Ha, I have the exact same model/trim/color combo. The J35 motor in this application can be compromised by the added weight of the 4th generation MDX; so the previous generation will feel a bit quicker (ZF9 notwithstanding). Overall, it’s the most comfortable MDX to date, and a nice place to be on long road trips.

Honda should swap the AC and Drive mode controls lol.. they put the ergonomic knob for less used drive mode. Otherthan that very nice car.. especially the interior is good

Good review. I think when you say this isn’t like a super sporty SUV, it’s because you are used to testing all sorts of performance vehicles. Most of us would probably find it to be like driving a 3 row sports car😂

I really like the MDX for a number of reasons, mainly that Acura still find ways to keep prices in check(an Explorer can cost more than this, despite being an inferior product). I love that they haven't forgotten the philosophy that made the 2nd-Gen to this current one so good, such as moderate size and good mix of equipment for the $$. I don't even mind the middling performance since the J35 V6 is so smooth and appropriate for this CUV

Why would an Explorer be inferior when it offers more power and more luxury? Also the new QX60 blows this thing away in every aspect...especially that quilted brown interior with brown leather everywhere.

@@joecool9739 have you been inside of an Explorer? And sure the 3.0L V6 has more power, but the overall experience in the Acura is vastly superior. The Acura handles better and has a better overall driving environment. Then there is the matter of value over 5 years, which the Ford will not hold at the rate of the Acura.

@@hellkitty1014 Sorry dude, all reviews point at the Explorer being a top end vehicle in every sense from driving dynamics to luxury to style The Explorer ST has rave reviews from everyone for its power, precision and handling The new Acura MDX is flying under the radar...nobody really cares about it and reviewers arent impressed by anything about it The only impressive vehicles to come out this year in the MDXs segment are the Grand Cherokee-L and QX60 In terms of press the only SUV that really riled people up was the new LX600 The MDX is stale and uninteresting

You can point out atleast 50 ford explorers a day which makes it not impressive to see when everybody even the cops have one. And you also failed to mention the resale value of the Ford compared to the Acura/Honda.. There is no comparison, in the next 5 years that explorer will not hold its value like the Acura. Just Facts.

Very nice SUV. I hope Acura knows what they are doing regarding pricing. I think it's to high to where a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes shopper will stay with their brand. On the other hand, Lexus & Cadillac need to be concerned. Very concerned.

Great review as always. I have this Mdx same paint but aspec package. I really enjoy this car. My only gripe about this vehicle is the road noise. It can be a little loud at times. Great car.

No getting around it Hondas and even Acuras have some road noise issues. Changing to a higher quality tire helps

51k for well equipped technology package is not bad, basically you can get MDX technology instead of Pilot Elite for about the same price. But once the new generation Pilot comes out, it’s probably going to be a better value compared to MDX, especially if it gets wireless carplay, bigger than 8-inch screen, and 10 speed auto.

I've had my 2022 MDX for about 2 months now and drive it alot early on just trying to get use to it. I put some miles on it real quick living in DFW area. My only complaint is the info screen should be touched screen. Having to use that touch pad is a serious driving distraction. Also, there's no hang up phone button on the steering wheel. I previously had a 2029 MDX technology package and it was nice but a lease. I wanted to buyout the lease but the dealership said the 2022 was only $50 more via financing, so I trade the lease in for the 2022 MDX.

Hmmm - I own a 2014 Acura MDX with the Tech package, which I love. My biggest takeaway from this is that if I update to a 2022 Acrua MDX with the Tech package, I'm going to lose a lot of features, which are now only on the Advanced package. Shame on you, Acura!!

Went into a test drive on this SUV this weekend and I got very disappointed. It's ultra noisy on the highway. And I got the one with double glass in the front. Otherwise the car is very good, super premium, precise and fun to drive. But again cabin noise was a deal breaker. Hope they get better on 2023

We used to have a Honda Pilot and it was super noisy too so Acura is not that much different

Road noise is a Honda trademark for some strange reason. I do believe the Advance model is abit quieter due to the uplevel ELS sound system having noise cancelation.

Nothing’s wrong with piano black. Wood grain is out of style. It’s more attractive to have a glossy black than a flat black. Audi has such a boring, bland look with hard plastic everywhere that rattles after a few years.

Look how dirty that piano gloss black plastic is and it's a brand new car. It's the worst decision any car manufacturer can make. It looks like crap and will always make your interiors look dirty. Micro scratches will make it even worse and the dash is covered in the stuff, even in high-traffic areas. Very gross

This isnt the best deal in luxury because an Acura MDX doesnt stack up to the luxury competition Its cheaper than the GV80, Aviator, GLE and X5 for a reason And its not as nice as the new 2022 QX60 either But at the same time its more expensive than better vehicles...the Mazda CX9, Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer and Hyundai Palisade So its not actually a luxury vehicle and cheaper cars are actually more luxurious and more powerful than it

Currently, a Kia Telluride SX Prestige costs more than this. The Mazda's powertrain and interior room are seriously behind this. The GLE and X5 costs $70K and still not have real leather interior with the features this model has.

@@hellkitty1014 The highest trim MDX is 68k The highest trim Telluride is 42k Mazda CX9 interior room is not behind this except maybe for cargo...but thats secondary to its beautiful sculpted body the CX9 has The Mazda CX9 looks better inside and out *AND* drives better...and its a 6 year old car Mazda is releasing a CX90 soon with a straight-six engine and hybrid power...that one will not be 6 years old The MDX is a negligible vehicle in both the luxury and non-luxury categories

Prior owner of brand new Gen 2 and Gen 3. I've been loyal to the brand in hopes that they would go back to their roots. Tired of waiting. Now I own a BMW and a M/B. A bit more expensive, but well worth it. This last MDX rendition is lame, lacks character, looks like a CX9 Mazda, horsepower is laughable, and to add insult to injury, you will find a brick wall at 115mph (governed). Acura/Honda is borrowing the same boring formula as Toyota/Lexus; build lame & slow highly reliable vehicles for people that matches the same characteristics! Nothing you can do about the people that buy your favorite brand?, so I moved on to brands that are exciting, have unique characteristics, power to spare, and pioneering technology. I downsized my SUV to a GLA45AMG (2of3 kids out of the house) + a M4CxD. 45AMR, a vehicle that has 382HP/354TQ out of a 4cyl turbo engine, 7speed DCT, AWD, with 0-60 ~4.3sec, and a top UNRESTRICTED speed of 168mph (with a chip). Probably will never see that, but it would be nice to know is there for those times I'm on I-70 with long straight roads with nothing around you. Yes, I topped off all my liter bikes' top speeds, so spare me the safety briefing. If you want a boring SUV, Acura/Lexus/Infinity is your brand, just make sure to use the right lane on the hwys, when not passing.
