Caravan Buying, You need to do this soon

Our next door neighbours have just bought a caravan having said no we’re done with it, we’ll book self catering. Like us they’ve had really expensive disappointing cottages. There’s nothing like having all your own things around you. Knowing that the bed will be comfortable etc. Yes you’ve got the initial layout for the van but the benefits after that are so worth it. We can go wherever we like whenever we want to.

Yes Mark, once you have bought a caravan, it’s still a cheap holiday if you want it to be.

Yes Mark DEFINITELY CHEAPER using your own caravan. We’ve just had a week away on a handstanding pitch at a lovely site with clubhouse, great facilities etc. cost me £255. A static at the same place £900 for the same week 😮

But how much does your caravan cost you? Factor in the storage cost and depreciation etc I bet the cost is much closer than you think

@@richtea7868 I keep my van at home so storage is nothing. Depreciation defo outweighs the cost of 5 holidays in a lodge or static per year over using our own van.

And you can use your caravan next month for another trip and then a week in Scotland etc etc. If you hire a lodge, or a static, or even go to an hotel, you may remember it but that money has GONE... But you'd still have your caravan for other trips later, AND next year AND the year after ...

​​@@Jase73I have just been using my caravan, parked on the drive with EHU as usual and with the water tap 10 feet away, because our home central heating pump stopped working 2 weeks ago. Not a problem for the temperature as it's 20C in the hallway downstairs at this time of year. But no hot water. Been able to walk out a few paces for a perfectly hot shower in the caravan! Just about to pack up now after a long weekend with the caravan at a THS in Leyburn (£10 per unit, per night for a lovely spot). Then setting off for home where son-and-heir was holding the fort whilst the heating engineer visited on Thursday to replace the pump which had to be ordered specially. He tells me the heating is now working again.. !The caravan is therefore also a spare room on the driveway and an extra shower/bathroom in case of emergencies, too ...

Sites have gone up on sites but so have holiday homes, flights, static caravans so it’s all relative Caravans are cheaper

Bought a holiday in Cyprus for 8 nights at £1190. Their accomodation, their food (half board) flights and transfers all included. I think caravanning to Spain or similar climate would be a lot more expensive in travel costs alone before you put food on the table. But I understand some people want their home comodities while away so makes sense for some. Our caravan sits in storage and rarely being used any more since pitch prices went up.

You've got to work it out and see if caravanning is cheaper for you. It's no good buying a new van over £30k and using it twice a year. Storage fees £400. Service £300 . Insurance £300-400. So there's over £1000 before you start. That's a nice week in a nice spec static in peak season. Just been looking at an example finance plan for the new sprite exclusive grande fb and it's £33k and will cost you (.after a 10% deposit) £400 a month for 10 years. You've got to way it up.

Hi , changed our caravan yesterday to a lunar Venus and the shower is unlined - are you able to tell me what this means please? Walls are textured and not white and shiny so as daft as it sounds will it be waterproof?

Yes the panels are a waterproof board, so even though not plastic they are OK to get wet. Most vans used to be like this. 👍

Caravans are finished shame but it's the truth no one wants them any more caravan parks are shite and expensive to go in clubhouse even charge ya to go in

i use a premier caravan site with no clubhouse.....bit like choosing Centre Parc over Butlins. The people staying at the site recognise quality care provided by tve private site owners.
