How hard would it be for someone like me who doesn’t have IT experience to get my foot into the Cybersecurity career. Recently caught my wife cheating so I divorced her and now I’m fired up for a new career, could I finish a boot camp or cert and get working within 6 months? I don’t have any duties except to my dog and working. The rest of my hours I plan on spending learning and doing what I need. Is this feasible?

@@erko78 sorry to hear that brother but yes you can. My cousin passed his CCNA cert exam 3 years ago, no background or college experience, and he works for Microsoft now (he even survived the layoffs). I’m studying right now and am getting COMPTIA certs for my career path and I suggest you either go with CompTIA certs or a CCNA course to get your foot in the door.

Hey I’ve got some really great news to share with you, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on a cross and resurrected on the third day so you may all have eternal life. If you believe and repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Him as you would a parachute jumping off a plane at 25000 feet up in the air, He will give you eternal life in heaven as a free gift and I promise you, He will change your life forever as He did mine. He is the ONLY way to heaven and He loves you all. Please think deeply about this with urgency because this is your eternal life and soul, you don’t know when you could die, meaning you could die at any moment, so please consider this with all your heart. If anyone tells you that Jesus isn’t the only way, they are lying to you and they don’t care about your future.

@jacobmyers5936

At this point, the number of unfilled cybersecurity jobs is so great that we don’t need to even begin worrying about AI replacing them all. Secondly, unless and until AI gets vastly better than it seems it will be in the foreseeable future, we are still going to need humans making the tough decisions, weighing pros and cons of responses, building secure architectures, etc.

Cyber security is not an “entry level” career. Unless you did a cyber security internship during college, it’s going to be really hard to get a job if you have no prior IT experience. Companies rarely take on people with 0 experience in cyber sec. It’s a career in which you grow into from either networking or IT.

Stop the cap. Look at cyber security entry roles job listings. The min wage ones accept no exp and will teach you on the job. Entey level base salary 65k in nz. You don't even need a degree for cs. Ask chat gbt. This is just to be put on the top of the application list. Coming from it background or a fancy college. As most companies will have everyone required ie programmers, Java ppl, cyber security etc so if you have a issue outside of your field your team will help you vs you can become a jack of all trades and know how to do all their roles ofc you'd be first pick and demanding half a mill.

Very valuable video. I tried the Coursera IBM course and it looks like they are asking for fees after 7 days of registering.

Yes, if you want the certificate, that’s true. If you don’t you can just audit the course for free (although, they don’t make it easy to find that option, admittedly)

Curious about the multitude of individuals online offering free guidance and the resources guiding others on this path. If this career path indeed offers well-paid positions in high demand, why are there so many individuals helping others attain it? While they assert the need for more talent, it's natural to question their motivations. People usually don't help without a reason. Why are they selling this dream? I'm unsure; I would appreciate any insights. What am I missing?
@jeffcrume
@jeffcrume Жыл бұрын
You are right to be skeptical. Cybersecurity is hot and there are lots of openings so some people will be sincerely out there to help get more people qualified to fill these positions and some will just be opportunities who smell money where they see a need. Use your best judgement and look for references

Just try your hands on every technology , work for a few days or learn about it ( job market, salaries, and your interest) and then once you've familiar then make a choice . A piece of advice , Just don't be demotivated because your peers are into the hot domains like software engineering or ML and you're good to go... All the best with whichever choice you make!!

I have a cyber degree. MS in IT and project management. CCNA, Sec+, CYSA+ but most positions want a security clearance. Difficult to get in.

Actually, I’ve spent my entire career of 40 years without ever needing a security clearance. These are important in some government jobs but are not required in the private sector

Sir my son is doing Btech CSIT ( cybersecurity) . He wants to do masters in cybersecurity online from usa good university. What do you suggest ?
@jeffcrume
@jeffcrume Жыл бұрын
Good for your son for wanting to pursue a career in cybersecurity! There are many good programs. Too many for me to list, in fact. I haven’t taken them online so I can’t speak to which ones are well suited for that or not, thought. I teach at North Carolina State University, so I’ll put in a good word for them, but there are plenty of good schools in the US and even in the state of North Carolina

What if you have a bsc Mathematics? Is it viable to do a masters in Cybersecurity?

That will depend on how much IT knowledge you have but, potentially, yes, that could work

how can i get a job if they require certifications . and those certifications require job experience in the first place?
@jeffcrume
@jeffcrume Жыл бұрын
Not all certs require experience. Internships are a good way to start for some on the experience side and boot camps and other specialized training can offer education that can help you gain entry level certs

It depends on which one of the carts you are talking about and what job you are trying to apply for. Certainly, a CISSP can be very helpful, for example.

This is very helpful, but I am a little confused about the credentials... You required experience to get the credentials but you need the creds to get a job in the cyber security field?
@jeffcrume
@jeffcrume Жыл бұрын
Some of the more advanced creds require experience but entry level carts do not. Start with the latter and advance to the former

Glad I came across this, Jeff. I also sat the CISSP, long ago-250 questions-4 hours. It has since expired. Have MS\Information Assurance, now Cybersecurity at U. Dallas, but am not in that field right now. When you get a chance please, what do suggest as a path to transition in that direction?
@jeffcrume
@jeffcrume Жыл бұрын
If you passed the CISSP exam at some point then you clearly had the knowledge to work in the field. Some jobs will require this but some won’t. You might look for something that doesn’t and build up your experience base again and get up to date on the latest trends. The good news is that there are many different paths you could take. I only really know the one I took and that will definitely not be typical for the vast majority
