Fitting Alko Secure and Alko Hitch Lock on a Twin Axle Caravan

This video is about how to it Alko Secure and an Alko hitch lock to a Twin Axle Caravan
1. Position Front Lock
2. Remove yellow cap
3. Set Lock up
4. Position lock in the hole
5. Tighten the bolt up
6. Use key to retract ball bearings then insert lock into the hole
8. Chock wheels
9. Lift caravan up on the jack
10. Realease Handbrake on Caravan
11. Position rear wheel
12. Put handbrake back on
13. Take jack back down

Great demo - we collect our new double axle caravan tomorrow and were at a loss to how we would fit the double wheel lock (having had a single axle for 10 years). Applying both locks is an insurance condition whilst it's in storage so this was very helpful indeed. Thanks!

I successfully fitted both locks - the first attempt was a bit botched, but when I positioned the jack correctly (it wasn't positioned right 1st time!) I had no problems. As you say, probably a 10/15 min job

We’ve had our twin axle for 3 years in November and the first time it took half an hour!! But now it takes 10 minutes. Like I say look at s lock n level. I may get one... anyway happy holidaying with your new van. Cheers Oliver

Yes - the lock n level looks good, but doesn't save much time I think for fitting the rear axle alko lock. Not been away in our new double axle yet, so will review how easy it is to level the van on a wedge. If inordinately difficult, maybe the lock n level will be good. If it's just for the alko lock issue though, I'll probably stay with the jack system

Hi Alan, if you have the same jack as us, it’s a common problem that the end of the jack snaps! Not to worry you can just reweld it! Cheers Oliver

Great video Oliver, we have just purchased a twin axle and the handover was a bit rushed especially around the wheel locks. Your explanation was was a lot clearer and made it look a lot simpler than when the guy was explaining it. What would be helpful is if you could do a video on levelling a twin axle and then fitting the locks. Many thanks Jonathan (the caravan at Longleat Tourerfest without a tv aerial and just a "stick")

Hi Brian, this is a little bit more difficult. I would reccomend a product called a lock n level or using a bottle jack on the chassis. I hope that helps, Oliver

our van is insured without a wheel lock... cost £50 more to insure but couldn't be doing with all this messing about. Will still use nemesis ultra wheel clamps but they are no longer recognized as a secure wheel lock. Locks only stop honest people!

Always smear a little grease on the male and female side of the lock to prevent seizure of the lock especially if the van is lying for a long period over the winter

Hi, firstly sorry for the late reply, must have missed your comment. The Alko jack has specific mounts which the jack go into and you only get those with the jack. It isn’t recommended to use a car jack on a caravan. If you want more info I’d speak withAlko directly. Thanks for watching, Oliver.

It’s a pain in the butt fitting on a single axle, I’m just getting used to lining up the wheel, before I put steady’s down. Took me a few trips out to realise though. It’s still a pain on a ramp though 🙄

We have a twin axle with alko locks I ended up buying a cheap trolley jack and the Alko one got on my nervous 😂

Unfortunately no. The previous owner lost them and they are 10 year old locks. I always spray them with grease. Our new caravans lock does though! Cheers Oliver

Seems a lot of steps. My method is as follows: Leave it attached to the car, chock the epposite wheels and jack both nearside wheels off the ground with, my trolly jack using the rear jacking point. Align both wheels at the same time, clamps on, jack down, unhitch, job done in one go.
