I woke up to this sound, almost every day, while living on a small farm orchard in Southern Oregon. I also remember the mourning doves lining the telephone wires with their sad calls. 🎉

Nebraska state bird, and my personal favorite of all bird songs. This is the sound of my wonderful childhood, raised on my grandparent’s Nebraska farm. There’s no other place like it. 🌻💕

As a young boy growing up in Kern County Cal. I can still remember the very last time hearing this wonderful bird call on a fence. They all disappeared due to housing construction. Thats was 60 years ago and I have not heard this bird since. So sad...

They are still a common bird out here, fortunately, at least in certain areas like the bear river bird refuge and Antelope Island.

💕💜🌾this song reminds me of pushing through the fields of golden wheat, and falling down to the ground for rest, hidden by the tall stalks, dreaming, breathing and listening to this sound…🫠🥰

I saw and heard this bird today at work. I remember it had a yellow stomach and black lines, but I didn't take a good look at the wings. The voice was enough to confirm it. Beautiful sounds.

The Western meadowlark is one of favorite bird calls here in New Mexico. Another striking song is completely different that I heard yesterday in central Kansas at the Quivira NWR was the Bell's vireo. I never saw it cuz it stays hidden in brush usually. Best to see them early morning probably.

@michaeldeierhoi40962 жыл бұрын
@@Battleforabilliondollars They are fairly common at the Valle de Oro in the South Valley, Albuquerque. And also Bosque del Apache. Meadowlarks like open grasslands.

Anyone have any tips for attracting these birds? They’re known for eating a pests’ eggs (Mormon crickets)around here so I want to put up houses or watering point to attract them to my farm. I know they generally like ground level watering points but they lay their eggs on the ground, so a bird house won’t work, I don’t think…
@BearRiverBlogger2 жыл бұрын
They are ground nester that like open areas with short sparse grasses. I've never seen any come to bird feeders so I'm not sure how easy they would be to attract.
@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta2 жыл бұрын
I've read that if they do visit bird feeders the food needs to be cracked corn and on a flat open platform near an open field and away from humans. Since they like sitting on fence posts, barb wire and electric lines, perhaps a flat feeder on a high fence post would work ...

@@BearRiverBlogger I noticed a difference too. The meadowlarks here in New Mexico usually do the second song on this video. I had never heard them do the first couple songs here.
