more like 62k drive away with an underpowered lazy drivetrain which will go wrong in 6month (after 2019 Toyotas have been a basket case on reliability and dealers never fix anything but give you a run around). Good luck buying any rav4 for the price on their website. You will place orders like i have with the deposit but after a few months getting an email saying the order can't be fulfilled and the deposit being returned to your bank account. Keep in mind i still have 8 Camrys in my fleet ranging from 2019-2022.

Toyota's hybrid technology is so reliable because they started their research decades ago. Lithium-Ion batteries were developed by Japanese companies, which is why early Tesla used Panasonic batteries. BYD is a typical Chinese knock-off. But to compete in the Chinese market with price, you have to lower yourself to Chinese quality.

It was Exxon (yes, the oil company) that developed the lithium ion batteries, but the Japanese copied (some say stole) the technology back in the 1980s. The reason Toyota will be using BYD's PHEV system is because Toyota's own hybrid system is technologically obsolete. Technological competition in the Chinese market is intense, and Toyota had no choice but to abandon its own outdated system.

At 3:40, Tung says it has Apple Wireless Carplay, but had a look at brochure on BYD's site and it says "Requires compatible device,USB connection" - but does mention Android is Wireless - anybody know if this does indeed support Apple Wireless Carplay?

It 100 per cent supports wireless Apple CarPlay or, at least, BYD made this specific point in the product presentation. The spec sheet I was given also says wired Apple CarPlay, but BYD does point out this is their first model with wireless connection. Keep in mind, we've not tested the feature though, so check back for a full review coming soon!

I am a current RAV4 Hybrid owner. The NVH is garbage especially the buzzy 4 CYL and shockingly bad door seals. You can hear so much of the outside, I ofter have to check the windows are shut.

BYD F3DM phev released 2008, Mitsubishi phev came out 2013....the gen 5 BYD phev are far more efficient than anything the Japanese have. Sealion 6 is using gen4 Dmi

It's different, not worse. I mean yeah I wouldn't hate physical buttons, but it's also kind of refreshing not having so many buttons because the number of them in cars has exploded the last 15 years. Again though, nobody is forcing you to have this car. Have a great day now!

After I purchase the Sea Lion (to replace my 2000 RAV4 Hybrid) I may not even bother plugging it in that regularly since in HEV it can achieve (a UK or Ireland reviewer says) 5.4L/100km. Besides electricity (even at off peak) cost money.

Only China really has a large number of people driving PHEV. And in China, most people live in an apartment, it is not easy for them to charge the car everyday. But here in Australia, it is much more easy to charge if you live in a house.

85% of Australians live in an urban area and drive on average 33km a day. A fully electric EV would be just fine for most people. Hydrogen is 20 years away. A hydrogen fuel cell is powering an electric motor just like an EVs battery. But it does it less efficiently and the hydrogen itself is just as expensive as petrol. I don’t see the advantage of hydrogen at all.

PHEV just doesn't make sense. The public charging facilities and home chargers are accessible enough to switch to a BEV. The PHEV is better for working with someone who can't charge at home and occasionally uses a 240V wall socket to charge the battery. Anyone who lives in a house or townhouse should buy the BEV straightforwardly. Remember that one of the greatest reasons to switch to the EV is the low maintenance cost since there is no engine or transmission. The PHEV gives you more practicality which is based on your everyday cost.
