I think the only reason the orginal is so different is because her whisper is louder than the instruments on the recording. It's impossible to whisper on the stage with such an ensemble.

In that, they can finely control the balance, loudness, and general tone of her singing. On stage, they couldn't realistically do that live with all the other instruments also being picked up by her mic.

bands will inevitably sound different live, in the case of bands like kasabian or gorillaz they are better live than in studio but caravan Palace you can't belive are even playing live becuase their composition is so complex and makes full use of the diverse number of instruments but sticks to the style of electroswing its something to behold

Well of course it sounds different. Listen closely to the chorus on the recorded version, there are like 3 different voice tracks playing simultaneously in there, each of them doing its own thing. Here you get just one voice attempting its best to do something similar.
