Раньше опера не шла - не по мне была эта вся музыка. А услышала произведение Генделя впервые и сразу же влюбилась. Это очень современный композитор. Шикарная постановка. Исполнители - выше всяких похвал.

Thanks for posting the link. It has been a pleasure listening AND watching this. I have been particularly moved by one little thing: it's the closeness between the actors/singers: singing one into each other's face, touching each other, watching each other... I am not at all a very regular opera visitor, although it is an artistic genre I do like a lot. Maybe this is why this little detail touched me so much... Just an evening thought :-)

This is the aria that I can put the kids to sleep with, (or back to sleep after a bad dream) I can do this one now either sitting down on the side of a bed leaning over one, standing with a baby in my arms, or lying down in a bed with a toddler on my tummy. Learned it from this video, and how can I ever thank you for putting it up?

BTW every Baroque Cadenza on any instrument has a trill on the penultimate note. It's required. Check out Quantz, Matthesin and CPE Bach for Baroque performance practice. Also (see above sources) ornamentation was to be tasteful and appropriate to the style and sentiment of the composition. I think Phillippe would have made old man Quantz quite proud.

The Opera is Caesar in Egypt. His father has been killed, the head has been presented at the beginning of the story. Like soldiers are they preparing to respond by tarning themselves. He is lamenting about having to revenge his father.

Philippe Jaroussky once said that there is always some action to work alongside an aria which takes quite a while to sing. So the painting of themselves shows that they are united in their resolve to act, it makes the aria more interesting and solves the timing problem.

very nice etc. now can someone tell philippe to stop doing the same end to all his da capos? i mean if he was totally uninventive in the rest of the dacapo i could understand, but why so inventive then bam the same old go to octave higher, finish on a trille and last note. he does the same at the end of alto giove and countless other arias. pet peeve!
