Good tip for caravan security. Stick some numbers on your caravan roof. The sort you can buy for wheely bins will do the job. The reason for this is my brother in law used to be a police observer on helicopters and very often asked to look for stolen caravans. He found it very frustrating looking down from a helicopter for stolen vans as from the air they all look the same. So with some numbers or letters stuck onto the caravan roof should makes identifying the stolen caravan easy. Then identified caravans can have information passed to police units on the ground. Then your might get your caravan back. Cheap & simple idea

I have the Milenco version of this, it doesn’t need the hex bolt as it is molded into the part that you secure to the leg winder. The grub screw will come loose unless you use some threadweld to secure it, you can still get it off but it won’t fall off and by having a fixed hex you won’t lose that hex insert. I’m not sure the leg locks are that great but it’s another thing to delay if only fir a while.

Great Film Dan. We are just looking about at present for extra caravan security. Like Martin we like the Steady lock. Thanks Juliet and Phil

I keep my attachments to take off the locks in my house then take them with me when I go to storage. The corner steady locks take 2 seconds to take off with a lump hammer and the wheel lock is useless because they will drive off with it attached as they don't care if it damages the van. The hitch lock just gets bypassed with a scaffolding tube and u shaped clamps. The best lock is the alko that you pointed out and on a twin axle you only need one as you don't get any more money off your insurance for having two. I have the alko and two other wheel locks and a hitch lock and if my caravan goes walkies then they can keep it as I don't want to sleep in something some thief has been using plus the police are two scared to retrieve your van from said thief or thieves. Great review and I'm looking forward to the next. 👍🏻

We are lucky as our caravan is yellow and most of the security devices match well. Thanks Dan for the great video. Rod & Julie.

Another top quality video there Dan. Seen your article in Practical Caravan. I've got my next caravan video coming up. I'm picking it up tomorrow from where I had it serviced.

Like most caravan owners I have all the gear. Phantom Tracker, Maypole hitch lock and Alko wheel lock, but if my caravan (our second home) ever got stolen by those types that steal caravans I would never want to see it again. But like you I have all the deterrents in place.

Robert Stafford I'm the same in regard to not wanting it back if it was stolen. I draw the line therefore on trackers. I'm not paying hundreds to track it when stolen, so I get it back and the insurers pay out minimum if anything. I've insured it, I'm going to insure it for the insurers as well!

Hi there I'm the same if my van is stolen I wouldn't want it back as u don't know what been done to it and who's been living in it so if it stolen they can keep it so trackers a no go cheers,kev

For me the Phantom tracker came with the Caravan when I bought it. However, I will not be renewing the subscription when it expires.
@Robert.S4596 жыл бұрын
As I said to Kev I will not renew. Sorry that your Vlog has been hijacked a little Dan but caravan theft is an emotive subject. All we can do is make it a little harder so they will look elsewhere.

Hi Dan, on the hitch lock if you're drive with it on, you're not able to put the hitch stabilise on, as the arm can not come down enough for it to do it's job.

I've got the purple line ultra wheel lock which is Thatcham approved to cat 3 works in a similar way to that maypole 1 you reviewed but easier to install and looks a lot more robust.
@robforrest127396 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the Maypole one looked a bit ‘weedy’ and easily breakable/bendable. I have a Nemesis Ultra on the one side and AlKo on the other.

Sure, no problem. Man walks into a bar, screams and shouts - "Who put that there - that really hurt"
@garryclayton20016 жыл бұрын
I like those corner stay locks but I could quite easily prise those off with a hefty screw driver, but it you just took them off again and drilled a very shallow hole were the Allen grub screws have marked the hex head, you'd then really struggle to get them off.
@TheTrudgians6 жыл бұрын
i thought exactly the same. and there may be a modification to be had here - was thinking of threading an M2 bolt into the shaft. Will play with the idea and get back to you. Dan
@edwardcharles97646 жыл бұрын
Garry Clayton better still would be to drill through the bolt head and hammer in a tapered pin, doing away with the grub screw completely.
