super badass playing and cover of this funk classic!

KZbin would have made my life so much easier when I was learning bass in the 70's, we had to replay songs over and over and interpret notes and hope you were playing it right. Players have no excuses anymore for not getting better, just play a video and practice.

I honestly think that the wah sound in the intro is a bass wah. The guitar is doing other stuff while the wah is being played, but the bass doesn't. If you have two guitarists in the band, no problem. Or in the studio they overdubbed the wah. But it doesn't sound like a normal guitar wah. I've experimented with it, and believe I'm right.

Another great job! I think your right, it sounds like he's using a lot of his thumb but playing lightly. Maybe a little similar to Louis Johnson's style when playing octaves with his thumb.

Greetings BelgaBass! Man, thanks for clearing this playing up for me. I been playing this song like you did for quite a while and I thought I was getting it wrong when I was listening to other players trying to play it. Now I feel vindicated! I have a Fender MusicMaster bass I brought when I was in junior high school in 1975. It's sunburst color. Thanks again! Love your playing.

Hi - I am 60 yo and just bought my first Bass Guitar. I have chosen this song as my first project. I have looked about and there are other versions and Bass Tabs but this version looks the best. However I cant find a matching Bass Tab. I have the gist but some parts are complex to follow so a link to this specific TAB would be wonderful.
@lorenzozinna47002 жыл бұрын
This is quite a hard song for starting, I would suggest picking it up later (without using tabs)

E string tuned down to a D?
@BelgaBass5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but only in the intro. It's a Hipshot D'tuner (Extender?). hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-xtenders. I used those a lot in the '90s, still seems to be available today but quite pricey I must say.

Another great rendition. Well done sir. It would be great if you could play Dynasty's Here I am.
@BelgaBass5 жыл бұрын
Thank you.I've looked into that Dynasty song, didn't know it, Leon Sylvers on bass. Unfortunately, since breaking my righthand middle fingertip a few months ago, the fingertip is now too stiff to reliably play that kind of busy bass line anymore.

@BelgaBass Жыл бұрын
Allow me to shock you then some further, and admit that I have not cleaned a bass (any of those in my vids) for at least the last 10 years :). I also do not possess any new bass, so no need to clean. The most recent one is the 5-string, somewhere beginning of '2000. It still has 3 of the the 5 original strings since I bought it 15 yrs ago, and also: never cleaned nor cooked. The white '78-79 Stingray is a rather recent almost perfect refinish , and I would be inclined to keep that one clean, but let's talk again in 5 years to see if I ever did...
