@@DriveMX5 I just finished installing mine. I saw no reason at all to cut the stock grill. All it would do is leave a cantilevered sheet of plastic hanging out there under the emblem area that would provide no real support.

Install tip. At the :43 second point of the video. Notice the 2 metallic tabs coming off the bumper that are UNDER the forward cover. When reinstalling the bumper make you get those tabs UNDER the cover before reinstalling all hardware. I missed that and realized the only way to fix it was to take all the hardware out and pop one side of the bumper completely loose again.

It might be easier to remove the DRL part from the bumper. Kinda hard to pop out some of the cable retainers.

Hey around 3:30-4:09, you can see the screws/nuts with 3 "tails" on the top and bottom of the bumper. Do you know what their name is and how to get them off?

The silver ones? I believe I see the ones you’re talking about. Those are a type of rivet, they need to be drilled out and replaced. You could try and undo them with some needle nose pliers but I don’t think that would be successful.

Now that it's been a year, can you give an update? Any issues with clips or fasteners coming undone, grill cracking or breaking from impacts, black finish coming off - anything at all? Any regrets? I'm asking because I plan to eventually install the lighted version of this grille. Did you consider the lighted one at all in your decision? If so, why did you choose this one instead? Thanks!

Good questions, we have not had any issues so far! I can’t remember on this car, but I know on mine the only thing I can say is that the Spyder grille likes to pop off the tabs in the bumper so it sits a bit loose, but it won’t fall out and doesn’t rattle around or anything. I’d still recommend and buy it again. We personally didn’t like the look of the lighted one as much as this, it was just a personal preference

i went with a zunsport track grille on mine im not confident with cutting a plastic trim on mine so i just went on with it

It provides more cooling since half of it isn’t solid and blocking the radiator. The Cup Cars use them for that reason I believe. Other than that just aesthetics. I wouldn’t say the cooling is a necessary benefit for the vast majority of people. I installed it because we just liked how it looks!

Is this grill lighter (without OEM support put back) than OEM one?

It’s probably a bit lighter, but I haven’t weighed them or tried to find the info online. The OEM one without support is a couple pounds at most so it’s not a big difference.

You don't HAVE to, but it definitely makes it easier to get under the bumper and remove some of the clips and bolts for the splash shields. But can definitely be done with the car on the ground!

How do you get the pop rivets out?

Flat head screwdriver. Place the tip in that little slot on the pop rivet and pry the center section of the rivet out from the rest, then pull the entire thing out

I agree! I’ve ordered from them before and it took quite a long time, and have heard the same from others. We got this one on Facebook Marketplace actually, brand new just opened the box for pictures. GoodWin Racing usually has some in stock in the US so shipping time is a week or less, but they are more expensive than ordering from Carbon Miata

I have not personally noticed it yet, our cars are mostly street driven, but this is the same grille that the Global MX-5 Cup Cars use and they do so for better airflow. Thanks for the vid. Yeah it definitely looks better than the original BUT, the pattern is far from being as aggressive as the grill from the Cx5. The pattern is form by little arrows looking down instead of honey combs. Also it is pushed to the inside. I bet u know all that but I need to say it. Cx5 grill is the most amazing one I’ve seen in a car and the their sport car didn’t come with it. Whyyyy

I did want to mention that the stock OEM grill top part does seem to protect the bumper, and leaving it off could be a bad thing. @@K4BOOMSH4K4L4K4 thank you! This is good information to share. While it’s the first I’ve seen or heard of damage like this occurring, it’s still a possibility. I haven’t had any issues with this car or another one where I did not re-use the top part of the OEM grille. But doing so could be cheap assurance that you don’t have to replace the bumper later

Stock grill is 1/2 blocked. If all you are worried about is looks then stick with what you have. If you do aggressive driving in high temps then increasing airflow by nearly 100% makes a lot sense. I'd suggest doing an oil cooler at the same time. I ran Palomar Mountain today in over 100 degree heat. There were six cars going up together. 1 overheated and had to pull over for a few minutes before making it to the top. Another never made it to the top because he blew the top off his radiator. Another made it to the top but was pissing coolant when he got there. This not a cosmetic/appearance mod.
