Those rods are going to kill me if I have an accidental front crash

That's just an assumption. Before the rods losen up and travel towards the rider, the ball mounting will break and move the Rods to sides. That's how it is designed

Oh my goodness, the rods will stab you if you hit something. That mount system is aweful.
