Hey friends! It's now 2023 and I'm sharing a NEW CARD MAKING SERIES on the channel. I'd love for you to follow along. You can find the first episode in the series here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJOuYmqJp5eJg9U In Episode 1 I cover how to find card designs in Cricut Design Space on desktop and in both apps. In Episode 2 I cover card kits, mats, how to change your blade, and we make our first card. In Episode 3 we'll add pens, markers and opaque pens (writing white on dark papers!). Then we'll move on to foil, embellishments, writing on the inside of the cards, envelopes, shaped cards, print then cut, photo cards and so much more. Hope you'll subscribe and I'll see you there! 💕

@@KimByers … oh, I’m getting the Maker 3, but I figure the concept is the same. The only thing that’s different is the maker uses flat card/mats rather than that little card mat/envelope. Would love more info on the materials you’re using and maybe an Amazon link. 💙
@KimByers3 жыл бұрын
@Razorgirl I'll be honest. It's a bit tougher on the larger Cricut machines to make the quick cards. There is no Maker card mat (with the small sleeve to hold the card). I'm hoping they're going to make one eventually. Everyone wants the card mat for the Explore and Maker. That said, you can absolutely make cards on it, and of course the Maker 3 makes soooooo many more things! Until then, I made a video showing how to make cards on the Maker and Explore. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHmnnpSrZZJ-apY Hope it helps and yay on getting a Maker 3!!! 🥰Oh and a few Amazon links in this video description.

Just got my Joy, specifically for making personalized Thank You cards to got into my eBay, Mercari, and Etsy sale packages. Was thinking you could also create a digital file, print it to a 4x6 photo paper, trim it down, and use that was an insert, maybe a repeating business logo or other repeating pattern.

Hey there David! The Joy is a great little machine and makes super fun cards, but a Maker or an Explore is going to be the better choice for Print Then Cut (on paper, sticker paper, vinyl). As for the Joy, if you're interested I'm in the middle of a Card Making Series here on the channel. kzbin.info/aero/PLYJAbsWmbUWZPbhDp-RMRDaRVfZScaYct Another ideas is Canva. You may already use it, but if not it's a great choice for designing thank you cards and you could set up multiple per sheet, then print what you needed. Use a paper trimmer to cut them down and pop them in your packages quickly. Thanks so much for crafting with me!
@DavidGridley Жыл бұрын
@@KimByers I actually bought the joy with the card making bundle specifically and am always checking out other tips and hacks. It was the card mat and how it worked that interested me. I did make my first card the other day to give to a neighbor and found the cut to be easy, printing inside took some planning and execution, but it turned out great! The hardest part for me was re-aligning the protective sheet on the card mat after I was done (no joke). I also own a Brother Scan N Cut and a Silhouette Portrait, both never used, LOL, beause I was scared of the blade settings and possibility of ruining a mat. I think the Joy may help cure my hesitation.

@KimByers3 жыл бұрын
Hey Eliza! Do you mean on the templates in Design Space? I haven't noticed that any in a set for one card are a different size. Sometimes I get my spacing off because my mat isn't pushed all the way to the edge, but I've not noticed a difference in the cut sizes. Hmmm.

@@KimByers I meant the alignment of the card at the to and bottom. When it cuts it it is closer to the top than bottom
@KimByers3 жыл бұрын
@@elizamaglanque8875 I did have that happen a few times when I first started making cards. Because the design is so compact, close to the top and the bottom, the slightest shift downward on the mat can cause it to cut close to the top. I put mine right on the line, and I make sure that my fold is firmly against the side. I hope your next one turns out perfect!

Great video! You said they don't want you to scale down the images for cards... Does that mean it won't allow you to? I'm wondering about cutting an image doe a panel on a card where I'll use another color layer behind it and attach them to the front.
@KimByers3 жыл бұрын
Hey Margaret Ann! They offer multiple sizes of each card so you don't have to resize. Once you start playing with the sizing of the predesigned card it's very easy to either cut off the mat/paper or Cricut Design Space will reject the cut. Could you help with what device your using, an if your using a mouse pad or keyboard. I’m a complete newbie an thank you so much for sharing .....

Good morning! I'm using a Mac Desktop for the videos. The iPad and iPhone apps are a little different. They do the same things, but options are in different locations. And I'm using a trackpad (same things as a mouse). Once you figure out where the functions are you'll be cranking out the fun cards! Here's a link to all my Cricut Joy videos: kzbin.info/aero/PLYJAbsWmbUWYQvlfCj2d203lfVxeSlVbv AND here's a link to all my Cricut Design Space videos. I just got my Cricut Joy this week and can't wait to use it. If I want to make my own card what can I use to create the slits in the corner? When I go to use one of the templates it goes straight to the make it instead of being able to customize it.

Hi Kim - when making my first 2 cards, I ran into the same problem. The cuts aren’t using the full size of the card. It’s as if the left margin isn’t set right. Any idea how to address this?
@KimByers Жыл бұрын
Hey Darlene! Sorry you're having trouble. Two things. 1. My best advice is to cut a piece of paper or cardstock the size of a card insert so you don't mess up anymore cards. Next, make sure that you're placing your card all the way in, even the smallest amount not pushed completely to the edge and at the upper line on the left side can throw an entire card off. It seems really simple, but I ruined several cards in the beginning. Now when I place my card in the mat, I tap it a bit on the left edge to make sure that it's all the way over and then I fold over the flap. 2. Make sure you have the correct card size chosen from images there are lots of sizes if you're using a desktop. Also, have you tried the Quick Start Joy Cards on the app? It's great and let's you make a ton more choices. Here's a look: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXzLaJichtmJmqc Thanks for crafting with me! 💕

Do you have to reconnect your Bluetooth after each project? I was doing something that took 3 cuts with 3 different colors. It was frustrating waiting to reconnect each time! Looks like it would stay connected until you turned it off!

