Nice video as always! Some cards I would add that I always find to be very influential whenever they appear: Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, Butcher of Malakir, Martyr's Bond, etc. If you get out a Grave Pact, have creatures/tokens to spare, and instant speed sac outlets, then your opponents pretty much can't play creatures. These kinds of cards MUST be answered, I find them to often be better than one time board wipes because they stick around and allow you to control enemy boards for prolonged periods of time, and they even get around indestructible creatures! They even have political and defensive applications, "Don't attack me or blow up my creatures unless you want to lose your stuff too." "Hey player B, attack player C for me if you don't want me to blow up your board!". These are devious cards! Run enchantment removal!

No problem, it will patch you up in 1 turn and will charge its lazor faster than you can say Wayfarer's Bauble. - Marrow-Gnawer / Krenko, Mob boss: Leave them alone 1 turn and you will be swarmed with a horde and pray they don't have something to get them untapped. - Akroma's Memorial: What is worse than 1 Akroma? a crap ton of Akromas that are stronger than Akroma! - Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker: Combo or not this asshole just works if there are decent creatures. - Grave Pact / Dictate of Erebos / Martyr's Bond / Butcher of Malakir: It would be a shame that i had a crap ton of disposable creatures on my side. - Storm Crow / Crow Storm: You know why. - Ashnod's Altar / Phyrexian Altar: Sac outlet for mana? Kinda like Wound Reflection and Havoc Festival it just puts people on a timer, except I think this card can be much more dangerous. The fact that he's indestructible and usually an enchantment makes him difficult to deal with. Also since he's only going to allow you to effectively kill one player at a time, I've seen people let him live until they're the ones being swung at which by then can be too late.

Really? I have. I've got two friends that are super stubborn, especially when it gets tense. So here comes a situation where this one dude makes a copy of the other one's Consecrated Sphynx. Next turn goes off and both of them draw (we determined draw order) and then very quickly things got out of hand because neither denied the "you may" aspect of the card, so they kept exponentially-drawing cards with each instance of them drawing cards, until neither of them had cards. Best part was, the one that instigated this shit had an Elixir of Immortality on-hand and was able to shuffle his graveyard into his library after his turn ended; he had baited the other guy into thinking they'd both go down. It was the greatest play I've ever seen with Consecrated Sphynx.

I have two decks that although not very strong their commanders have quite the impact once they are on board. One is Admiral Beckett Brass that i almost always cast when im capable of stealing something on the spot and once she is on the board everyone is trying to find ways to kill her or prevent the dmg or the attack by making deals and such. The fact that the deck is not strong is also on purpose so that it does not draw too much hate :P The second one is Thantis the warweaver (the jund spider from a previous commander set that forces attacks for those who have no idea). In this deck i have other cheaper ways to force attacks as well and since the deck is full with deathtouch creatures it makes it much more likely that my opponents will be attacking each other instead of me. Thantis (along with the other effects that force attacks) make a huge impact on the board cause it makes people unable to keep their utility/ not-meant-for-combat creatures safe and makes them attack each other unless they want their big creatures to be killed by 2cmc spiders that i can get back anyway through Isareth, Soul of Innistrad, Palace Siege, Phyrexian Reclamation etc. Again not particularly strong as deck but really fun to see how much it changes the game's course.

Avoiding a lot of these is one of the reason my favorite deck (Teneb, the Harvester) can be so successful. Instead of single, big, scary cards, it just likes to run incremental advantage cards that synergize really well and can even go infinite if I get the right ones out. Probably the two cards that people don't realize they have to deal with right away are *Recycle* and *Null* *Profusion* They see the downsides and think it's no big deal, and then I have one turn where I draw 15 cards and play a Reliquary Tower or Thought Vessel.

Nyxbloom Ancient - "it produces three times as much of that mana instead." I checked the ruling at gatherer.com and you're right, but I'm still really surprised. "Instead" normally indicates a replacement effect and I would have assumed that multiple contradictory or redundant replacement effects would go off only the one with the newest timestamp, rather than being cumulative. I feel this ruling pushes it from "overpowered" to "broken." Add in Candelabra of Tawnos and/or Magus of the Candelabra and you've already got a real mess on your hands anyway!

