Re the Griffey super collector: I personally do not get trying to corner the market on certain cards. It really reduces the supply for other collectors to obtain the card. I guess he can do what he wants and, although I collect Griffey cards, I’m sure this doesn’t affect me much because I am not trying to collect every Griffey card there ever was. If CGA needs funding they need to think about how much of the business they're going to for this round of funding. You either give away equity or pay interest. It's called business.

Another great Clearing the Bases, Mike. Very engaging! A lot to unpack. You hit the nail on the head with [fe]eBay. Go after them for HOW they charge their fees (on taxes and on levies, which I'm sure is illegal in most countries, yet they still get away with it!), but don't go after them because you promoted a listing and gave free postage to the buyer - that's on YOU, the seller! Regarding CGA: Again, spot on in your thoughts. Can't see how the owner of the business thinks that begging for money or orders will get him out of the s**t. People shouldn't be obliged to fund an owner that has terrible business sense. As ever, I'm getting heart palpitations with all those open tabs! Any more than a dozen, and I get anxiety. 😀

We can all complain about ebay fees and it won't change a thing. They are basically the Amazon of re-sellers and no one can compete with them. Besides, large auction houses are worse, they take fees from both sellers and buyers.

I don’t even know what to say about CGA…except I will not be considering them for grading lol. 2025 Topps? A much better design than 2024 in my opinion. How do these printing mistakes get to be more and more outrageous?? I am definitely glad I am not spending money on this stuff anymore. Their quality control is out of control. That collection that your friend went to see is AMAZING! Looking forward to your newsletter this week. Sounds like some more great stuff. In other news, booked a trip to Maine this summer. We will be in Southwest Harbor. First time to Maine.

Great content as usual. I hope you enjoyed being outside and doing a little snow blowing. 😊 It’s okay to ask for money, because if you don’t ask not likely to receive. Bummer that they’re not able to make their grading company survive when basically PSA has a monopoly. The new 2025 Topps design kind of reminds me of 1991 Upper Deck Football design, which I like. Always love finding cards that I misplaced. Don’t usually forget what cards I have.

I do collect one box of each series/product, but who is on it doesn't matter at all. I just like to see the changes over the years. Also, been saying this for years now, Fanatics is terrible in making mistakes.

I think the authenticity guarantee should be sure the buyer knows it is a reprint. At that price the buyer obviously doesn't know. They need to protect the buyer

The good news with the Panini points is I’ve gotten all the way up to 1800 points in place of a hit before and that’s well worth it. You don’t always get 250. Sometimes you get 500. Sometimes you get 1000 sometimes you get 1500 so long all the way up to 2500 I believeso yeah if you only get 250 points, it sucks to have to pay for shipping but anything else is a win.

I believe eBay now charges fees on shipping. This prevents sellers from circumventing fees by selling a $100.00 item for $1.00 and charging $100.00 for the shipping. Years ago (before they did this) I remember a seller that sold ink pens that retailed for about $10.00 for $1.00 each and he had tons. He was charging $2.50 for shipping so it was still a decent deal. However, someone bought 500 but didn't realize that his $500.00 purchase cost him $1,250.00 in shipping because the seller did not offer combined shipping. It was noted so he didn't really do anything wrong although it was a little shady. I'm not sure of the final outcome but it did teach me to read terms on anything very carefully. Exactly right but FYI, they have been charging fees on shipping for over 20 years. My account was established in 1999. At the beginning, some unscrupulous folks would charge 1 cent for the card and charge say 6 bucks for shipping and say no combined to try to get around paying fees. Went on a year or two then I think eBay caught on, so that’s why. Now what POs me is that they also charge fees on sales tax (eBay applies both their base fee AND their promoted fees on the ENTIRE transaction!!). doing that probably makes them millions per year.

@@jbhatts610 Wow, didn't know about the taxes. SO a $150.00 sale all inclusive only nets you about $120.00. All for a computer algorithm that just grabs money 24/7 365 days a year with little or no human intervention required. Talk about ROI. Amazing.

Well on a hundred buck sale Taxes 9 bucks (if buyer pays taxes), shipping 6 bucks, yes all fees are applied on 115$. Many transactions don’t have taxes if you ship to a vault. But yeah, basically your 12.5% fee goes closer to 15% and that’s if you don’t promote (which I do on many items). Still the best place to sell cards, but eBay is definitely taking their cut

That Jordan/Lebron reprint is also illegal. The images, logos, etc. are all someone else's property. I did TTM in the 80s and got some great stuff: Warren Spahn, Duke Snider, Stan Musial, Al Kaline, Andre Dawson, Alan Trammell, Goose Gossage, Lee Smith. I also got Willie Mays and Sandy Koufax signed by their sisters.....

Great run down! I don’t have a lot of free time around my job and my kids sports and other extra curricular stuff to be able to catch these stories so thanks for taking time to put this together! On a side note, have you ever made a video on strategies to sort cards? I’m recently getting back into collecting so I pulled out my cards from when I was kid which were sorted by year/brand/#. It’s a modest collection at best so nowhere near any complete sets. But my son and I are having fun doing ttm, but it’s hard to find out if I have multiple cards of the same person with this sorting. Long story short I just alphabetized all of them… it will work great while we’re ttm’ing but also has other drawbacks. Just looking for other ideas. Most videos on sorting are about how (what box, sleeving, etc). Maybe it’s a topic not that interesting for you to want to do but just curious if you’ve thought about it.

I think sorting your collection is different for everybody. I sort by era and sport first so modern baseball. Then break it into commons, stars and rookies, and parallels and inserts. That works for me.

😂😂😂 this Rick Ross is a clown. God I hate being in the position of defending eBay. Fees are 12.5% - looks like he also chose to promote the listing for 3%% should’ve chosen 2% (neither here nor there), AND he didn’t have to. You cannot take the benefit of a promoted listing, then complain when it sells!! Wasn’t that the goal?? And shipping label? DUUHHH, yeah you should be charging the customer so can’t see how you lost there. Bottom line, he’s free to go to shows, pay the table fees, his time and possible theft. Or, he can use eBay (what I do 😀). Are fees high, meh not really. It’s the safest platform with the most eyeballs

2025 topps gets a b- first impression. Dont like how the team name is kind of faded out and not sure why it needs to be sideways. Also dont like the ribbon running from top right to bottom left( no relation to baseball. Seems unnecessary). I like the white border, player name, and position on bottom.
