You would need to hold a C1 provisional licence for the hack to be legal.

I believe you can apply free to the dvla with a D2 form for the provisional license to be added to your license if passed after 1997.

I'm afraid to say Mark, but I have to echo others' comments on your 'hack'. I also have to add that it takes on the traditional UK meaning of the word 'hack' (i.e., a botched job) and not the American usage of the word which means a 'useful method or way of doing things'. Messing around with loopholes in the law is a certain way of getting one into a lot of bother, if not trouble, and far from being a proper and appropriate solution is at best a short-term method of driving the motorhome off of the courtyard to its new home. Nevertheless, it is not as simple a solution as you suggest. Regardless, I appreciate that you are always kindly trying to find a way for people to be able to enjoy leisure vehicles and that is to be commended. Even if you, like the rest of us, sometimes get things wrong, if only slightly wrong.

Definitely a hack lol. Had chance to read through and your spot on. Obviously a normal car licence you can do it with a car, as you have already passed the license, but the C1 is different, if you have the entitlement it doesn't mean you have passed the test. But if you have passed the test then it is possible to use the hack. But not on motorways is how I read it? So even with L plates with someone who has passed the C1 test, it's not a very practical solution. Thanks for your input 👍

Sorry to disagree Mark, but your hack doesn’t work I’m afraid. To supervise a learner in such a vehicle, you need to have passed the C or C1 test and held the category for 3 years. Those with ‘grandfather rights’ aren’t allowed to supervise learners (Gov.uk website explains this). As has been said, the learner will also need C1 provisional category on their licence. This need them to sit a medical, so not entirely free. Keep up the good work👍
