2017 BMW X1 Unboxing - We Found The (Almost) Perfect Luxury Crossover

For today's unboxing review we bring you the 2017 BMW X1 xDrive28i. This is the second generation X1, which hit the market for 2015. Aside from being bigger inside and out than its predecessor, the new X1 is more luxurious and, above all, is built on a front-wheel-drive platform, not a rear-wheel-drive one. Is this a good thing? Depends on whom you ask. Driving and BMW enthusiasts will argue the RWD platform is better, but mainstream buyers typically prefer FWD, one reason being is that it's more fuel efficient.
But our X1 tester came equipped with the German automaker's AWD system, called xDrive, so it does have the ability to do some minor off-roading and, overall, has better grip than the standard FWD version. AWD is a $2,000 option but we think it's worth it. What impressed us the most about the X1, however, is its rear seat; it's surprisingly spacious and very comfortable. Up front, the driver is treated to even more luxury and attention to detail. Point being is that BMW did its homework here and has delivered an excellent all-around compact luxury crossover. Still though, we do miss RWD. Enjoy the review!

Oh yeah, without question BMW did a nice job here. But the previous X1 was cool because it wasn't so, well, richy suburban soccer mom with a vodka habit. Point being, the first gen X1, despite being less room inside, was more fun to drive and geared more towards enthusiasts as opposed to the mainstream.

Problem with BMW is that due to the numerous options available it’s almost impossible to get a standard spec car. So you go test two 2nd hand cars and they can seem totally different even though in theory same original spec. Front wheel drive to be used on smaller BM’s 1and2 series based but not on all other models. Hope to be picking up a 2019 X1 diesel this weekend. X drive so predominantly FWD but 4 wheel when needed

CORRECTION: Sport setting in the X1 does not tighten up suspension. Also, the M suspension is not standard in the X1. The vehicle your showing does not have the M Package.

I own 2016 BMW X1. 0-60 in 6.4 sec... It has more interior space than any other SUV in this segment. The only downside is Road noise because of s**t Pirelli Tires.

Yeah, I've heard from a few others about too much road noise due to the tires. Have you thought about replacing those tires?

The road noise is really too much on freeway at times. The run flat tires may be the culprit.

I have a 135i... lots of road noise from the original run flats, changed to normals and it's much better.

How often do you use fog lights? And I mean in fog not just like some do as extra illumination. For all the years I’ve been driving fog lights are almost the least used item on any car I’ve had ( UK based) and that includes when I was a sales rep on the road every day

Often the auto boxes are more economical theses days, in Europe the diesel models are big sellers and auto boxes work really well on diesels

X1's also come as AWD vehicles, built on an FWD platform (the version he showed was an XDrive version). This video might have been a bit misleading in that regard.

Yeah, the M Sport Package does make the cars look cooler, but the adaptive dampers aren't for everyone.

Do not buy very low quality and very poor service. I owned X1 3.5 years actually BMW should give me brand new car for free. Just could you imagine statistically I was 2 times per month to repair or replace. Haha this a empty batch.

My 2016 x1 has 43k currently and hasn’t had a single issue except a hose that got a leak which was a quick fix

you buy an x1 because you can't buy an x5, because you can't afford it. but in that case you better off getting a lexux nx because bmw is going to cost you an arm and a leg to maintain after 4 years and it will lose more value than a lexus.

Yeah not everyone wants a x5 lol I won’t buy a suv bigger then a x1. Not because I can’t afford it but because I need more space then a car but want to retain a more car like driving experience. The x1 drives pretty stiff and nimble which makes it pretty fun to drive unlike lost larger SUV’s that feel like a boat. The turning radius is even better then a smaller car like a focus etc. there are plenty of reasons people would pick this over any larger suv.
