i was still a child when this was happening. its actually so painful and heartbreaking that i never got to see them live bc im too young (and in the US). finding the cardiacs changed everything for me. its a terrifying power they have, to make music like this, so much and for so long. i didnt know music could mess up my world like this. dang

Always happy to hear of younger people who've discovered them, had the good fortune to have move to London before they stopped playing. Even got to see him play with Sarah and nick as the sea nymphs at a pokey little pub in Camden.

I was hoping after watching this to work out how they do the constant vocal at the end...still don't know. What a song and what a band!
@gavinbuck81304 жыл бұрын
@@DrumsTheWord It was most likely done on backing track, towards the end of Dirty Boy it's very vocal backing track heavy. It can be done seemless loop forward loop backward, delay with long tailed reverb or even grain synthesis, given it was 2002 it was probably a looped backing track with the 2 female vocalists reinforcing it.
@BlueCrayon774 жыл бұрын
@@gavinbuck8130 In other viedos it's easier to see that the backing vocalists maintain it throughout by taking turns in drawing away from the mic mid note while the other is on mic. Take the breath off mic... get back on the note and fade themselves back towards the mic... then the othe vocalist can fade themselves away and go for their breath...etc
@BlueCrayon774 жыл бұрын
Have a watch of this vid. You can see more clearly what is going on.... especially with the left vocalist who turns her head away from the mic to fade herself out.... breathe and back in. The vocalist on the right favours the lean away from the mic! ha kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6GYi6KBh8lgntU

Wow. I don't know why I never watched this particular video before, but I'm fucking glad I watched it now. If I dare say so, I think this is the best Cardiacs concert recording I've seen to this day. Sheer, crimson-red, heart-bleeding emotion from start to finish. What an atmosphere. I mean just at look at them play Silvery or Signs, for instance. Makes my skin tingle with joy and awe. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the only video recording of them playing songs like Core and Day Is Gone? Can we get a DVD of this, pretty please? If only.

I saw them in (either) 1989, 1990 or 1991 at The Venue in New Cross. I keep all my ticket stubs but I don't have that one for some reason. I remember buying a tshirt. Flashes of the gig. That's it. I don't even Know the date. But I am SO glad I saw them. I know I'm in the minority but I'm less of a fan of the latter four piece days, Guns /Sing to God etc but I'd take any version of the band, with Tim, now. But that's not gonna happen. 💫 I think the music that was being created with Kavus would've been sensational.

Nice to have on KZbin. Almost the best line-up. I 'm annoyed by the backing track. This is too fake. Who's playing the keyboards? Where is Jo and Susan? Just my opinion.
@joechapman82086 жыл бұрын
They never wanted anyone to replace Bill Drake, and after that point the backing was always automated (which is why Bob's got headphones on, so that he can drum to the click track) except Dec '98 when Bill joined them as a special guest. All Cardiacs gigs after '91 were like this, although there were special gigs with ex-members such as percussionist Tim Quy, Sarah Smith and Dominic Luckman, and on at least one occasion Jon Poole played live keyboards as well as guitar. Jo Spratley only appeared briefly at a couple of gigs iirc. Not sure who Susan is: do you mean Sharron Fortnam? Nobody cared about the tapes in the gigs, trust me.
