@@Chaosking5445 yes with royal magical library activating the field spell is a token and then using the effect is another now combine that with chicken game and pseudo space with 3 chicken games and 3 pseudo spaces and 1 library you get 10 draws in total (assuming you start with the library and draw into the field spells)

That's why Ash Blossom, Nibiru, the Turtle Kaiju and Impermanence are so popular, because they are amazing at shutting down the opponent when going second while not being dead draws when going first. Chicken game is great when going first but a dead card when going second, which is a problem in current Yu-Gi-Oh; is still good don't get me wrong, BUT is not broken anymore because it has to compete with many other field spells.

If you dropped Maxx "C" to unlimited in the current TCG format, you'd see problems. OCG has evolved around Maxx "C", TCG has evolved around the lack. Maxx "C" is meta warpingly powerful, if you couldn't tell from the difference in OCG and TCG. Though it looks like the Tear meta has shifted that, seeing as how both players expect to get through the entirety of their decks anyways. Which is an entirely different problem.

I remember a recent game on Master Duel where my opponent used a Chicken Game stun deck. Hilariously, they forgot that the player with the lowest lifepoints takes no damage, because they tried to attack me to death when I was lower. Because of that I was able to rebuild my board (I think I was playing Abyss Actors at the time) and take my opponent out without giving them a chance to even be protected by Chicken Game.

This card art specifically references something japanese gangs used to do to prove their worth against one another. They would basically have two vehicles going at full speed towards a cliff, and the one who hit the breaks last won.

One other thing that wasn't mentioned when you explained chaining Chicken Games together is that you can end that by playing another field spell so that your opponent doesn't even have the opportunity to use the effect if they wanted to.

Chicken Game could come back to 1. Not sure if anyone was playing in the format(s) before this card got banned, but it only became a problem when Monarch FTK was a thing. Other than that, it was just upstart with decent damage prevention. (It was great for its time though because Terraforming was at 3.)

4:55 The highest recognized Spell Speed is 3, which is held by only Countertrap cards. As Yu-Gi-Oh progressed with optimization and problem solving text, Normal Spells, Quick Play Spells and Traps, and Countertraps started just being Spell Speed 1, 2 and 3 cards. So when presented with cards whose text gave them an immunity to even Countertraps, the community took the Spell Speed system they had grown accustomed to using and simply added a 4 to include those kinds of cards.

It's a spell that draws 1. Together with Psuedo Space, it's an extra six "Draw 1" spell for every FTK, Exodia, Combo deck, "summon 6 negates" deck, etc.

Chicken game was originally broken in a deck called monarch ftk which killed using life equalizer and magical explosion and it was one of the most consistent ftks of all time but I love the deck and have played it in cross banlist tournaments and no banlist tournaments and stuff and I don't think I've ever had anyone actually be upset by it because it's such a funny deck

Chicken Game wouldn't really do anything. Unlike when it was banned, there are a lot of handtraps that you want to fit in your deck and cards like Chicken Game and Upstart Goblin can't get your handtraps if you're going 2nd.

Why couldn't Chicken Game get your hand traps if you're going second? Sure, your opponent may have a board but you may also have a Lightning Storm or a Raigeki. Chicken Game is unrespondable, they can't stop you from using it and using it may give you the board breaker you needed.

I thought they banned the card due to the drawing of the cards , because there is a field spell (I forget the name) that copies the effect of a field spell in the graveyard. If Chicken Game were at 3 copies, then you play 3 copies of the aforementioned field spell, you just got a possible extra 6 draws (provided you have the LP), then on top of that you have your 1 copy of terraforming, and you have a lot of draws in your deck.

Yes, it's a ton of draws technically, but at the cost of putting a bunch of dogshit cards in your deck. All it really enables are some inconsistent ftks that just auto lose the second anything at all goes wrong for them.

Had a funny 'Chicken Game' moment in Master Duel. Opponent was running a Trickstar Burn Deck and basically took me down to 100 lp. Then they decided to use Chicken Game to draw another card to start a combo that would burn me to 0... but nothing happened as my lp were lower. Then they attack and attack and attack... nothing. End turn. I brick and figure "they'll pop the card on their turn" then finish me off. But NO. They drew again. Another chain of burns that whiffed, followed by direct attacks resulting in 0 damage. We both were on xbox so they could message me, and they did with "how are you not dead yet." They had no clue didn't they. I eventually manage to get Topologic Zeroboros out, and on their turn they do a link summon that triggers its "banish all cards from the field" effect, taking out chicken game. On my following turn Zeroboros returns with enough attack to win the game for me. I reply "because it ain't over 'till it's over. It's over now." Then they accuse me of cheating, never realizing that they lost by THEIR use of Chicken Game.

mtg has a very similar card in Street Wraith. "Discard this card. Pay 2 life. Draw a card". It occasionally sees play in mass-reanimator strategies where it's just another body to dump on the field but it's not as ubiquitous as this card or Upstart Goblin seem to be in yu-gi-oh. Part of the reason I think is that mtg has a subtle opportunity cost with the mulligan rule. In yugioh if you don't like your starting hand then tough tortellini. But mtg you can put back your starting hand and draw a new one with some penalty (some iteration of "keep one fewer card" that keeps changing) Consequently having Street Wraith in your opening hand is one fewer piece of information to help you decide whether the hand is worth keeping.

