In this episode of The Debrief, former 22 SAS Trooper Big Phil Campion speaks to David Atkin.
First introduced to the idea of a service life with a stint in the Air Cadets, David Atkin pursued a career with the RAF Regiment. Embarking on his first tour to Afghanistan in 2010, David suffered a career ending, and life changing spinal injury. Years of surgery and rehabilitation has followed, but David has gone on to achieve success in the Invictus Games, and is now working at the Military Preparation College for Training (MPCT) where he is guiding the next generation of potential armed forces recruits, and instilling values that will see students excel in their chosen careers.
Find out more about the MPCT here: mpct.co.uk/

You are right Phil in your thoughts, in what you reckon was going on, with how that stupid 5 Miler of death crap came about,....Scouse Taylor was motivating the trainee Gunners, who had been on live firing, "sections in attack" work I think,....fairly demanding in itself and after they had finished those live fire/maneouvre ranges, they were "tabbing" straight back to a pick up point, I think. It was motivation pure & simple. Keep troops energised, no rest from the range work, get them organised and move out. Instilling a bit of urgency, simulating a need for getting out of the location after "contact" as it were, keeping a scenario going. Keep the enthusiasm and effort going and section teamwork. Scouse is a good guy, very professional and a great motivator and excellent espirit de Corps and instills those attributes in the Gunners he was responsible for and training. A very fit professional soldier in the Reg't and a man of immense experience and respect from all his peers and subordinates in the Corps. He served in the Reg't for a long time and deployed many times. He served on 2 Field Sqn, (as it's known), the parachute sqn, he served with the Parachute Reg't on a Regiment exchange Sgt within their organisation. The guy who filmed it didn't appear to have much sense, and put a training session filmed onto the internet!! I don't think Scouse or the other training staff would have known and, the part that is filmed is only when they had finished all the range work and doesn't include it, and an out of context "speech"....The film would not have been intentionally put out from any authority from training wing etc. It's caused what most know today and is a piss take for all! Everyone jumping on the band wagon, total b.......!!

Nice but dim here. Are there different rules for someone with a knackered spine, bench pressing and rowing? I couldn’t imagine anything worse for the back. 🤷‍♂️
