My Dad retired out of Travis. Vacaville was my old stompin' grounds. So sad that you didn't pause for a moment to smell the golden grasslands and hike those hills. Solid advice, sir. Take a day off now and then while you are younger and enjoy the journey!

My dad retired out of Travis AFB in 1972. He volunteered for the Army Air Corps in 1942 and stayed for 30 years. My fond memory of Vacaville was following the produce trucks filled with freshly harvested onions. They smelled like hamburgers and always made me hungry. Vanden or Armijo?

@@mmeyers111 Oh the ONIONS! The smell of spring! My parents bought a convenience store, a Qwik Stop just across the freeway from the vegetable plant. And when the onions were being dried, it smelled like the Vacaville Fiesta Days were about to start!!!

Glad to hear the FO say about the hard days. I'm getting close on my commercial but I'm feeling burnt. I'm an older guy and I made it my full time job to train.... but 3 flights a day, and its been hot and bumpy (today was 93 deg gusting 35) and I just need a few days to decompress. I want to get done fast.... but want to enjoy the journey.

Not uncommon. USAF has (or did back in the '80s when I was at Vance AFB; not sure if they still do this) what was known as FAIPs (First Assignment Instructor Pilots). After UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training) graduation, they go through PIT (Pilot Instructor Training) at Randolph AFB, TX and then go back to where they completed UPT and instruct usually for a couple of years before moving on to other aircraft.
