They are becoming super rare in this country as well. There's only one other unit in the wellington region (which is another Mobil, so it's identical to this one). Stations are gradually upgrading to newer systems, which more often than not are European systems, mainly Washtec's and Istobal's. We've had a big wave of PDQ's from the US over the lqast few years, but I think Caltex have stopped installing them, because of how stupidly unreliable they are.

Non down here either....When I first came to NZ in 2007, there were three (that I knew of): 1 - Shell, Lower Hutt - was replaced with a Washtec Softcare shortly after Z bought out Shell 2 - Caltex, Upper Hutt - was replaced by a LaserCrap 360 3 - Challenge Porirua - Went Bust & got demolished - is now a car park.

Nice smart little car you got Alex, the right kinda car for a student, efficient low cost an manual! I never switched my motor off when using car washes, kept the ac running but these days rarely go thru car washes, like to do it myself. Gosh I think the first car wash I went through was in the 1980s, in my dads car.. always fun, nice video :)

No way am I wasting fuel by leaving the engine on! I'm going to be filming various differnt machines, but only when I can afford it, which is not often, especially as I'm trying to save up for other things as well. Fortunately, Mobil are usually cheap!

Would love to do a Washtec SoftCare Evo at somepoint, yes, though not sure where that would be, since there's other's around also. Kilbirnie is a contender. As much as I'd love to come and do the Istobal M12 in Masterton, it's too far for me to travel....maybe if it's still there in years to come, then yes, but I currently cannot fund a trip to masterton.

Yes, but it is being replaced in 2020. It also doesn't work properly, and will only wash large cars since some of the machine's sensors are knackered. That's why I can't use it, as my car is too small.

@@carwashconnoisseur7216 I regularly visit the Porirua site on my way to work (to get Coffee), so I know some of the staff quite well. We were talking about the new one at Paremata, and the lady told me that they were getting theirs replaced in 2020. At the very least it is scheduled for replacement in 2020, so we can assume that it is going to happen. To be fair it does need replacing, since it is more than 25 years old, and doesn't work properly anymore.

Nice! We used to have one at Caltex in Wainuiomata (Without the display on the machine though), but sadly it's been replaced. No idea what the replacement is, but I think it's touchless.

A lot of the Caltex's in Wellington have PDQ Laserwash 360's, which are utter shite.....they're not bad at doing the job, but they're stupidly unreliable (the one in Porirua is only 5 years old, but it breaks down all the time). I think Caltex have stopped buying PDQ's now, in favour of Istobal M'Nex 22's (which is what's installed at the brand new Caltex in Paraparaumu). Those machine can do both Touch-Free or Brush wash. Meanwhile, BP and Z both buy Washtec's (either SoftCare or SoftCare Evo), and Mobil's tend to get whatever they like these days (I think it's the choice of the individual store). I've seen Ryko's, Istobal's, PDQ's and Washworld's all fitted at Mobil's int he last few years.

I had a look on Google Maps Steetview (as I can change the viewing date), and it looks like your local station does indeed have a PDQ Laserwash 360. However, you old system looks like it was an UltraClean, not a Premier XL. I can't say with 100% certainty, as the view isn't very good.

The "news" pages of the wiki in that link details any car wash upgrades I get news about, so if you check in regularly on the fandom site you'll see the upgrades. Alternatively, I also discuss any upgrades on my Instagram Livestreams. I stream on Insta most Tuesday nights (8pm NZ time), and all streams are able to be played back if you miss the show live.

@@the_alex_ellis_channel6923 however the ryko R-168 truck wash should get an upgrade to more filament or foambrite brushed with neon led rgb light show including the touchfree antlantis truck wash because all I know is some original classic car wash softgloss xs series is kinda screwed up. from hyvahyva's old video channel to some new modern channel which they did capture something wrong with softgloss xs and softgloss maxx the original classic of course. (though I tried any attempts to get the flicky poo off of my sister's car but it needs more soak and cloth or rinse though) (as if you know flicky is a bird)

Sadly, however, the motion sensors are buggered, so the machine can't wash cars as small as mine anymore. It is expected to be replaced in 2020. It'll most likely be replaced with either another M'Nex 22 (if it stays as a regular Mobil site - the most likely option) or an rubbish PDQ LaserWash 360plus if it's converted into an "On the Run" site, but I doubt that will happen. Paraparaumu's Mobil has the last remaining Premier XL in Wellington. How long it will stay there is anyone's guess. Mobil have started getting quite proactive with their wash upgrades these past couple of years.

One thing I recognized that these brushes are made of plastic and puts scratches on cars. The foam brite brushes don't scratch your car because its clpth
