article about Buick buyers being typically affluent, educated with an advanced degree, love classy luxury but don't care to flaunt, like responsible performance, have a solid home and finances, grounded, values, etc, and that's truly us. Then we tried the brand and it was like YES, this is for us!

Honestly my grandparents just got one and its a really nice car for the money. They got it on lease for 159 a month. Really a better deal than even a base model focus or cruze now adays. For that price you cant touch anything luxurious for that. And honestly base price it starts at around 22k? Thats a steal.

Great review, if but a few too many complaints, for a really great car. I wanted one so bad when looking for a new car a few years ago but had to settle for a nicely equipped Cruze as I just couldn't swing the Verano price on my budget. Shame GM killed the Verano because of the less than stellar sales numbers...

Now, I own a Regal GS, and she owns a Lacrosse Touring, and they are simply not representative of GM failures from the past. It's an entirely new era for Buick, and probably now their most successful ever. And yes, I agree with you whole-heartedly. I'd say most of these off base responses are coming from people who couldn't afford something as nice as a Buick, or worse, they can neither afford nor do they understand the subtle but significant beauty of the brand.

Finally, 114 years and still surviving is a title no other automaker carries, so someone is buying them, keeping them, and their future looks very secure especially as they're a global brand more popular in China than they are in the US. We think that's bizarre--I bet in Asia they're wondering why we love their cars so much when they think our cars are the ones to prize as top of the line.

wow, what a nick picky review about the temp knob and screen interface. I have no issues with any of his nit picks. the temp controls are easy to use and read and you get the read out on the screen. as far as bass/treble, how the hell often do you have to change that. the screen is simple to use, can customize it all you want.

I'm 35, and I own two Buicks, and we came from imports. My wife and I are certainly not old people. I don't know quite how it screams "old people" to you, but I'd rethink that position. Maybe do some research, too. Funny thing, and I have to give a ton of credit to Buick, but in only 3 short years they reduced their average buyer age from 72 to 53 and that's one hell of a decrease in such a short period of time. You seriously might look into that. Don't know if it'll convince you, but it's true.

Did i ever say Acura was #1 in reliability? no they're far from it, And I'm pretty sure if the Japanese gov't gave Acura an extra $40 billion,in 2008 their advertising campaign would also be off the roof and support its sales and build quality..I'm more of a Toyota guy and own a '99 camry and 2006 Avalon ltd after making a mistake in buying chevy malibu which I traded in. Besides, I'm talking about GM as a whole, not just buick.

For reliability, take a closer look, because Buick is always in the top ranks of reliability on JD Power. I know one year they tied Lexus for #1, and a year or two later they tied Jaguar for #1. Since about 1989, I "think" they've always been at least in the top 10. So far as resale, Buick is an expensive car, and I'd say if resale is an issue for a buyer, then the buyer can't afford that car. And for Japanese cars, well, Toyota hit the historic record for recalls, and Acura recently followed.

They should stick a de-tuned turbo in the cruze and you'd have a full on vw Jetta fighter. Both will have diesel options, both have turbo option, both have hybrid, and both have a regular gas. Only problem that I found is that I'd have a Jetta.

@Richard Severson. Totally correct. Not the 80's or 90's Buicks anymore. Entirely new and successful era for them. Hate to sound like Shaq in the commercial, but let me put it this way...if you're still berating Buick, then it's clearly because you just don't know Buick (now). Either that, or you find one hard to afford because they're certainly not inexpensive cars. You have to know the new brand to fully appreciate it and realize it's not for the elderly anymore.

Let me answer you on that. My aunt traded in her '04 Buick Lesabre. She bought it new, kept it for 9 years, put on 248,000 miles, only replaced the battery, brakes and tires, (and a few bulbs). That was it. Traded it in, got $2500 for it, and it's for sale now on a used dealer's lot for $6,000. You're just categorically wrong in what you've said. Look anywhere. Buick's reputation of quality is what's kept it around for 114 years as the oldest surviving luxury auto maker.

