Been using a MiniDSP 8x12 with Dirac Live ..... I HIGHLY recommend it for beginner to intermediate IF you are going to be doing your own tuning as it is somewhat easy to learn ..to be honest I have had several years of using Dirac in my Home Theater .... There is still a learning curve sometimes very steep if you incorporate software tuning like REW or Rephase ... Dirac has , with basic parameter setup, an auto tune that has very impressive results ... The real difference in my system was putting my mids and highs on the dash aimed to the top mid of my headliner ...the stage is now much improved down through the lower mids .. Tuning is really fun to get into if your a audio nerd like me and Im very grateful we now have videos like this to share knowledge and techniques ... Its especially important if you're goal is SQ vs SPL

I was very excited to install a system again after so many years in the car I have now, then I ran into issues.😅 First, the box that I had planned to put in the car doesn't fit the space, I'll probably will have to build a custom box. Second, the speakers I was going to tap into for the LOC, are on the same channel. Anyway, I still enjoy watching these videos.

On a side note: I just bought two mono VXi amps for two vehicles and definitely will eventually be using the DSP once I am ready to put multichannel ones in as well. Other than the usual gain and level/lpf stuff - is there much to gain by having only a subwoofer amp with DSP? So factory radio with a sub amp only.

I'm excited to watch this video, and then continue watching and learning how to install my own system this time. I got a system my whole life. And to be honest I don't know if they've always been installed with the care that you would do for your own. I know that last time I paid a lot of money to have somebody install my JL amp my components JL speakers up front and my 619's in the rear jl and then a Rockford fosgate 360 sound processor. The Bluetooth was not even attempted, and the vehicle that I drive I really do need that I was so frustrated I just let it be and bought a wireless Bluetooth thing a majiggy. And as much as I paid I shouldn't had to have. I have JLC 5 components up front I believe that's the model number which are extremely high-end expensive speakers. I put the lower end c to fix my nines in the rear which are not shitty by any means they're badass still but the components up front are where it really needed to be directed correctly. And I always noticed that most of the power was in the rear and the rear 6x9s. If whoever did it didn't give a flying you know what. So I've since after owning that amp for quite many years. I made a purchase of an XD 700.5 I still hope to use the Rockford fosgate 360 DSP and I don't abuse my system so the components and the 619s should very well be perfectly fine. I have the new amp and I have the DSP mounted where I want them the way that I want them they weren't mounted very well either I couldn't even put my back seat down now I can they're both easily accessible to get to and adjust and whatever I need to do. I emulated the connections from the other amp to this one but I don't know if that's correct so to speak. The component speakers in the front going to the amp connections looks exactly the same as the coaxials in the bag so I don't know if that was correct or not but I plan on learning this and finding out myself. I'm 53, I love my music to sound good my eyes just as good as my bass, and I'm getting older and this one I want done correctly gosh darn it. I want this to be something that I get in my car and I am like holy crap being that I know that I did it right this sounds insane I love music. And I'm without music in my car now I'm using a freaking portable Bluetooth speaker. I feel like that sacrilegious if I were to die right now am I going to get in trouble for that. Lol. So I'm not really in a rush I'm more wanting to do it correctly because if I get this thing installed adjusted correctly this system will be my best system of my life and I'm super excited about that so I'm going to start watching right now if anybody has any advice I'm a strong proponent and tell me what you freaking know Tell me what I should do Tell me what I shouldn't do do you think I shouldn't do this. I'll be honest it's a little bit confusing. I haven't watched these video chat so that's why but my main confusion at this point is I don't even know if you hooked up the component speakers up front correctly to the DSP to the amp. So I get the gist of it I'm going for my factory deck and we're hooking that up to the DSP first to the ends and then we're once that is adjusted correctly I am going to run that signal out to the app where it's going to give it power. Now one of my questions at this point and bear with me if this is too early to ask it I should watch the video first but one of my questions would be so I hook it up to the DSP first and then make my adjustments there. Now it's going into the amp now are we double dipping an adjustments at the amp or are they completely different adjustments. I see the DSP is going to be more of a frequency right like an equalizer and then the amp is going to be basically you're going to do this for power I guess I'm going to watch the videos and find out I appreciate you doing these videos I feel confident knowing that I can learn enough from you from what it sounds like you are very well versed in this I can tell and I feel like maybe I can do this with your help so I want to thank you very much and I'll follow you I'll recommend you you know everything that is good for you I will do

