This was Timmy's birthday on 3rd July 1993. The Alphabet Business Concern, not being too keen on parties and celebrations unless carefully planned and attended by the 'right people', decided that a concert should be held. So we all piled into the bus and headed north and landed in St Helens and a little place called 'The Citadel'. I was given a camera and was pointed towards a creaking dusty balcony in order to film and monitor the event. Here is part one with DVD EXTRA videos tagged onto the beginning. Get well, Timmy, we love you. The second delicious slice of this cake can be found here • Cardiacs Live at The S...

The Cardiacs. I don't understand really why some people don't "get" them. Well I do understand. I've been to hundreds of shows. Everything from Miles Davis to Gong to Hendrix to Dieter Mobius, to hundreds of obscure bands nobody has ever heard of. I'm not easily impressed. Four days after hearing about the Cardiacs they became my favorite rock band of all time. Its not just the incredible music... its everything. Swing, soul what ever you want to call it. Family. Humanity. Inspiration.

+doren garcia EXACTLY my sentiments! After hearing the Cardiacs for the first time three months ago, I haven't listened to much else since, trawling through their back catalog, Tims' solo stuff, Their amazing gigs. As a musician, Life really is very different for me after discovering Cardiacs. But HOW ON EARTH DID I MISS THEM? Tim is a genius. (and I'm in love with Sarah Cutts forevermore)

Cardiacs also quickly took over my entire world VERY shortly after discovering them. They became my all-time favorite band within days of listening to them. Before that, had you asked me who my favorite band was, I would only have been able to maybe narrow it down to a list of 10, tied for first place. I never thought I'd be able to definitively name an absolute favorite band if all-time. Then Cardiacs entered my world.

Lmao! During the "difficult bit" of Ideal the most cheerful mosh pit I've ever seen all but stops to observe the musicianship before them.

That bit at 8:46, has remarkable similarities to the refrain of Norwegian children's song "Huttetuttetei" by Alf Prøysen. Prøysen was known for borrowing melodies from older local Norwegian folk tunes, so it's not unthinkable that it might have a common point of origin with what's used here if you can trace it far enough. Tim did also most likely, early on, used bits and pieces inspired from Norwegian traditional music. Take for example the the pentatone-scales in the break after the opening verse of "A Balloon For Bertie's Party", or even clearer, that keyboard with cowbell break in "It's a Lovely Day". Both of those lines remind me strongly of the traditional Halling style as played on the Harding-fiddle.

This really brings back memories of the tremendous show that was Cardiacs back then. I wasn't at this gig but I can almost smell the dry ice beneath this corrupted video tape. Love it, what a wonderful piece of music history. XXX thanks so much for the upload, though I know that loyalty demands!

@@grimblegrumble it's a shame though init that a lot is bad mobile phone taken the sound it a bit of a mess.in all there years I wonder why they didn't have proper camera work.it costs money and I doubt they were rolling init they played for the love of.but I'm sure there were offers of fans in the know of sound engineering and had pro or semi pro work who would of paid for the privilege of filming and editing to distribute on there behalf .you have maresnest which is ok.not the greatest choice of there body of work.would of lover to see _ watch from early seaside on stage when dressed as mad going crazy across the board and to a proper visual of the garage concerts which I luv.better musicians by then and a lot of classics. just bought a couple s of t shirts as they were half price from website of tim pic with the alphabet business concern on with red yellow on black hadn't seen them .don't no if any left.