You can thumbs up and down with the steering wheel for Pandora or Stitcher, they even said it when they introduced Intelilink into the GM line up. As for the start/stop button I personally like that vs. some ugly red button some where on the dash. Even Audi positions it well. As for the climate stuff, its to make things not cluttered on the screen and there is a TONE button on the stereo controls, one touch, no need to mess with the touch screen. -_-

I think you meant the Acura ILX. Not the TSX. And this isn't an IS 250 competitor either (that I'm aware of). Take those other brands any other day, great for you--problem though, you'd be in the minority. This Verano has beaten the competition in every single category, and and has sales figures four times higher than the ILX competitor. This car has been one of the best selling for 2012 and is projected to hold that title in 2013 with their turbo model. Just sayin'

I like my 2014. Nice, smooth ride, nice interior. Nice looks. 4 gripes: it's really small on the inside, the trunk doesn't stay up if you're on even a small uphill incline (like my driveway), the text to speech on incoming text messages is almost useless because it reads ALL of the header information and the most annoying thing - which I learned the hard way - if your battery is dead and you try to start the car YOU CANT REMOVE YOUR KEY FROM THE IGNITION until you charge the battery. Which is made more difficult by the fact that you also can't open the trunk if your battery is dead, so not only will your jumper cables will be useless, but you'll have to use your wife's golf clubs since you won't be able to get yours out of the trunk (but strangely you'll still play really well and shoot one of your lowest scores of the year - go figure)!
@socalguy97
@socalguy97 11 жыл бұрын
Why yes you did say that. In reference to Acura, you said "Buick can never match that, either in sales or 10yr span for reliability." Buick is kicking ass in sale, in general, and I say General Motors is doing well enough as a whole. Do you follow the stock market? If so, you'd see they're stock is consistently up over time and that's not a sign of failing sales. As for Toyota, the highest number of recalls in automotive history? I wouldn't look to them for quality. Buick, no recalls.

I wouldn't call Forbes an unreliable source, per se, considering they cited their statements. I know you see Toyota/Lexus as quality, that's cool and all, but the data says otherwise, honest--I'm not making it up. Btw, and I'm asking respectfully here, but who cares if GM received a government bailout? Really, tell me, how much out of your own pocket did you personally pay to save GM? I didn't spend a cent. Don't know anyone saying they did, and at the end of the day I still love my car. (shrug)

No on the contrary, she beat the car to death; I begged her to get it serviced regularly, and she didn't. And then I have an uncle who has a '96 Lesabre with 213,000 and he won't part with it (and I've tried to get him to get rid of it). It's bullet proof. He doesn't take care of it either. And anybody wondering how current model Buicks compare to other makes in the industry for dependability read the new 2016 JD powers dependability study. This Verano took the highest ranking honors for compact cars and other Buicks took top spots in other segments. And if you check sales figures since 2010, Buick beat both Acura and Lexus in total sales. Acura is coming back this quarter (up 24% I think), and that's nice, but it doesn't make up for the last 2-3 years that Buick was killing them in sales. Oh, and you can look this up too, but I don't believe Acura was ever #1 in reliability on JD Power whereas Buick was more than once and is always in the top 10 and has been since 1989. Just look it up...they're facts, not opinions.

Never really understood this car's purpose in GM's lineup. If I wanted a premium compact sedan and didn't want to pay 3-Series money I'd rather opt for a Cruze LTZ, which is cheaper than this car, looks better, has a fairly nice interior, and drives on the same platform. The Verano is unappealing.

well it shows how much a car company cares about building its reputation and taking its business approaches. If someone had to pay for a mistake I made, that would be kind of pathetic. Thats one of the faults Toyota had, they were careless about one part of the vehicle and it ruined their reputation, but eventually paid for it. GM made some bad decisions, but taxpayers are footing the bill. It comes out of everyone's pocket one way or another, you dont exactly choose where your tax $ goes

a loaded tsx or is250 easily push 40 grand.. fully loaded this thing is 31k, it has more presence and has a turbo engine, something both those other cars don't offer. I wouldn't be so quick to knock the buick. In just the way that kia and hyundai are making better cars buick and others are doing the same

Yea I know what their stock is. I bought several shares since I became a GM owner; and I'm a professor, not a government official lol. Regardless, the stock is up. I don't care at whose hands. I like my product. I've never heard a soul complain about their Buick. And killing/injuring people (Toyota) is certainly not a common mistake in mass production. It's unacceptable. Turned me off to their products entirely. And according to that Forbes article, GM is paid in full; Ford owes the taxpayers.

consistently up huh?Iemme tell you something. Gov't bought stocks was part of the baliout effort to keep GM alive along with massive loans (bought 20% of GM)so that technically doesnt count as a thriving company, especially when those loans are STILL not payed back yet and the fact that gov't has been unable to sell GM shares, Second GM stock is at $28.16 while Toyota is at $103.54 which do you think is doing better in the car market? And those recalls is a common mistake with mass production

Regal is direct competitor to the TSX. This is directly competitive to the ILX (and has massively failed in every review compared to the Verano--look anywhere).