Hey Dede! I’ve never had mine disconnect during a project. Does yours do that all the time? Or do you think maybe your Internet was glitching? If it continued I would contact Cricut support. They are very helpful. Thanks so much for watching! And I hope you make some beautiful cards! 💕

Hi Kim just found this video I’m having trouble my Cricut Joy is cutting the coroners to where they tear when I carefully put the liner sheet in. I am having to cut my cards a little wider so the corners do get cut to the edge of my cards. What am I doing wrong? Any help is much appreciated thank you. I’m enjoying your videos.
@KimByers Жыл бұрын
Hey Connie! So glad you're enjoying my videos. As for the corners, they are very close and I've done it myself. My best advice is to make sure that your card is pushed all the way over to the edge and the top line is as perfect as you can make it. I put mine in, pull it to the edge of the plastic cover and then tap it a few times at the seam to make it super snug before laying down the top cover. I know it doesn't sound like it would do much, but I've not messed up a card since I started getting the top and side lines perfect on the mat. Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting!

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I’m new to the Cricut world and have an air 2 on the way. Could I use those pre cut cards/inserts (instead of regular card stock) with the air 2?
@KimByers4 жыл бұрын
Hey Blair! Unfortunately there is no card mat for the Explore Air 2 so I've never tried them. The kits are already scored and the design is made to cut right up to the edge of the score. Now you have me interested... I'm going to have to try to figure that out and if I can make it work I'll create a video for it. Happy crafting and congrats on getting the Explore! It's a great machine!😍

Hey Stephanie! What do you mean? Insert slits are the same? Do you mean the insert card isn't fitting?
@stephanieduarte4118 Жыл бұрын
@@KimByers yes, insert card slits at the corners are not cutting appropriately
@KimByers Жыл бұрын
Not cutting or cutting a little off so that the insert doesn't work? If cutting, but not working with the insert, I've had a few Cricut designs have issues, but I've always corrected it one of two ways. Either my cardstock is not pushed all the way up into the card mat, and lined up at the top and bottom, the measurements are so small it really does matter. :) Or, I had to take my paper trimmer (or scissors) and shave a little off of the card insert. BUT, if it's that the machine is tearing or not cutting through the cardstock, that is a blade issue. It could be dull and needs to be replaced. A hack you can try is to take a piece of aluminum foil and ball it up then stab the Cricut Joy blade into the foil to sharpen the blade. It will elongate the life a bit. I hope this helps and you get to make your card!

Hi I have the cricut joy and I've tried making cards multiple times tried seeing if I was doing something wrong and I have not made 1 birthday card yet. The cricut keeps on ripping my card as it cuts the card
@KimByers3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nia! It could be two things. One, the blade is bad or has paper/fuzz wrapped around it. But since it’s new, that shouldn’t be it. Two, the paper is too thin and/or you’ve selected the wrong material in Cricut Design Space. If not either of those things I would contact the Cricut help desk. They are so nice and super helpful. Thanks for watching and I hope you figure it out quickly! 💕

Hey fluffs! Without being with you and looking at your app I'm not sure, BUT I personally would call the Cricut help desk. They are usually super helpful with tech questions. It could be that you need an update. Hope you figure it out soon so you can get back to making cards. Thanks for watching!!

Does the size of the pen matter? The card I want to make calls for 0.8 mm pens, but I only have 0.3 and 0.4 mm pens. Love your video. So user friendly!
@KimByers2 жыл бұрын
Hey Marie! So the pen tip matters only a little. The machine will draw it no matter what, just change it to the pen type you have. Just know that if you use a thinner pen than called for, it will be a thinner design when drawn. I always worry more about using a thicker pen than called for because if the lines are close together they will touch. I hope this helps and thanks so much for watching! 💕

Kimberly Lopez have you used your mat very much? I would think as it gets less sticky you might have to do more weeding, but it should do just as mine did for many cuts! I kept my pressure the way it was in DS.

Why do sometimes when I put it to the right size my corners are cut wrong and insert can’t fit corners

Hey Alex! Hmmmm. I've not had that issue before. I've had them cut off the paper, but not for the insert not to fit. And you're selecting the same size in Design Space that is on the card kit that you purchased? Hi Penny! The Joy cuts, but you have to use Cricut Design Space to upload your art, or use Cricut art, to make the cards. So basically there is no "scanning." As for stamped images, the Joy doesn't do embossing for a "stamped" look. Not sure if I'm answering your questions, but I'm here to help if I can. Thanks for watching!💕

My card keeps moving when it starts to cut. Do I need to tape it down? This is the 2nd card I’ve ruined. Bummer
@KimByers3 жыл бұрын
Hey! That is a serious bummer! 😬 So you've removed the clear protective cover that allows the front of the card to stick? If so, it must have lost its stickiness. Each mat last for 15 to 20 cards. I would grab another one. I've used the tape method before, the only problem is that removing the tape tends to tear the top layer of my paper and it no longer looks perfect. I've also folded a piece of tape and used it on the inside of the cover. That did work until I got a new mat. But be careful not to put the tape where your design will cut out. 💕 Thanks so much for watching and happy crafting!! 😊
