Yep... we used to mix and match balance tubes as well as teach pilots this process... I always fly with 1/3 or more carb heat and it drops things level across all cylinders in my PPONK......

Another way to improve fuel atomization once you reach wide open throttle (WOT) is to close the throttle slightly to cock the throttle plate into the airflow creating a slight turbulence in the airstream. I find that the delta between cylinder temps will balance better.

My Texas Skyways says to close the throttle just a hair to cause turbulence at the butterfly also to improve atomization. I'd love to know if that also improves it and if the two in combination is even better.

Sorry I added my comment before I read your comment. The only time this makes a difference is at wide open throttle.

@@keysflying4787 Right, that's exactly what I'm wondering. I am WOT at cruise when I'm 8500 feet. I'd love to see the effect on EGTs, but I don't have a very good EGTs system like this one.

I have an O470r in my 182p and while many say EGT temps dont really matter but my A&P wants me to keep it under 1400. My plane tends to settle out at 1375/375 and 13 GPH give or take a bit. I know I can lean it more but when I see the egt getting into the 1450 range I freak out and enrichen. Your way higher on EGT than mine and curious if you have a max temp you try an avoid. I have a CGR30P and always have a bot of carb heat on to keep my carb temp around 5C. I do see very low deltas on my EGT and CHT and maybe its because I am using carb heat most of the time as well

1600 is where my egt alert starts flashing. I usually stay around 14-1500 ish but EGT isn’t a controlling factor for me. CHT is and I only get close to 370-380 in the AZ summers during climb out