I'd have to say Narset, Enlightened Master and Narset, Parter of Veils. Enlightened Master allows you to play normally hard to play cards such as Omniscience for free on top of being hexproof herself which makes her that much more difficult to deal with. Parter of Veils is a Leovold style Planeswalker that can end a game with teferi's puzzle box or windfall style effects.
@YetAnotherScrub4 жыл бұрын
A similar card that is just as impactful as Lurking Predators is Mind's Dilation. It's more random since it depends on your opponent's top cards and only affects one spell per player per turn, but it doesn't just hit creatures, but any non-land permanent. You can counter anything that your opponent plays if their next card is a counterspell, or you can maybe find something even stronger. You sometimes exile some of your opponents combo pieces and just make it very hard for them to win. It's chaotic and very powerful which is one of my favourite kinds of card.
@YetAnotherScrub4 жыл бұрын
I was also surprised to see Sire of Insanity over Jin-Gitaxias. I guess you didn't want to fill the list with Praetors, and also that one turn each player has after it comes down does give much more counterplay opportunity. However the asymmetry (with the controlling player drawing 7 extra cards whilst all opponents have to discard everything) makes this arguably even stronger if it does stick around for a full turn cycle.
@puffin-onehandedgamer11644 жыл бұрын
Nyxbloom ancient + rite of replication = 1 land taps for 729 mana.. or if it's a bounce land that taps for 2, 1458 mana :) it's great in something like a temur deck, you tap Gruul Turf for Red and Green, you get 729 of each and you cast fireball and burn your opponents to death 10 times over. pretty fun. yes it is overkill, but it would still be fun. so you hit them for 1455 damage (1 red to cast and 2 mana to kick it twice = 1455 left).

A lot of people seem to be confusing combo pieces for "cards that dominate the game". Ashnod' Altar is a combo piece. Without certain other cards, it sits on the field looking ugly and occasionally turns one of your own creatures into 2 mana. You could go a whole game using Ashnod's to pay equip costs--not exactly game changing. Yes, there are a lot of other cards that pair well with Ashnod's, but in the end Ashnod's is just a rock with benefits. Vorinclex, Omniscience, etc., on the other hand, outright screws the rest of the table if unanswered. I get the confusion, though. My high synergy cards (Cathars' Crusade, OG Gisela, Ashnod's, Zulaport Cutthroat, etc.) draw a lot of heat, seems like that "proves" they are powerful. But that doesn't mean they are going to "dominate" the game. The definition needs to stay narrow, or Mitch will be making these CTDTG vids until the end of time.

By the end of the game, everyone had a copy of the Fan Bearer as its copies had persisted and survived and populated continually throughout the game well after it had died off; we even made a Gravity Falls joke about them being photocopies that were progressively getting worse. Then, by end-game, someone won with a 32/32 Fan Bearer copy (like the 20th copy, thus proving our joke wrong) with double-strike and lifelink. It was the greatest thing in the multiverse.

Venser the Sojourner can be super busted if you have a deck that has tons of ETBs, or just to goof up your opponents any time you cast a spell

You mentioned the white and green praetor, but not the blue? Jin-Gitaxias is a huge swing in tempo. Suddenly everyone is playing off the top of their deck and your drawing a fresh 7 each turn

I've never had Omniscience hit the board where I didn't win in the same turn, in any format...EDH, Modern, Legacy...it doesn't matter. Omniscience's best friends are Laboratory Maniac and Jace, Wielder of Mysteries.

I use Ruric Thar in my Mayael deck and if you happen to have Gisela out then it’s 12 damage per spell. Pretty nuts

you didn't mention Enter the infinite with Omniscience? that's like a guaranteed instant win combo, especially if you throw down bound // determined or maybe veil of summer earlier in the turn to lure out counterspells for cheap

How I deal with Nyxbloom Ancient or Omniscience: Krosan Grip, especially since Omniscience gets stopped cold when Grip goes on the stack, due to Split Second.

Except Omniscience doesn't have an activated ability.
@JustSoggyBread4 жыл бұрын
@@zackzack9341 Of course. But since you can't respond to Krosan Grip, your opponent really only gets to cast that one spell, which kind of ruins the point of an Omniscience.

I finally got a nyxbloom ancient off in a game with a growing rites of itlimoc and i was taping for 100s of mana with a beast whisper and elemental bond, I was just casting my entire freaking Library. It was nuts

Reanimating Nyxbloom for cheap is hilariously good value. Put it in your Kenrith deck and let me tell you, having triple mana for spells or his abilities is real nice.

Could have just said "Praetors" instead of having them as separate entries. All of them, not sure on the red at least, are nasty when they come out and need dealing with.

I used to use Sire of Insanity in my Rakdos deck purely to deal with blue decks. I absolutely despised any counterspell, and in my mind back then (as well as the local meta), if anyone used counterspells, they completely deserved getting Sire'd.