This card wouldn't be a *balance* problem if unbanned, tbh. It's unbanned along with a lot of "draw one" spells in the OCG and that format hasn't really suffered for it. These cards don't help a lot of modern archetypes much, since most decks are relying on one card that launches their plays instead of inconsistent two or three card combos they're looking to draw their deck to find. Many decks would rather run a hand trap or going second staple in its place because those boost your consistency far more by improving your ability to play after losing the die roll, especially with the high cieling on modern end boards. Most decks would scoff at chicken game or upstart goblins nowadays when cards like pot of prosperity allow you to dig so far into your deck for the one card you need with little downside. These cards pose more of a problem as pieces of deep draw ftk decks (which are all incredibly bad, but very frustrating to lose to) and decks trying to dig for powerful, unsearchable floodgates and prevent your opponent from ever playing the game, a stratagy which is similarly unfun but also inconsistent. Because these cards mostly see 0 play outside of these spell/trap heavy decks I have no reason to believe the fact that the OCG has Maxx "c" and we don't actually has any effect on the viability of these cards. I'd personally keep them banned because the decks that use the cards tend to be kind of unhealthy. But then coming off would probably have no effect on the metagame, especially not in this current environment.

I honestly think cards like this and upstart wouldn't see play in the meta if they were at 3, tbh. Most decks nowadays play more than 40 cards and these wouldn't really help. Of course any deck that could run these probably would but, still I think people treat these cards as instant includes when they probably would be a lot more situational. I think the only case where a card like this would be a real problem is strategies like exodia that really only care about 5 of their cards.

True for almost everything other than the first point. The 40 card thing is universally applicable to all cards in existence simply because of math. In master duel (the best digital version of yugioh) chicken game is unlimited and it sees basically no play outside exodia. Even upstart goblin doesn't see much play despite being unlimited. It sees more play than chicken game but not nearly as much as one would expect.

The same TCG players you're talking about are already playing Master Duel, and no one is running Chicken Game outside of non-meta decks like Endymion, or even gimmick casual decks like Exodia. I don't see how the TCG banlist being different from Master Duel's banlist would make this card that barely sees play somehow a huge problem in paper format. Upstart Goblin is at 3 in the OCG and MD too, and it's very definitely not in every single deck in either one. The age of the "37 card deck" is in the past. Feel like CG and Upstart can come back to 3 with no problems. Modern archetypes have better in-engine consistency tools (the link-1 that searches the field spell, that searches anything from the archetype). They only get played in Exodia, and decks that spam spells (Edymion, sometimes Sky Strikers), which are mid at best.This is even on MD, where they're both at 3.

I feel like an errata could instead be a "must" pay the 1000LP instead of a "can" and that each option may only be chosen once per turn. So if you play three, you'd be shooting yourself in the foot because you have to destroy one and give the opponent more life. There can be some cases where playing 2 can be good and fun, but primarily it ensures that you'll at least get one more activate of it on your turn too as the opponents best mode is draw, destroy, also you just got to -2000 them by the time the two cards are removed. Could be fun and weird

The Thing is you would have Pseudo Space, so 6 copies with 1 upstart you can play a 33 cards ftk deck which is quite consistent and on top you have draw cards like into the void, its just a card that promotes ftk's

Chicken Game and Upstart are at 3 in Master Duel and they are barely played outside of cheesey lose to 1 or 2 hand trap combo decks. YGO players have brain rot. A card can have a bad win rate, barely be played in a competitive setting but they want it banned lmao.

In Master Duel Chicken Game is used for Exodia OTKs. Together Magical Library and a field spell that copies a field spell from the graveyard. I liked seeing the combo. The spell speed 4 is key to the card, otherwise Baroness de Fluer and a ton of other negates would make this card very short lifed

@Cardmarket - Yu-Gi-Oh! : Modern yugioh if you have the exact ammount left to pay the cost, you can legaly activated the card but you lose before your opponent is allowed to chain a card, in both TCG and OCG, the diffrence is only in goat format TCG, you cannot activated a card if you have the exact amount left to pay, even with mandatory cost to keep it on the field.

I think it should be unbanned. Same with itv and upstart. If they “enable degenerate strategies”, ban those cards instead. Hitting these cards just makes the degenerate decks less consistent but they can still do the same shit if they draw the right hand. It doesn’t fix the ACTUAL problem when banning these cards. The pseudo space include is much worse with no, or even 1 like in MD, terraforming. Imagine drawing 1-2 pseudo space with no chicken games in your hand? useless cards.

