Hell, it’s not even mana suppression, the technique Frieren practiced for 1000 years that beats the demon king. It failed instantly when she fought him. No, it was flower magic which Flamme taught Frieren on a whim because she felt bad that her training made Frieren fall out of love with magic.

Its nice that you realized the fact that Serie is supressing her mana. A lot of people didnt thought much about it because of her already huge mana pool. But to think that this huge amout is acutally her supressed mana pool is insane.

In the story it's supposed to be obvious, but some reactors don't notice it because when they're talking they don't read the dialogues anymore. That's why I think they shouldn't hesitate to use the pause button, most people wouldn't mind pauses if it means they don't miss stuff.

Fern did not respond to Richter on her own when she was asked if she is Frieren's student at the beginning of the episode. But she was so sure at the end when Serie asked her.

A detail about the true strength of magic hidden in this episode. Frieren has spent her entire existence hidding her mana in order to kill demons, but that failed, because the Demon King saw through it right away. Frieren's favourite spell however, is a field of flower. It is that spell which inspired Himmel as a child, who then went on to recruit the companions and then defeat the Demon King together. The spell that truly saved the world was the field of flower, it was the passion and love which inspired others, not the raw pragmatism and killing intent. Hatred lost, and Love won.

Wonderful reaction! I would add one more thing about Serie - You'll notice how her words contradict her actions constantly thus revealing her true nature without having it explicitly pointed out (she chastises Frieren for the flower spell, but has used the same spell to create an entire garden, commenting how she hates taking in human mages under her tutelage but immediately goes on to offer that to Fern etc)

Frieren played it perfectly. Serie's intuition is like magic - based on the subjects' visualization of what is *possible.* By telling Fern and Serie that Fern WILL pass, she shaped their perceptions and ensured it would come true.

Something the english sub completely forgot to translate is when Frieren is moaning in her sleep, she's saying "sorry Fern", and this just after the flashback of Heiter saying Frieren cares about Fern a lot Btw Lernen is the one that made the golem in a bottle, he is just that strong

Yes, so Serie's *suppressed* Mana is equal to Frieren's *entire Mana output* Like I mentioned before. Kraft makes Frieren look young in Elf years. Serie makes *Kraft* look young. Also yes, that moment that Himmel saw the flowers was the moment that he fell in love with Frieren.

We have no idea how old Kraft or Serie are. Kraft remembers the Goddess’s face; it’s entirely possible that he and Serie are contemporaries, or even that he’s older than her.

10:43 - Serie is also suppressing her mana just like Frieren. Also, remember when Flamme was teaching Frieren how to suppress her mana? She said to suppress it into 1/10 of the total amount of her mana. That means Frieren's total amount of mana is just 1/10 of Serie's which is crazy to think about.

17:23 Just to be clear, Serie did mean that Frieren was lucky that she was blessed with strong companions, and that’s what allowed them to defeat the demon king. She said, “Nakama ni meguraretaka? Un ga yokatta na” 仲間に恵まれたか？運が良かったな (So, you were blessed by (strong) companions, huh? You were lucky.) So Frieren replied, “das right, little granny kiddie elf.” ^_^ Edited to fix a mistake with Japanese.

I love seeing Serie sitting in her chair presiding over the first-class mages like Yoda with the council lol. Even after they achieve that level she can still give them lectures on magic theory and show them how to improve. She uses Frieren as a case study on mana suppression and delivers a whole lecture on not letting your guard down. Somebody also would have taught Flamme how to do that and we know Serie was her master, she's lived a lot longer than Frieren has so has that mastered to the point everyone is fooled by her already huge manga pool she has on show.

Speaking of great writing in this episode, there's a hidden thread about the relationship between Fern and Frieren in the episode. The episode starts with Fern mad at Frieren to a point where she doesn't say anything when Richter asks aren't you Frieren's student. And as the episode progresses, Fern grows over it and finally in front of Serie she proudly says I am Frieren's student.

I think that Serie did understand what Frieren meant, i.e., that the defeat of the Demon King depended on all of them being there. I noticed that you had not realized, the first time, the significance of what Serie revealed about her mana so I'm glad you picked up on it in the second time.

Serie's assessment is always fair and correct, the only exception was Frieren, but we could say that was fair too, because she was not judged by human standard for obvious reasons. Obviously Serie is also aware that the certificate is something she created for humans, and has no meaning for Frieren, which is why she used this opportunity to tell her she has a lot of room for improvement still. Also she wanted to take Fern under her own wing cause she values talent over anything else (which is why she trained Flamme as well), she is aware that under Frieren, Fern will live a mostly peaceful life, and not realize her maximum potential, but for them is not as important, Frieren, and Fern are researchers at heart, battle is not the central point. We also now have confirmation that Serie is a different dimension altogether as a mage, it was heavily implied already by Richter on ep20, but there was still the chance that some things were embellished, but they are not. So now the world has gained an incredible safety net, in the past the only reason why Serie couldn't kill the Demon King is because she was unable to visualize a peaceful era, however, now she's been living throught it, so if another demon king shows up, she would be able to kill it this time by imagining to restore those years (even tho she might just not care :D). Serie's mana discussion and interviews might be my favourite part of the show. Absolutely loved them.
