India of all places needs to go all electric BEV. Gas and diesel vehicles are old technology and are bad for the environment. Cities are now mandating clean vehicles. Busses are going electric. Scooters are going electric. All forms of transportation are moving to electric. Electric vehicles cost less for fuel, cost less for maintenance, last longer, are more reliable and don't pollute the environment. India is getting hotter and dryer in places with ground water running dry. We all need to make changes and pollute less.

EV's are just a fashion statement of cars. Would you wait for 1 hour to charge your car while travelling for just 150-200km? They don't even have range to do Delhi-Chandigarh-Delhi on a single charge. It's either ethanol in short term or hydrogen cells. EV's are best for countries the size of Luxembourg.

@Roddy Rod China is investing in EV's to get a first movers advantage in EV market for exports. Lithium ion batteries are easily produced in China coz they have rear earth elements deposits of large scale. Does India have it? No. Besides the impractical aspects of charging time is always there. And their is no pollution mitigation by EV's unless the country produce it's electricity power largely by Nuclear or hydro. Using thermal coal fired power station to make power to power EV's is the most stupid idea ever. All in all, it's a stop gap arrangement. Till real alternative to petroleum is found.