The problem with Chicken Game is that most of the decks it would be good in are solitaire decks. Watching my opponent activate +-0 draw effects for 15 minutes so they can fire their janky 40% winrate 5 unsearchables FTK is not really fun. Since YGO has no rotation these 'free' draw 1 cards must be kept in check.

another target for "recycle" i pay 600lp i shuffle chickengame into my deck then i play pysdospace i now have 6 copys of chicken game (psydo copys any feild spell) and conbined with metaverse and terorforming and now i can draw 6 cards if i have 3 chicken game and 3 psydo and if i play soul servent i can discard 2 spells to draw another 2 and if they where witchcrafter spells i get them back and recycle is broken so i can loop 6 draws as meany times as i draw chicken game or psydospace and my lp dosent matter becuse i draw exoida for example and i win. oh and magical libary gains 2 counters every spell use and i draw 2 cards from magic libary with 2 counters lmao. 7:52 im prity shure they changed how that works now you would atempt to activate chicken game and with less than 1klp you would die.

Is it safe to unban? Sure, it is. It's a simple turbo card albeit a lot more versatility due to it being a field spell. Should it be unbanned? Probably, not. Life equalizer + blasting the ruins is virtually 2 card exodia. Idk if you would still need to play wall of revealing light to make the equalizer work but even if you have to it’s still 3 card exodia instead of 5 card exodia.

I really think the game has moved past the "Drawing a single card is OP, and if you draw 2 cards your opponent night as well surrender," phase of the game. I just don't see how, with decks consisting mostly of searchers and being so ridiculously consistent, we can't just say "Okay, Cyber Dragons, you need to speed up a bit and be more consistent. Have 3 Upstart Goblins and go nuts."

I sometimes wonder if Chicken Game would still be considered banworthy if instead of paying 1000 LP your opponent gains 1000 LP making it basically a reusable two-sided Upstart Goblin. It would somewhat curb FTKs because it makes it harder to burn the opponent, but the draw is still really good and consistent.

In master duel I was running chicken game in an exodia ftk, In combination with psuedo space and terraforming. Essentially cutting my deck down to a 33 card deck. Combined with royal magical library and all the typical draw cards, eg upstart goblin. Was super consistent, but very boring so gave it up

Decks these time are way too consistent to play cards like upstart goblin or chicken game + I do not want my deck to be over 40 cards just to play these cards. It can be unbanned and upstart should be unlimited. They absolutly see zero play in the ocg or master duel.

I genuinely think that cards that make your deck smaller are kinda bad now that there's a real opportunity cost in not playing good cards and them also not being handtraps when you go second There's a reason that ocg players aren't doing the hoban small deck strat right now

Yep. While it's important to have a small consistent deck, too much of it and your opponent can screw you over because they can simply do more.

(disclaimer I don't play Yugioh) The answer is a functional reprint that fixes the below 1k LP, by perhaps adding a clause that when a player is below like 2,500 it self destructs. Their solution probably make more sense. Honestly restricted to one seems fine.

The problem with Chicken Game and Upstart Goblin is that if you draw them going 2nd it's basicly a Handtrap you're NOT drawing. That's why they fell off in the meta. Yes you're playing a 38 or 39 card deck but you need Handtraps during your opponents turn and not when they pass over to you.

Tbh I think the weird 800 and 1000 LP situation is enough reason to ban the card. Other arguments are way too subjective (trying to debate consistency and "degeneracy" are just too subjective when the point of the banlist is to limit the card pool in the context of a competitive ruleset). But the fact that this card affects gameplay so much and can get into a state where the card sticks around until someone has removal makes the card broken. Honestly it's the sort of thing you would expect to have been caught during testing

That's not really an issue. The card has no protection on its own, no relevant deck is going to struggle removing a single spell that does nothing from the board. Nevermind that this situation where both players are at extremely low life basically never happens in modern yugioh.

My argument is that by the card's own rules it can disable its own killswitch, rendering it permanent until someone uses removal, and I think that breaks the card _in a game design sense_ , not a balance one. If it had a tweak where it automatically destroys itself when neither player cannot pay the cost, that would be enough to fix the issue

@@NinjaLobsterStudios How is it an issue? It's not like it's the only way to remove the card, by a long shot. In terms of game design, the only issue with the card is that it's a free cycle. You perhaps might be annoyed that in terms of _aesthetics_ it'd be nicer if the card sticked around until someone decided to pay the cost to blow it up or something, but I can't see the issue from a _game design_ perspective.

I use chicken game every single day with EXODIA and obliterate all my opponents. I got Platin rank with exodia I'm now Gold 1 again but nearly Platin AGAIN. :) I think chicken game is overpowered but I hope it doesn't get banned and I hope Card of Demise doesn't get banned. Also Pseudo Space is just Chicken Game. So i Basically have 6. :))

Played a true draco player in master duel that loved their chicken game and had massive advantage against me. Long story short, they never destroyed it, and it ended up winnin me the game cause i ripped into a few power cards (branded fusion after about 4 draws)😆 bring it back both people can use it

The music in these videos is so poorly implemented, sometimes it's so loud you can barely hear the conversation, other times it's barely audible and pointless. It's very jarring when it just starts playing really loud and interupts the flow of the video. I wish it was consistently quiet and subtle or not there at all, also no need for there to be multiple different tracks, just play one background song throughout the video and it'll be fine
