I recently decided to build a bluetooth speaker, my goals were to make it sound great, be portable, have a good amount of bass and natural highs, and to look awesome. I actually ended up building 9 of these! Watch as I build step by step this bluetooth speaker using the Dayton Audio KAB amplifier boards and added lithium ion batteries.

Kudos to you. This kind of sometimes becomes a lost art as far as the design aspect. We all could just buy stuff, but knowing how and why it sounds good is the heart and soul of audio. I'm an old guy still messing with audio and the skills I learned along the way were more than worth the pain. Please keep teaching kids this stuff, it works!!! +1 CAF - Great Video!!

I like the unique shape of the enclosure. I don't think people fully comprehend how much time is involved in designing, routing and laminating all of those components.Even though I wouldn't have taken the time to do is that way, I certainly appreciate the amount of time it took. Fabrication is clearly your passion, and you're doing it right. You keep the raising the bar, and that's really important in my opinion. Kudos to you my man.

I do a lot of CNC routing. One thing that I do that helps with pockets or say your flange for the speakers. You don't really need to pocket the area that is going to be cut out. So I'll draw another circle about .125 inside the area that is going to be cut out and discarded. So that it only pockets the area needed and doesn't waste time pocketing the whole area. It's only a few min but when doing a lot of them. It adds up. Even more so for larger speakers or cutouts with a lip. Also, I use 3d tabs.. This keep the router moving and I don't get the little marks were the router went over the tabs. I've found that about 1.5 inch tab at .22 works great for me. The .22 is because I normally use a .25 bit that takes .25 out on each pass. So .22 is less than that so I only see the tab movement on the last pass. Just food for thought. Good work and I love how clean your shop is. Giving me ideas. ;) Also, I use a oscillating cutter to cut the tabs. No blowout or splintering. For the inside corners you can use dog bones. There is a plug in for fusion that will find and create those for you or you can do it by hand. I like dogbones.. not T-bones.. but that depends on the location and needed.

those specific digital amps are super efficient. i was able to drive a set of speakers with pretty good performance off a 9v battery that was too dead for a smoke detector (just for fun) and its been pretty lasting.

I have made a speaker system at home and it is the best sounding speaker I have ever heard. I have 2 5 1/2 inch woofers 100w each with 2 1 inch tweeters and for the low bass ive got a 15 inch subwoofer running on around 500w and 2 8 inch midbass drivers on 100 each. It is extremely loud but it is the best thing i have ever heard

Interesting build. Needs handles to make it portable an maybe a bedliner. Also how much air space did the amp take up. Did you add the difference to one side? What freq did you tune to?

Considering all of the additional work that went into the cabinet to arrive at a non-box shape, I would have went with a separate tweeter and a higher end set of more efficient speaker drivers which would provide more volume with the same amplifier power. That being said, the speakers are unique and beautiful and sound pretty good on my headphones. Great job.

Very nice dude. Especially likening the darker stained oak not to keen on the really light one kinda cheapens the look of an expensive wood like oak to something more like pine especially if people can't see the difference between hard/soft wood and make judgment based on colour (you wouldn't believe how many people do actually do this) but amazing work man love it

Hi Mark, first absolutely fantastic job! I love the entire channel and am proud to be a subscriber! Every video is very educational and creatively inspiring! I do have a question to follow up - what CAD, CAM, and controller softwares are you using to incorporate the CNC work into the project? The tool path graphics preview of your cut pieces in your CAM software looks super detailed and accurate! I have an older CNC router setup and I am looking to upgrade my user interfaces. Thank you and keep up the amazing work!

If you were to add a carrying handle, what would you have chosen? A simple luggage style running the center depth or one that spans the entire width and is mounted to the sides? (That way it can rotate underneath the bottom of the box and function as an upward prop.)

I want to see you do this but with larger drivers. The fabrication is absolutely exquisite (as it is with everything you do!), but it seems like overkill for such small speakers, even with a ported enclosure. I could be wrong though, maybe it does require that much airspace?

It would have made more sense to have the bottom plate removable than the front panel to avoid those screw holes. It would also have made more sense just to make it from square sheets rather than glueing all that mdf, or build with a few extra panels and reshape to get the curves

Excellent build! Not as if you need to be told though. I only feel compelled to comment because of the thumbs down and negative comments. I also have wanted to do something like this and in the past actually have. My build was way overkill in the amplifier which led to poor battery performance. A project like this takes a lot of design consideration and may require sacrifices in areas to accomplish the end result. It’s real easy to to be critical especially when you have limited real experience. I feel that is the case here. Everything about this build is top notch. This guy is an epitome of the new “maker”. He took an idea and set a goal. He then made that idea come to life through design in CAD, CNC,3D printing, and wood working. Oh...he also filmed it to spread the knowledge! So you delusional idiots should keep your comments to yourself. You only make yourself look ridiculous.
