Caravan Jacking Procedure

Hi Folks today I take a look at Jacking up the Caravan Safely to Change a wheel. I also explain the weaknesses of the Caravan Chassis and how to over come this issue. Thanks Phil.

Good bit of advice . Having experienced others trying this is not easy. I have the the same bottle jack but make sure other wheel is chocked as an extra precaution along with the handbrake.

Hi Thanks for the advice. I did chock the wheel when fitting the Shocks the other day. I did not mention the chock in case someone is changing on the road. I would not encourage stepping into a live lane. Thanks Phil:)

Hi Paul. This is a great and safe way to jack the van. Avoid the lighter version this is a better jack and is much stronger. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Hello Phil, if I am not mistaken I think you need to have the car and caravan hitched together otherwise the caravan can tend to try and turn and then the Jack will become unstable, I am pretty sure that’s correct, this is just in case someone tried to change their wheel in there storage yard or something like that before they have their car hitch up, 👍.

@@M..R.... yes I did catch that he did say that, I was just pointing out that if someone tried to Jack there caravan without it being hitched to the car that it could be a problem for them. Cheers 👍.

Hi. Yes I was assuming as I could not hitch up and jack it up completely as the space between the vans at the Storage yard was too close. The jacking system used works really well. I used it to add shocks to the van last we week. I hope this clears things up. many Thanks Phil👍🙂

Mine came with alcohol jack and locating points I only found this out after watching your video lol as I didn't know I had one😂😂😂

Valuable information Phil, I have the previous Kojack which is a scissor jack. They are robust products.

Hi Colin. I had that version but found it not strong enough to carry the vans weight. I do believe that are for lighter Caravans. Pleased with this one i used to add shocks to the van last week and it worked a treat. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Hi Phil, Hope you didn’t get under the caravan whilst it was jacked up. Definitely not a good idea. Bottle jacks (and scissor jack) can occasionally fail trapping or even killing the person underneath.

I’ve got an alko chassis 2022…on an Eriba 320….it hasn’t got these holes and my Reich mover obscures that position ..

Hi Gris. Thats a shame maybe the Eriba Chassis are set different than the standard Caravans. You could speak to your Dealer regarding this. They suggest drilling the holes out but I would check first. Also check your handbook as there maybe an alternative jacking point. Thanks Phil.🙂👍

And if i found out i could get my stand under the axle my life could be rosy..win win instead of just a win. At the moment ive got two Fiamma plastic ramps.for levelling,which could give me fun and games upon induction..

What about caravans with AWD motor movers. Is this kind of jacking system compatible as space is a premium.

The link provided for the item takes you to a Kojack jack for a single axle caravan. Searching on Amazon brought up the twin axle version where one of the reviews states it didnt fit his twin axle with 4 movers and drilling more holes in the chassis isn't an option as that would compromise chassis strength

@@M..R.... thought so. Thanks. 99% of twin axle vans have movers so it’s back to the trolley Jack under the nearest available space on the frame.

HI Mark. If you mean lifting the Caravan? I decided not to do this as my neighbours van had been parked too close to mine at the time of filming. I have used the jack to fit shocks to the van. Plus I did assume most folk know how to remove a wheel. I hope this clears up your question. Many thanks Phil. 👍🙂
