Looking for a great place to practice wildlife photography in Calgary? Look no further than Carburn Park! In this video, I'll take you on a birding adventure through the park, where we'll encounter a variety of feathered friends.
One highlight of my trip was seeing waterfowl, including bufflehead and redhead ducks. These stunning birds are a treat to watch as they swim and dive in the Bow River.
We also spotted several forest birds, including the northern flicker. As the spring season begins, these birds are starting to exhibit territorial behavior, which is always an exciting and hilarious sight to see.
Whether you're an experienced birder or just looking for a peaceful nature walk, Carburn Park is a fantastic spot to explore. Join us on our adventure and see the beauty of these birds for yourself!

Sooner for some than others 😅-if we can avoid May snowfall, I'll be happy. Alberta weather is nuts!

Carburn is by far my favourite park in Calgary for winter birding! Can’t beat the diversity there anywhere else in Alberta during winter.

It's definitely my go to when I want to guarantee seeing something ... Seeing harlequins there was a first for me this winter. Maybe I'll catch you out there sometime! Cheers

Another beautiful video, with cute woodpeckers and a wide variety of ducks. The signs of spring in the air seem amazing to me, conditions like this would be a tragedy here, snow doesn't even fall in winter! except once every 50 years a small snowfall.

It was an optimistic take ... We had a 2-week cold snap after although things are finally warming up!

Thank you so much for taking us on this morning trip. I really needed to see something that beautiful this evening. I hope you get no more cold spells. It must be very taxing on the animals, especially the newly arrived migrants. Over here in Portugal, some swallows now arrive earlier, since February has been rather mild in the past few years, but now a cold snap brought winter temperatures and I hope it won't cause any problems to the birds that may have started laying eggs. Of course our winter temperatures are nothing next to the Canadian ones. Your birds would find our winter very 'summery', I'm sure. Can cold snaps in spring cause serious problems for migrants in Canada? Especially if it means more snow and re-iced over waterways.

Thanks for watching! Inclement / extreme weather definitely cause mortality or otherwise stress birds - but on the other hand their resiliency is incredible - particularly our waterfowl which are the earliest migrants.

Hello Sean,i really liked your video and you know a lot of the birding life.Yes who are the hibernants and who are the migrants. For some species it is clear but a few migrant species hibernate in my nature reserve and depends on how mild the winter is i guess. There are some who move only a couple of hundred kilometers and come back fast when the temperature rises. Thanks for showing this interesting video!! Greetings Gijs

Hello Gijs. That is interesting - and it's an interesting question. I guess that's why people band birds (or put transmitters on them)! But I am ready for the definitive migrants - flycatchers and martins - that overwintered in south America! Only a few months now!!!
