4:18 - I meant to say during the chorus of Melancolia, not the second half. 5:46 - Meant to say the verses here, not the chorus. Also, 12:51 - just noticed I combined the words "bombastic" and "bodacious" without even realising it...bombacious, anyone? 😅

I love this review! You hit a lot of the same points I did and you seem to appreciate the more experimental tracks on the album too. I do think this album is a genuine masterpiece and I did make a video on it too.

Avalanches really is my personal favorite. On my first listen I was like “ehhh..” but the male vocals that come in at 2:14 and then the “best drop” is just such ear candy. Especially when Zoe comes in and says “bright” (I think that’s she’s saying) and reverse is also my favorite, it really just makes you want to get up and dance

I personally really didn't like Chronologic, it felt a bit watered-down for a Caravan Palace release. This one brought my hope back When it comes to City Cook, I think the main draw (for me at least) is just how strong of a pull the beat has. On top of that, the feeling behind the song is pretty nuanced, almost a song of hope and recovery.

Ay nice credits and added poster. My little thoughts on.. the stuff... ive mostly only really listened to the singles before this video 1. Yeah it does have a quite jazzy instrument sound but not really jazzy motion to it 2. These 2 first ones didnt hit for me, like they were nice and catch but I felt they missed another layer of sound to really bring me into it, it felt external How would say spell the name of the person from the sample? but interesting 3. The teaser for this one was awesome, and so is this, so unique and excellent, thats more like it... ooh the vibes, it does like a lot of jazz songs that sound sinister and then leads up to a lighter dance bit heh... oh yes (some parts remind me of jetpack joyride music for some reason lol) the comment I left on the video before was "Ooooh instant classic, different CP song vibes mixed into this one such unique sound I dont think I could experience with any other musicians" and they hearted it 4. Now first one I hadn't even heard. 7:12 I raccoon? eheh.. Oh wow, its quite a bit Parov Stelar, its got a groovy weight, and he mixes in quite a bit of blues and such (google even calls him rock and not eswing), also similar rough and gibberish vocals, and brass. Quick example I found is "The Ride" and "Monster" by him. Its interesting how they switch at the middle yeah 5. Hadn't heard this one either. Mixing vocals of the beautiful vocals of "April" with vocal jazz and quartets like the Chordettes, especially the lyrics reminds me of Ella Fitzgerald stuff. Ive never heard such a gentle mix of this style of jazz and lofi sounds, they blend into each other with this windy sound. Closest I cant think of is Nujabes, one of the most influential and beautiful sounding hip hop musicians, but its still quite different, I dont think as good but still wonderful. Ah now the lyrics and quartet sound makes sense, I thought it might be an older song, notably the mention of sycamore hehe 6. I thought the vocals in this and mirrors went against the music at first, didnt really do it for me, but I think over time when you get used to it, it brings some more interest to the song. This one really connects, its got that feeling from and Chronologic that I loved so much, particularly Russian vibes id say, but still different also thanks to that brass intro, I love it a lot, shivers worthy 7. Same this one hit right away as what I was waiting for, something special, and oooh blues and carousel vibes together its an incredible combo, one of my favorites wow 8. I heard your clean version hehe, thanks for it btw. Its electronic but yeah its got that melodic sway, and a quartet sound again, feels maybe even more jazzy that way than some of the songs with brass 9. I kinda agree. Its like a Smokey Joe and the Kid song, kinda messy, but the electronics here hit less hard. Its also got that frequency of electro or brass that hurts my ears. I like the rise bit in the middle tho, but prob my least favorite so far (when I rechecked the song list I forgot this one so yeah pretty passable for me lol) 10. Oh I actually recognize the previous version this time, its so nice and chill, wonderful again. I like their ventures into swing/jazz hop so far 11. Sounds like a simple song, nothing too special for CP but still enjoyable. I dont get the excitement, but it is catchy 12. Oh I recognized this from the chill mix a lot as well. Wow, beautiful, the Fargo of this album for me, just instant peace, a deep breath, very nice. I thought she was saying: "oui", turns out its "sweet" heh If they dont listen to CP, are they really friends ;P, But yeah I can see what you mean it seems like a good intro Overall for a CP album, its quite good, but I feel its missing those real bangers, like the hard dance songs are less polished in this one and thats those I listen to the most cause I keep my favorite darker vibe songs for special moments (Midnight and Fool for example). ...dang now that I think of it the other ones only have a couple bangers each and this has Raccoons, hard I tell ya I became a fan soon before chronologic so all the albums kinda blend when I compare, instinctively I would say this is not near the top but I also think it adds a nice amount... its really hard to tell... but despite my criticism def not a disappointment, it brings me joy. It has an identity I spent all day on and off listening to the songs and watching the video hehe, and now its night, thanks and good day!

Good to hear your take! ☺️ I think I largely share your opinion on a lot of it. Instinctively, I initially put this as my second favourite after but after going back and relistening to that album, I'd say it's about on par now. Regarding the sampled vocal chops on Mirrors, the sampled track is called "Little Girl, Little Girl" by Ora Dell Graham. As for Avalanches, I believe the only sampled parts were the "Baby Won't You Fall In Love With Me" lyrics, so the thing with the sycamore seems to be a Caravan Palace original which is pretty inspired ☺️
