SecureNinjaTV hi, love the channel. I just had a couple questions. I’m about to graduate with a business degree but I’m very interested in getting a career in cyber security. I don’t have much experience just a little bit of experimentation on my own. Firstly, i was looking into a Masters degree and I saw a lot of them didn’t require coding (which i do not know) do you think knowing code is a must if i decide to go into this field and if so how should I go about doing it. Secondly, what type of education do you think would be the best, i’m open to anything that get’s me the best education.

@pashapasta717810 жыл бұрын
Nothing you see in movies or on TV is applicable. All of that is a pathetic joke. A lot of people never bother to get into info sec because of the amount that needs to be learned to get anywhere. Those that do make it, don't look at the study as work, it is fun, play time, something we do because we love it. Best piece of wisdom I ever heard in reference to all of this is "Don't learn to hack, hack to learn."

been about a year since I've posted, I've gotten ccna, mcsa and degree in information systems. currently a sysadmin for a school. all I can say is that nothing prepares you for real life experiences lol. knees deep in server shit and everyone expects you to solve everything lol. once you got everything going smooth then its laid back position to have. If I were to hire someone now I'd want someone well rounded know about networking, servers, printers, handle any dns issues and is very organized.

Ok, so I hope to get some advice from you guys. I am currently at an impasse between information systems and information security. Next semester I have to pick one and go that route. When I was in the military I worked as a radio operator and something always went wrong. I love being the guy to fix it and troubleshoot. That is where my passions lie. Which degree and concentration could I best apply that application to fix problems? I would be greatful to any informative information from you guys and ladies. Thank you.
@SecureNinjaTV8 жыл бұрын
+Eliuth Hmm, I would say information security because once you're in the world of hacker training you'll have to learn to both break AND fix things. ***** I don't know of any legit schools that offer degrees in "cyber security". What you want to major in for a security career is computer science. Most CS degrees require CS electives, many of which involve networking, security, and cryptography if you choose the right school. Some even offer "paths" or "specializations" which give sets of courses for things like security, software engineering, etc.

It is not about hardware! It is about learning ICT, practicing & overcoming obstacles. Maybe you wanna start with this: hackaday.com/2015/09/05/orange-is-the-new-15-pi/ coupled with this: www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/issues/ Don't rush your learning, take it slow but sure. Once done you can start learning to become a hacker, otherwise you'd become what they call a Script Kiddy(person claiming to be a hacker but dunno nothing other than taking other people source code and compiling and using it, even if it breaks he does not know how to fix it). Reward yourself with this book once you finished learning: it-ebooks.info/book/2624/ Good luck, remember do not hurt others be ETHICAL.

3 years late, I know, and I'm not a professional or anything (yet), but while igrewold is correct, I believe most people in cyber security at least know their way around Kali Linux and just Unix/Linux in general. This isn't hardware since it's an OS, but your computer should be able to at least handle either dual boot or a virtual machine to run Kali Linux assuming you want to primarily run windows. So a decent amount of RAM would be good, and the better the processor the better, however you don't really have to spend a whole lot. You can make almost anything work.
