Car Vlog #10: Lifting the RAV4 + New Wheels and Tires!

Hey Guys!
It's been approximately 4 weeks since I picked up my 2021 RAV4 XLE Hybrid Premium, and I couldn't keep her stock for long. I was dying to lift her and put new tires are wheels. Today, I decided to cruise over to Street Image Automotive in Santa Ana, CA to lift my rig, and install a new set of tires and wheels :)

Congrats! Yup! The spacer kit gives you more ground clearance without altering the ride quality. Literally feels stock 👌🏽

Most of the 2" lift kits I've seen through Rough Country say they are not compatible with the Hybrid. Which lift kit did you use

Hey cristy! Unfortunately, you may run into some rubbing issues. Even with my lift and spacers I had a tiny bit of rubbing at full turn. So I had to do some minor trimming

Thank you! I really appreciate it! 🙏🏽 My wheels are 16x8 +20. Tires are 245/70/16, and I also have 25mm wheel spacers all around. You’ll have a little bit of rubbing, but you should be fine 👌🏽

@@richrey4990 there was rubbing on a small plastic tab in the wheel well when we removed. Now there’s no rubbing

@@richrey4990 you’ll be fine without the spacers. I ran this spec without spacers and didn’t run into any issues.

I'm seeing a lot more 2" spacer lift kits than 2.5". Did you consider the 2.5 at all? At the end of the day would you go any higher?

I def do want to go higher. I’ve thought about stacking the coils and spacers. But still debating on what route I want. Which 2.5” kit are you talking about? Rough country?

@@HeyJodyBryan Yup the Rough Country 2.5" where the ones I was looking at. I recently came across 3" coilover suspension but it's not really in my budget for this mod. Thanks for your input man! I think imma go for the 2.5's and enjoy things from there.

Wondering if you have thought about getting the OEM hitch, which requires some modification to the bumper but the hitch sits much higher giving you better ground clearance.

I currently have the Curt hitch. It doesn’t require modifying the bumper, but unfortunately it sits lower than the oem hitch. The oem hitch gives more ground clearance

Looks good! I have a 3rd gen with 17s and was considering going to 16s for more side wall. I may just do that lol. -Also, 245/70/16s are 29.5in tires. 30s (235/75/16) can fit without issue.

Very nice stance! I am planning to mount a lift kit as well but I read a lot of people complain about vibrations after 6-7000 miles... I am very confused to be honest. How do you feel yours after 7 months? Thanks man!

Thank you! No vibrations. I lifted the RAV4 when she barely had any miles. I’m at 18k rn with zero issues. I hit the trails almost ever weekend and I’ve driven her across state lines and all over California. She still has no issues whatsoever 👌🏽

Hi there ! Question! I have my Rav4 lifted 1.5” (eibach springs) but today a stone broke my winshield 🤦🏽‍♂️ I’m gonna replace it in a couple of days, my question is? Hey man great build! I have the same exact model and trim except in blizzard pearl. A couple of questions, how did you get your tires to stick out and sit like that? I love the look. Thank you! I added 25mm hubcentric spacers. The rav4 doesn’t have the greatest rollover score, so I wanted to widen the stance. Those are all great options. I just picked the kendas because I got a good deal on them 😅 And you probably have seen me then 😂 I’m originally from nc sd, but I’m up in OC now. But I come down regularly to visit fam and friends

Thank you. Surprisingly the lift and wheels didn’t affect much. The roof rack affected the mpg more. I’m averaging 32-34 with my current setup on my hybrid. That includes roof basket, awning, waterport, cargo box, lift, wheels/tires, etc

Great. What was your estimated fuel economy before changing tires and wheels? How about the speed and passing power? Were they affected by the big wheels?

@@gl5960 I was averaging 38-40 mpg when I first got it without any mods. The wheels and tires definitely effected the power, but I can still get around fairy nimbly

Wider tires are lame. Look at farm tractors here in SoCal they use tall skinny tires to track in the thickest of mud after it rains with ease. 235/75/17 on a girl rav4.

I did. Pretty much need to do an alignment after any kind of modification to the suspension. Whether you’re lowering or lifting the vehicle will need an alignment after

I wanted a wider stance especially since I planned on taking my vehicle off-roading. The RAV4 has a terrible rollover rating. So I wanted to have a solid base/stance to help prevent from any possible rollovers when I’m on trails. Even if it’s slightly widening my stance

Not a cool idea to lift it up it probably drives like a shit, upgrading bigger wheels will screw your suspension it might look cool temporarily but if you want to keep your car running for a while then leave the way it was

1: lifting a vehicle like this rav4 are pretty excellent idea. 2: sure it can drives like shit, but as long as u do ur homework/research to find the right things. 3: upgrade wheels and tires will not mess up the suspension. At all.
