No - it really depends on the career path you choose to take with economics. Ben talks more about this in the full interview on Careers Out There.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I will definitely watch the video. I like business. I really just want to be successful. My parents work really hard and want me to pursue a good career in order to not have to struggle like they have. I want to help them live a good life after I'm done. I know it's a process and it takes hard work, but I am willing to do it. Accounting has my attention. I just need to gather enough info to be as prepared as possible in order to be the best at what I do.

I was wanting to do a business or economics course at university. I was wondering what jobs those could lead and what grades I would need to get into the correct course (I'm from the uk and there doesn't seem to many courses or jobs relating to this over here, can you help?)

David Cartmill In the full version of the interview on the CareersOutThere website, we talk about some different careers paths for economics degrees. As for what grades you need to take certain classes, that would depend on your school. I lived in London for 1/2 a year and while I didn't study economics there, I'm sure there are economics courses in the UK as well as careers for economics majors. Good luck!

Hi Fatoki. Yes, statistics is a great background for an economics degree.

Econ major as well, one of biggest goals is to own a capital firm

If you want something that complements your Econ major (instead of just something else you're interested in), statistics or mathematics are great minors-especially if you plan to go to grad school (it's very math-heavy once you get past the basic and intermediate Econ classes)

Hey Jose - don't get too overwhelmed with that "rest of my life" line of thinking. You of course don't want to waste time on the wrong path, but if something turns out not be right, you can change careers. There's always the chance that your interests will be different in 10, 15 years...and you'll want to shake things up. But keep doing your research so you can make the most educated decision possible. Don't miss our accounting career video with Jeff Elliott.

I know! I'm leaning more towards economics, I'm also looking into accounting. Man, it's tough selecting a career path to follow for the rest of my life!

First of all i would like to address how perfectly this economist explained things which is a rare sight for how most interviews run with people stutturing too much or giving useless info or using a big boy vocabulary to just look smart on tv Second of all im a grade 10 student who lives in Saudi Arabia, im a very good biochemistry student and an even more excellent student when it comes to Economics Social studies History and English, i self studied the law last summer to learn to become a lawyer but too late learned that the laws of my country are different from others for the only lawyers here study religion instead of politics and law for the law here is passed by religious and islamic things. So next thing i took up was economics which i very much enjoy and am excellent on. So im not sure if i ahould just aim to get into an economic studying university or continue biochemisty?

Hi, my name is Priscilla, I'm from Brazil and I'm ending my Economics graduation this year, but I've thinking in do a Master is Actuarial Mathematics in Austria (to learn German too). I work as research, however I am planning now change to the labor market. So, my query is, doing a Msc. in Actuarial Mathematic is a good idea?

What would be a good minor to pair with an Econ major? I'm thinking PoliSci or English.

Hi Akshay - science and math often use similar mind-sets but you'll probably want to have some math classes behind you when applying to econ programs. Once you have a master's in economics, your undergrad would be less important.
