One of the big reasons why Stark was struggling against Linnie was his own lack of self esteem. When he realized that she was using his master's style he just shut down and went "There's no way I can win". But Linnie only copies the technique - no matter how well she copies, her body is still relatively weak compared to an actual warrior. The moment Stark figured it out, it was all over for her. Also, I love how Fern is basically that one guy in fighting games who just spams the basic attack button over and over again until the other guy is dead. Frieren really trained her to be the most annoying opponent ever lol.

Fern only knows like 3 spells for combat, trained with 2 under Frieren. Unlike Frieren who memorized plenty. Which is why Fern is quicker to draw. There's not much thinking, processing the situation going on. Frieren probably learned multiple combat spells and practice with it for at least a thousand years since the time of Flamme till she sealed Qual. Frieren probably started using modded-Zoltraak alongside other spells, as Lugner stated he being hit by modded-Zoltraak, while Aura mentioned Frieren blasted her army with flashy spells. Therefore she took time to figure out which spells works for the situation, even if 90% of situation can be dealt with modded-Zoltraak, she still do this processing unintentionally.

Aura the Guillotine, gets her nickname most likely from the fact that she beheads any of the people she takes control over, thus taking away any of the strong will they could use to resist her magic. These soldiers end up serving her until the moment their bodies can't physically move and crumble, a tragic tale indeed.

The Zoltraak that Freieren and Fern use isn't ordinary offensive magic. Ferien adjusted it to be Demon Killing Magic. Lugner confirmed it last episode. Also the attention to detail in this fight is nuts. Fern only uses her uninjured arm for the entire fight.
@elmariachi2901887 ай бұрын
to my understanding. its not that the zoltraak that frieren and fern use isn't ordinary offensive magic, but Zoltraak was originally a "human killing magic" while Ordinary offensive magic (a revise Zoltraak) is meant to be "demon killing magic". so it is essentially similar but like Lugner said, its hardly can be called zoltraak anymore.
@Stonewielder7 ай бұрын
@@elmariachi290188 You're correct. The ordinary offensive magic Frieren & Fern use is the same spell every human uses but some people, like the person who made the above comment, come to the believe that they're somehow different after watching this episode.

What's so crazy to me about Fern is that she does what she does with something like 10 years of training at most. Obviously Frieren is impressive because she's like bare minimum 1100 years old and been practicing magic basically the whole time - the One Punch Man comparison honestly feels appropriate in a lot of ways. But Fern? She is a 16-year-old human whose magical training was started by a 100ish-year-old recovering alcoholic who wasn't even a mage. It's honestly a good thing she's had such weird, laid-back teachers/adopted parents, because if she were being taught/raised by someone seeking riches and power, she'd be flat-out terrifying.

Fern met Frieren 20 years after the death of Himmel and they met Stark 28 years after the death of Himmel. Heiter became bedridden after 4 years and then died at some point after that. That means Fern had more than 4 years of mage training under Frieren at Heiter's house and then the remainder of the 8 years training under Frieren on their journey.

Frieren and Fern both have their famously neutral expressions during battle. It is both badass and interesting. My supposition is that mind magics are a big part of how both of them operate during combat. So the pain of Fern's injury is walled off and her logical near computer like mode compensates. This wouldn't be unique to this pair, as others also see mana flow and control via imagination, but I can imagine that Frieren has taught Fern a particularly effective system. We do get a bit of internal dialog along with flashbacks, but those analytically deep battle management mindscapes seem to be one of Frieren and Fern's biggest advantages beyond their specialized mana management.

Lugner and Linie are actually my favorite demons so far. It's hard to dislike them other than they oppose the MCs lol. Lugner is really smart and tactical, Linie has knowledge of the people she's met. Plus her fighting style adaptation is cool. Was a fun battle but it showed the two "grunts" they are stronger than they think they are. Specifically Fern. Who demolished him lol.

Frieren beyond journey's end in Japanese is Sōsō no Frieren: Friern the slayer is also Sōsō no Frieren. The Japanese title of this episode Sōsō no Frieren is an excellent play on words that we English people miss (I also was told).

Gaaahh, KZbin ate my comment about all the info and background for the OP song. I even modify and avoid direct links except one... gggaah!!! AFAIK, all YOASOBI songs are story-oriented or story-driven, and "Fanfare for Frieren" is the keyword you need here. You may find a Frieren wiki entry, reddit posts, some fan translation(s?) The Fandom wiki entry is a good start, and I don't think it spoils much or anything (Post-Himmel, pre-Fern). The special short novel "奏送" of "葬送のフリーレン" is for Frieren anime, and on the official anime website. Link in the wiki entry as well, but it got the kanji of the title "奏送" wrong. It's a wordplay on the pronunciation in Japanese. (2nd OP plays on words in Japanese too. The composer/writer n-buna of the duo ヨルシカ (Yorushika) is notoriously(eh?) famous for that. ;] )