Hey I just wanted to ask how you would go about doing sort of a Watt limiter because my Amplifier can put out more juice then my subwoofer can handle wich is not a problem when I'm using it but when maybe someone else is driving my car and doesn't know this and cranks the volume, the subwoofer will likely will break so that this doesn't happen I want to build a Watt limiter that goes in between the Amplifier and the Subwoofer that limits the maximum throughput to 100Watts

I agree, a video discussing all pass filters. About the AC software though, I'm sorry, but it still sucks. It is better than what the previous version was, so they're moving in the right direction, but I moved on. Got tired of waiting 2 years for a parametric eq and other slopes besides 12/24 and only a Linkwitz-R. I was riddled with issue after issue that was all software based. But props to ACs customer service. Top notch as always.

Because of the issue I had with that piece (99% software) I sold it and bought the Arc Audio PS8-50 at a price I couldn't pass up. Also realized with the head unit I'll be running, I didn't need the 2 extra outputs. I'm beyond happy with the Arc unit.

@CarAudioFabrication Жыл бұрын
Yes. You would only need a two channel Amp and if the passive crossovers allow for three output connections you're good. Do note though that there are many benefits to running active. In which case for a 3 way component set (tweet, mid range, mid bass) you would now need 6 channels

Hello Mark, important question here. Do you set your amps at full pass with frequencies wide open when running your dsp or do you adjust your amp’s accordingling just pass the frequencies on dsp???? I’m all about SQ and wanting to know if adjusting your amp frequencies just past your crossover frequencies on dsp will clean up any unwant noise from the amp. I’m working on a new build and currently do not have a dsp. But I see nobody talking or mentioning this. Is everyone just running there amp frequencies wide open? I’m thinking setting amp frequencies/crossovers just past the dsp crossover settings would give cleaner output rather then just setting amp full pass with lows all the way down and highs all the way up. I know the dsp will cut the extra signal of amp off but still think in terms of theory that also adjusting the amps this way that it could help cut out any unwanted noise especially on the highs. How do you set the frequencies on amp’s when using the dsp?

Back in the day capacitors were treated like a necessity for amp demands. I’ve seen your volcano builds so I assume you know what I mean. (Yes I’m judging but I’m also asking about caps lol.) I never noticed a difference and thought they were a gimmick. I don’t see you using them further suggesting gimmick. Is there a place for them is some situations? SPL maybe? I am about to by a 810 but man there has been a lot of complaints this past year about hissing and software issues Normally they had such an unbelievable reputation. And you would assume that overtime thanks we get better but it seems like unfortunately recently when you go across the Internet on forums people been having a lot of issues. It’s frustrating because if you look hard enough, you can buy an 810 model factory sealed for about 600 bucks or less if you look good enough But the only other route for six in puts or eight inputs and eight outputs, you’re stuck having to buy two separate units from JL audio and now you’re looking at $1000 easily. I’m all for SQ but $1000 without the cost of any speakers are amps is pretty ridiculous Someone Hass to have another DSP outthere that has at least six inputs and 6 to 8 outputs and is logistically legit, except for audio control and JL audio I think focal does have one but it’s $1200 and I think Hertz has one also but I’m not sure on the input side and now you’re looking at I think $800 Sometimes I wonder if I’m better off just getting their lower tier model like the DDX or the DXQ or the DX 61 or whatever the hell they’re called so you don’t have to deal with all the software issues. But I don’t know how good their time alignment is.

You will want to tune on the most powerful device, so even if you have an aftermarket head unit, if you add a DSP you will want to leave all the settings on the head unit flat and turn off time alignment etc there. Do your tuning on the DSP itself. Also important to understand that head units are very limited on what they can do tuning wise. The eq on a head unit is often for the WHOLE system, and not each individual speaker which is FAR more powerful.
