All DT - I'm moving away from an XM1501 set (28 spokes on a 29er are not sufficient) and moving to the older 240s and EX511 with 32 J-bend spokes.

Nice man. I think you’re right about the ante-up to more spokes. There’s a reason why DT was resistant to making a straight pull flange and why King still doesn’t. Obviously DT caved on that.

I have the roval traverse carbon rim, I've heard good things about enve rims, what's the difference between the two?

I have never personally had trouble with the wheels you're riding. I've even pinged them on rocks! The main complaint with Enve in the past has been constantly breaking spokes. Not sure where they stand now.

i9 has not impressed me. seen too many early failures compared to the cost. if you are paying high end money it should hold up better. broken axles or cracked flanges. freehub bearings exploding.

That's not great for building a reputation. But culture seems to drift that direction. But who's asking the mechanic how they'd build their own wheels? 1% of customers. i9's marketing team has definitely paid off for them.
