My buddy had a bad ass Montego back in the day - 80's. Black on black. Serious cam, head work, manifold and big carb. It would walk up hills on its on, just loping. Tag said Jr's Merc.

@413x398 ford/mercury/Lincoln had awesome cars/engines back then, too. I had a 72 Torino with a 351. I loved that car. The motor was bulletproof

That was actually a rare one year only Montego CHP car, highly collectible in the vintage police car hobby. The cops didn't like them because CHP ordered them without A/C to try saving a few bucks. Only a few still exist.

CHP had Mercury Montereys in 1970 -- it was the LAPD that had the Montegos (and were pretty much skipped over on 'Adam-12')

@@scotts.1414 I did! Several '70-'71 Montegos were used in GISS, or at least '70s with '71 grilles - there is a bit of an argument about that. These cars were also used a few times in the TV show 'Police Story'. Talk about a car that is extinct - I haven't seen a '70-'71 Montego 4 door sedan in decades.

@@realmaindrianpacethe Monterey’s were not a CHP favorite, especially if you compare it to the ‘69 Polara. The Mercurys had issues with motor mounts and wheels cracking. If I recall too with the LAPD Montegos; they were big block 429’s but with no power steering.

That one was probably a ex-LAPD unit, they ran them for one year only, ‘70 only. I think those had big block 429’s.

That pale-greige Datsun 510 wagon was a regular member of the show's repertory company of cars. I don't think they ever crashed it, either because stunt drivers preferred big Detroit iron for crash work or maybe it was someone on the production staff's personal car.
